About the property

Atascadero House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

This house is located in Atascadero area of San Miguel. The map seems to show that it is located there, but this listing does not appear in the Atascadero area listings. I am having troubles getting the area location changed by VRBO but IT IS in the lovely, elevated, Atascadero area of San Miguel. Also, VRBO show that it is in downtown, but it is in Atascadero on a beautiful and quiet street.

Beautiful San Miguel House - It is in beautiful Atascadero surrounded by gorgeous houses in one of the most desired part of San Miguel. Fully Handicapped equipped. Lovely 3 bed House with a Pool + Casita + Garage. There are no steps in this house and it is located on a flat street.

This house is TRULY HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE and is probably the most comfortable house in San Miguel. It has plush comfortable furniture and all the beds are KING SIZE. This house was designed and made to accommodate my husband who was an amputee in a wheelchair. ALL doors are extra wide with ample turn around space for a wheelchair. All the gardens are wheelchair accessible. There is a ramp for entry way , a ramp to all the gardens, pool, bedrooms, living room, media room, garage, bathrooms, kitchen, utility room and guest house. The ground level garden is accessible as are all other parts of the home except the roof top garden and the guest house bathroom. There are NO STEPS (except to the rooftop garden). This is very rare in Mexico.

If you do not need handicapped housing, you would never know the difference except that the house is extra spacious for your enjoyment and roominess of the house.

The kitchen is very spacious and fully equipped with new dishes, good pots and pans, a new cook range (full size) new microwave. This kitch is probably equipped better than you have at home.

There is a spacious dining room with glass top table and chairs that seat eight, and has a glass wall displaying a beautiful plant filled atrium and a waterfall. The china cabinet is very large and can be used to serve a buffet. For large parties tables and chairs are on the veranda as well as the rooftop garden. The house also has more table and chairs in the pool house which many people enjoy hosting luncheons. You will never lack for entertaining space as this house can be a party house.

This charming casa has the perfect setting to relax. The house is surrounded by high walls for your privacy. There is a closed circuit TV for viewing when the doorbell rings. There is a wet bar with wine rack. Utility room with extra large washer and dryer with iron and ironing board. Media room with a flat screen TV and cable. There is a DVD player in the room with built in seating around the perimeter. High speed WI-FI Internet and Magic Jack for free calls back to the USA and Canada. Land line for free San Miguel local calls. Garage with electric door opener. Two waterfall fountains, one by the pool and one inside private atrium by the dining room. SAFE TO DRINK WATER! Water purification system through out the house! Or, if you prefer, there is also bottled water. Three fireplaces, one in MB. Ceiling fans throughout. Traditional and eclectic artwork and statues. Gourmet Kitchen with coffee maker, blender and microwave, gas oven, convection oven, electric oven and microwave. Dimmer switches in all rooms. Expensive china and crystal for your enjoyment. Beautiful linens and down comforters from Neiman's and Macy's. Unlike so many houses in SMA, this house has real LPG heat for the winter.

The master bedroom is huge with a sun room attached. It has a king size bed with en suite bathroom. This beautiful master bedroom has two sitting areas, in front of the fireplace and in the sun room insuring your privacy and comfort. From the sun room you can overlook the garden and the pool. This is really some kind of master bedroom and has electric mattress bed warmers for those chilly nights in San Miguel plus the down comforters and pillows.

The guest bedroom in the main house is also oversized and has en suite bathroom. It has king sized bed and the same beautiful linens, down pillows, down comforter and electric mattress bed warmer. The bathroom is oversized also, with plenty of space for getting dressed.

The detached Casita (guesthouse) comes with a KING SIZED BED, living room / eating area combination, full bathroom, full kitchen with coffee maker and microwave, veranda with table and chairs and lots of seating, eclectic art, ceiling fans and fireplace. This charming smaller house is great for your guests as it is completely furnished where your guests can have and do their own thing while they are visiting you. It has livingroom/diningroom combination, fully equipped kitchen with cook range, coffee maker, fridge, and a bedroom and of course, the same beautiful linens, bed warmer, down comforter, down pillows and best of all, another luxurious king size bed.

