First off, this is my mountain home - not a vacation rental. As such, I welcome you to my home as a valued guest, and will do all I can to help you have a wonderful stay. I find it difficult to decide in the winter whether to sit on the sofa and read a book and look out at the stunning scenery from the nearly floor to ceiling picture windows, step off the back porch to cross-country ski, snow-shoe, or put on boots and walk over to the nearby ski lifts. This meadow location is perfect for a relaxing, inspiring getaway. (South Lake Tahoe and Minden, Nevada are just a 45 minute drive away for those who want the more active evenings.)
Exposed pine wood throughout, open architecture, roomy at approximately 1450 square feet, Lost Cabin is one of Kirkwood's treasured properties. This meadow-front property is your perfect snow vacation getaway. Ideal for children and adults alike complete with a cabinet full of family games. Additional photos available upon request.
Base level is a two car garage, porch, and mud room. Middle floor contains the master bedroom with large windows, natural maple framed queen bed with pillow top mattress, and a generous sized master bath with jacuzzi bath tub and two sinks. Smart Television with DVD/VCR/Netflix/HBO/Amazon Prime/ and cable television. Guest bedroom has two twin beds, dresser, large window. Separate bathroom with shower. The top level contains a small balcony overlooking the ski mountain, small 1/2 bath, full kitchen generously stocked with amenities and herbs, large dining table for 6 or more, opening out into the family room area with a gas stove, 40' high def television with HD digital cable, roku, netflix, DVDs, hi speed wi-fi internet, Crate and Barrel sectional, full sleeper sofa, , and an upholstered chaise lounge (also good for sleeping - you will fight over this!). Raised ceilings and oversized windows reaching almost wall to wall and floor to ceiling give stunning views of the meadow and Red Cliffs mountain.
A note regarding pets: I do allow some dogs to come up with their families. But in order to protect the condo for all guests, I do have specific requirements. Dogs may not be left alone, unless crate trained and crated. Avalanche control can be quite frightening for dogs, and so this is a hard and fast rule. Dogs must be well groomed, up to date on vaccinations, on flea control, and kept off of furniture. This is not the right condo for heavy shedders. I thank you for cooperating such that I can continue to welcome entire families - not just the two legged ones!
Summer activities are endless - on site mountain biking, hiking, swimming, and disc golf. Kirkwood, Caples and Silver Lakes are just a short five minute drive away, as are many other adventures. Avoid the crowds of South Lake Tahoe and enjoy nature at its best!
I am a retired school teacher, with both children off to college and living their own lives. I'm a passionate skier, hiker, nature lover. I come to Kirkwood to play, relax, enjoy the splendor, and breathe. I think of my renters as my personal guests, and do all that I can to make them feel welcome and comfortable. Also as I love animals and do foster puppies , I welcome owners with dogs (provided they meet criteria as outlined above) .
Sharon purchased this condo in 1999
Lost Cabin provides the balance of the best location and best designed property in Kirkwood. When my children were younger, we found ourselves only skiing at Kirkwood. Found it consistantly had the best snow, was the closest location, the safest mountain, well maintained, and amazing terrain. We still feel this way! Avoid the crowds and traffic of other Sierra Nevada resorts and come to Kirkwood!
Perfect location - set back from the main drive and mountain so most of the snow grooming noise that can be so sleep depriving at night is avoided. Stunning views of the meadow. And yet still a very short walk to the lifts. (less than five minutes) Also direct shuttle access to lifts at the top of the entrance to Lost Cabin. Open, spacious architecture give more of a home feel than a small ski condo.
We had such a fantastic stay over MLK weekend. The tri-level house is comfortable and nicely decorated. You can tell that it is Sharon's family vacation home, as it was nicely decorated with family memories. The two bedrooms were perfectly sized for my family of four. The top level with the lounge, dining and kitchen was a lot larger than I thought. The photos really don't do it justice. It was a large living space for us all to comfortably spend time together without feeling on top of each other. The massive couch was sleep inducing (I may have fallen asleep on it one night watching tv) and the kitchen had everything that we needed for all of our meals. The heat came from the floor which I loved and the biggest bonus was a private garage attached to the house.
The townhouse was a short walk to chairlift 5 & 6, in between Meadowstone & The meadows. I think I have stayed at absolutely every accommodation option at Kirkwood and this was by far my favorite. We will definitely be back if Sharon will have us!
Kirkwood ski resort is s hidden gem - great skiing and no lift lines (even on the busy New Year's weekend). Lost Cabin is extremely nice and ideally located at the base lodge. Keep in mind that there's no grocery store nearby, so bring up what you need (the Base Lodge General Store has limited selection, suffers from out-of-stocks on key items, and is expensive). We had a great time a loved the accommodations.
The descriptions on VRBO are spot on. Great condo and well apportioned. The attached garage is so convenient. Sharon is great to work with. Thanks for being dog friendly. The mudroom is perfect for those transitions. There are a lot of steep stairs, and the living room is at the top level, but that's what gives a great view. Will definitely come again.
Four of us stayed during Christmas week 2014, and enjoyed the modern mountain feel and the spaciousness of the condo. We enjoyed the vast expanse of glass windows for viewing the meadow behind. It has a huge garage and plenty of living space. I was impressed by the well equipped kitchen with everything needed to prepare a traditional Christmas dinner. Best of all was being able to bring our dog. It is very close to the lifts and Sharon was most helpful throughout the entire process of booking and promptly answering our questions. We had no issues with the condo. Because this is essentially 3 levels, you need to be OK with stairs.
Disc golfing course in summer. Unlimited options of hiking to beautiful uncrowded meadows and glacier lakes.