The house comes with maid, five days a week, four hours a day, speaks English, and she will treat you like royalty. The best maid in San Miguel. Great cook. Montse is a cut above the maids in San Miguel as she is fluent in English, uses a computer, is a fantastic cook, has a great personality, and will add so much enjoyment to your stay as she will share recipes with you and show you how she cooks in true Mexican style. She can cook for you and your guests, do a dinner party for you, set the table, serve and clean up from your party. All you have to do is arrive. Montse is a former school teacher and is very well educated. She will add so much to your stay by helping you in every way possible.

This house has a water purification system and even still, I buy the five gallon bottles of water for cooking and drinking. Also for your information it is about a ten minute walk downhill to town and and a three dollar taxi ride. This house is in a very quiet area where most of the houses are owned and lived in by the owners. You will feel that you have blended right in upon your arrival.

Upon your arrival, you will find a surprise that has been made just for you. Guess what it might be? You will like it, I promise.

About Carol Hunt

I live in San Miguel part of the year. They say Florida is where you go to die and San Miguel is where you go to live. I have small well behaved dogs that travel with me. If you have the same, you are welcome to bring them along. No biters please.

Carol Hunt purchased this house in 2005

Why Carol Hunt chose Arcos de San Miguel

Why choose my house? Many houses in Mexico are not comfortable. This one is truly comfortable. I have gone to great lengths to be sure that this is a home and not just a house.

What makes this house unique

This house is a truly fully handicapped house with extra wide doors and ramps. You may enjoy the gardens while using a wheelchair. The bathrooms are extra large and you can turn your wheelchair around in them. Even the bathmats in the bathrooms are painted on the floor to accommodate a wheelchair. If you are not handicapped, you will enjoy the spacious areas unknown to most Mexico houses. All the rooms in the main house are extra large, including the kitchen, laundry room and the bathrooms.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have stayed in many houses in SMA. Don't even think about staying anywhere else but here! Most comfortable house in all of SMA. And trust me, none of the other houses are comfortable.

Beautiful and gracious colonial hacienda!!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay here. Montse, the housekeeper was marvelous, spoke fluent english, and was attentive to our every need. The house is large, very comfortable, and the courtyard with pool is beautifully maintained by Luiz the gardener. We found the location an easy and safe walk to the town center and if you don't feel capable for the uphill walk back to the house, taxis are plentiful and only 40 pesos!

A beautiful home with all the amenities… and more

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I so enjoyed our stay in this lovely home in the Atascadero neighborhood of San Miguel. The house is beyond comfortable…spacious, nicely appointed, three fireplaces and extra heaters for chilly evenings, plus the ultimate special touch of electric mattress pad warmers on every bed. Everything you need in your home-away-from-home has been considered. What a delight!

The owner, Carol, is an absolute pleasure to work with. It is obvious that she genuinely cares about the people renting her home and treats them as her guests, not her tenants. And the housekeeper, Judith, is Carol’s on-site representative, making sure you have everything you need. She is also a fantastic cook and speaks very good English.

The Atascadero neighborhood is quiet and lovely to walk around. It’s only a 20-minute walk (downhill) into town. We also walked back up the hill most days – it’s a good way to work off the wonderful food in San Miguel.

This is a pet-friendly home that is wonderful for dogs. Ours spent hours happily lounging in the garden and there are great places to walk them in the neighborhood. However, if you are not a dog-person, don’t worry. The home is spotless, so you’d never know they were there.

The house, casita, gardens and roof deck are all nicely appointed. This is definitely “our home” the next time we visit San Miguel.

Luxurious Peace and Beauty in Gorgeous San Miguel

  • 5 of 5

We were the luckiest travelers on the planet to live in this splendid property! Three fountains splashing, a garden filled with lovingly groomed plants, a rooftop balcony, enormous rooms filled with comfort and light, even a pool to add more charm, terrific beds (with bed warmers, a must in winter), and for two writers, enough space to work privately and productively made it ideal. And then there was Judith, the superb housekeeper who cheerfully produced fabulous meals for us and treated us as her esteemed guests. Carol, the owner, responded to all requests instantly. We can hardly wait to return for an extended stay. Wish it could be forever!

Puerto Vallarta

Beautiful Home in a Quiet Neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and two other couples, all of whom live in Puerto Vallarta, decided to leave the heat and humidity behind this summer to spend a month living in this beautiful home in the Atascadero area of San Miguel de Allende.

From my very first communications with the owner, Carol, she was a delight to work with. Carol always responded promptly to any questions I had and she was very thorough with whatever information I requested.

This is a beautiful, very spacious and well-appointed home, with two bedrooms in the main house and a full casita across the lovely garden. It also has a rooftop deck with a large palapa, where we enjoyed having breakfast on some mornings. This house was very comfortable for 3 adult couples! We spent quite a bit of time out at the covered table in the garden, where the flowers and trees make for a lovely environment in which to relax.

Judith, the housekeeper, was truly wonderful! She was always smiling, happy and willing to do whatever it took to make our stay more comfortable. And what a fabulous cook she is! We had two dinner parties that she prepared meals for and everyone was quite impressed with her food!

Since we drove from Puerto Vallarta, we appreciated having a large garage for our car. And, while Carol supplied us with a list of trusted taxi services, with 6 people, we preferred driving into town, even though parking is very challenging.

The house is fairly close to Soriana, a large market, and to Liverpool, a nice department store, which made getting groceries and other items handy.

Unless you are an avid hiker, you will likely not want to walk into town from this location. The house is up a number of hills and the cobblestone streets are seriously hard to walk on. Until getting close to town, there are no sidewalks. If you do walk, it takes about 20 minutes. But, like everyone mentions, taxis are inexpensive and easy to find in town. And, you are able to call them to come to the house and they are there within 10 minutes.

Right now the house next door is being renovated, so the workers start at 8 am, and there is a group of dogs on the street that start barking around that time every morning as well, but none of these things were big detractors.

We were quite happy with our stay in this home and we recommend it highly!

We loved our stay at your home in San Miguel.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at your home in SM. Judith was a doll and is a world class cook. She made us home made mole that was scrumptious and chiles rellenos with a filling half fruit and half meat that I had never had before and loved ! I showed her how to make Caldo de Medula. Your home is very gracious and comfortable. All of us loved our stay and hope to return pronto.

SMA vacation

  • 5 of 5

The home is especially great because of it's one level, size, and the layout. It is clean, private and well mantained. It is roomy, comfortable and beautifully decorated. It is also very well secured. The location is quite, but very convenient for exploring the town. After staying in SMA for 7 years straight, I keep coming back to this house because it feels like "home".The owner is delightful, and now we consider her like a family member. Judith greets us upon arrival and insures we understand how everything works, and how to communicate with us in case we need anything. Her friendly presence is a delight and everything done with a smile. She runs the house and insures you have any and all comforts met. Her husband, Miguel is also at your fingertips for all your needs such as transporation to the grocery store, doctor, town, and days trips to the many surrounding activities. Not just convenient, but much more affordalbe than hiring someone else in SMA and such a pleasure to be around. We always want to take them both home with us when we leave.Judith also cleans, cooks, washes and irons our clothes. She is always willing to accommodate our every need, and in turn we love compensating her for all the extra things she is willing to do for us. We have had a number of guests visit intermittently during our time, and they were all overwhelmed by the house, staff, and decor.

Car: not necessary

San Miguel de Allende is a city that manages to be both quaint and cosmopolitan at the same time. Once an important stop on the silver route between Zacatecas and Mexico City, its historic center is filled with well-preserved buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries. With its narrow cobblestone streets, leafy courtyards, fine architectural details and sumptuous interiors, San Miguel de Allende is arguably the prettiest town in Mexico.

In 2008 UNESCO recognized San Miguel de Allende and the neighboring Sanctuary of Jesus de Atotonilco as World Heritage of Humanity sites, citing the town's religious and civil architecture as a demonstration of the evolution of different trends and styles, from Baroque to late 19th century Neo-Gothic.

Located in Guanajuato state, 265 km (120 miles) northeast of Mexico City and 96 km (60 miles) from the state capital, Guanajuato city, San Miguel is located within Mexico's hilly central highlands. San Miguel de Allende has no international airport so visitors usually fly into either the Leon/Bajio airport or the Mexico City airport and then take a bus. This is not a major drawback and may in fact add to the city's charm: the sound of an airplane coming in for a landing never disrupts the pealing of church bells, plus the effort required to get here makes it all the more enjoyable.

Walking is undoubtedly the best way to explore San Miguel. A car can be more of a hindrance than a help in town, though it can be useful for day trips to the nearby cities of Guanajuato, Dolores Hidalgo or Queretaro. When your feet get tired, hop on the sightseeing trolley that departs from the tourism office on the north side of the Jardín Principal. After a tour of the main points of interest, it will take you to the Mirador, a lookout point where you'll be able to have a panoramic view of the city.

There is a substantial expat community in San Miguel, so it's easy to find services in English and restaurants cater to the Americans, Canadians and Europeans who flock here. It is still very much a Mexican town, however, where locals cheerily co-exist with the foreigners who visit or call this city home.

San Miguel is a preferred destination of art lovers. Whether you're an aspiring or accomplished artist, or just prefer to admire the creations of others, you'll be happy here. Studio openings, courses and workshops form a vital part of the thriving arts scene. Galleries, boutiques and shops selling a wide range of art and handicrafts are plentiful so it won't be hard to find souvenirs to take home with you.

San Miguel de Allende has an air of tranquility about it, belying the fact that there is always something happening. This is the perfect city for an extended stay. Take a Spanish course or some art classes and make yourself at home. It is safe to walk around day and night and the climate is pleasant year-round.

Discover San Miguel and its treasures:

San Miguel de Allende is famous for its intense cultural and artistic life, as well as for its striking architecture which has inherited a great deal of the pre-Hispanic culture, without putting aside its roots. Its stunning landscape of mountains, canyons, valleys and trails will fascinate you. Discover its many music, fashion, film and religious festivals. Its cuisine is rich in flavor and prepared based on a fusion of modern and traditional recipes of Mexican cuisine. You will be able to enjoy small cafes, or ancient restored colonial mansions.

Allow yourself to be caressed by San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel is the ultimate destination for a good rest, everything here has been designed for your complete satisfaction and comfort.

Like most Mexican towns, San Miguel de Allende has a main square that is a lively hub of activity. Unlike most Mexican towns, instead of being called the zocalo or Plaza de Armas, in San Miguel the main square is called el Jardin Principal. Jardin, which means 'garden' is a fitting name for this square which is full of carefully trimmed laurel trees and other greenery. Plentiful benches invite you to have a seat and watch the people go by. A kiosk in the center of the Jardin provides a space for live music performances. This is the meeting place for expats and Mexicans alike, and the perfect spot to while an afternoon away, or spend an evening enjoying live music and the animated social life of this colonial town.

The Jardin is surrounded by remarkable colonial buildings, and traffic is closed to all but the north side of the square. The municipal government office is located to the north. On September 17, 1810, the First Council of Independent Mexico took place in this building, with independence leaders Hidalgo and Allende presiding. There is a tourist information office here where you can get a free map of the city and information about current events. To the east and west there are buildings with high arcades. You'll find cafes and restaurants, along with vendors set up in the shade.
