COME TO THE COAST, WHERE ITS NICE AND COOL !
'Tide Watch' is the destination for anyone who wants to experience the true flavor of Maine!
A lovingly restored Ocean Summer Farmhouse . Experience the best that a Maine vacation has to offer. Open the door of a wonderful home which has all the modern amenities, but maintains the cozy feel of a farmhouse from long ago. The hardwood floors and comfortable furniture invite you to curl up with a good book or sit on the spacious deck overlooking the ocean with a million dollar view.
Step into a sun room to have your morning coffee or take away the chill when the sun goes down.
The old fashioned sunlit kitchen has been beautifully renovated, to accommodate even the most accomplished chef, with hand tiled island, complete with a 5 burner gas stove, oven and dishwasher. While dinner simmers, retrieve your perfectly chilled wine and beverages from the wine cooler, to sit and watch the spectacular sunsets from the deck or NEW SCREENED ROOM. Adjacent to the kitchen is a large dining room with seating for six and is complete with a chandelier.
First floor also has a spacious master bedroom with full bathroom and shower, flat screen TV and its own private entrance.
Relax in the living room with a collection of lighthouses and watch a movie on the 52” HD TV with your own “home theater”!
Upstairs has a full bath with tub and shower. Four bedrooms appointed with comfortable beds, wonderful blankets and bed linens. Enjoy watching TV from both the queen bedrooms. Throw open the windows and listen to the crashing surf as it lulls you to sleep at night.
During the day, with the South West exposure, you and your family will enjoy the sun all day, while using the spacious grounds for rousing games of volleyball, badminton, croquet or just a old fashioned game of catch!
Listen to the wave’s crash on your own private beach. Descend the stairs and kayak, throw a Frisbee at low tide, or look for sea glass that has been washed ashore. Look for the seals basking in the sun on Gull Rock a few hundred yards from shore. As the eagles and sea gulls soar above, it is easy to feel as if you have moved to a different place in time……
In any season, on a clear night with over 1000 ft of shore front, and the Milky Way overhead, you will find yourself gazing at the sky, searching for the stars and planets you remembered as a child. Looking at the lighthouse beacon on one of the distant islands, you may find yourself wishing on a falling star.
Visitors here are only 40 minutes away from the West Quoody Head Lighthouse located in Lubec where guests can explore the lighthouse or hike the wonderful ocean trail.
The house is 1 1/2 hours from Bangor, 1½ hours from Bar Harbor, 4 hours from Portland, 5 1/2 hours from Boston, 11 hours from New York City, 45 minutes from Eastport, 40 minutes from Campobello Island, and 1 hour 15 minutes from St. Stephen, New Brunswick Canada.
Activities in the area include hiking trails at the Roque Bluffs State Park, along with its quarter mile oceanfront sandy beach and freshwater wading pond, which is stocked annually with brook trout and brown trout and can be fished for successfully right from shore. Close by are two golf courses in Roque Bluffs and in Jonesboro, guided sea kayaking trips with a company in Machias, Atlantic Puffin tours and spectacular coastal hiking trails out of Cutler harbor, antiquing in local fishing villages, viewing ancient Indian petrogyphs along the shoreline in nearby Machiasport, deep sea fishing tours from Eastport and ocean schooner sightseeing trips on the Sylvia Beal out of Eastport harbor and much more.
We are only 15 minutes from Machias with its shopping, restaurants, University pool and fitness center. There are also many featured hikes nearby including Cutler's Bold Coast and Western Head Trails as well as Great Wass Island's Nature Conservancy trails.
Tide Watch is a place to escape the stress and worries of daily life and imagine when times were simpler.
Welcome to our home away from home. You are visiting a 100 year old farm house owned by 'The Watts Family' of Roque Bluffs until we purchased it in Dec 2006. Please relax, reflect, and enjoy your stay. The house has been completely refurbished inside, so please take care of her. Sincerely, Mike, Lisa, and Michael Tingley, Miami, Fla
Lisa Tingley purchased this house in 2006
We visited the the area and fell in Love with the towns beauty and the wonderful people ! The View, its all about THE View AND THE BEACH!
Watching the seals frolic on Gull rock , the kids playing pirates and hunters on the boulders and sand flats, and of course just sitting in the Adirondack chairs at the waters edge and sipping whatever!!
Thank-you for opening up this truly beautiful home for others
to enjoy. The View is spectacular, so peaceful and serene.
Your home is so warm and inviting with all the comforts of
home. Walking the Beach was always an adventure for the
children to play on the rocks and swim when the tide was out.
Every-thing was perfect !
We had so much fun in the yard and on the water. Kayaking at high tide to the nearby islands or up the Englishman River, and exploring the rocks and flats at low tide. The huge lawn was perfect for frisbee and football or playing fetch with the pups. And what a view beyond!
Comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen (we made great use of that wine fridge) made for cozy nights on the coast.
Privacy! We spent days on the beach and would see next to no one.
This privacy was respected by Captain Mike, while he was still available whenever we needed him. And he is full of great local suggestions! A big hit of his was steering us towards Mother Shuckers for truly the freshest lobster we have ever had. They were in the waters just outside our door mere hours before they were on our dinner plates.
A great grill on the deck made it easy for us to spend as much time outside as we could. Think grilled pizzas and star gazing.
So many places to explore for day trips makes this a great home base. Roque Bluffs State park, 2 miles away, has great walking trails, a sandy beach and a freshwater lake. (And wild blueberries!!) We hit Bar Harbor and Acadia one day, about an hour and a half away, and both East and West Quoddy lighthouses. West Quoddy is less than an hour from the house.
All in all, none of us would hesitate to return. Thank you for a great family vacation.
We really enjoyed our vacation. The location was great, the house very clean and comfortable and the landlords Mike and Lisa very friendly and helpful. A vacation to remember.
My husband and I spent a fun filled week at Tide Watch. The house was beautiful with all of the comforts of home..big comfy bed, nice entertainment options and well equipped kitchen. Add in the fantastic view, direct access to the beach, and wonderful deck and large lawn for stargazing, and you've got a great place for hanging out or serving as a base camp for exploring the Down East coast. We brought our motorcycle and kayaks with us and trekked up.and down the coast from Acadia to Quoddy Head..great day trips, all made possible by Tide Watch ' s convenient central location. Quaint towns all around and plenty of restaurant options for good local fare as well as convenient shopping. Will definitely recommend to family and friends, and look forward to visiting again.
What an amazing place to spend one week. Weather was great, sun, a little clouds. A lot of shooting stars at night. By the fire pit. S'mores every night. Had some great lobsters from Mother Shuckers. Mike and Lisa are very friendly and helpful, with anything you need. We had access to the vegetable garden, everything was really good. Thank you for a great week, looking forward to coming back again next year.
Tidewatch was our "home away from home" for a week of family fun and incredible sightseeing. From the second we arrived at the house we knew it was going to be a great vacation. The house was very clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The kitchen was our favorite spot due to the views of the water from the french doors. It is very well equipped with every cooking utensil you could need. The screened porch allows you to open the french doors and enjoy the breeze and ocean air and keeps the house cool. We enjoyed sitting in the screened porch or on the deck and watching the boats. Walking the beach looking for shells and sea glass was relaxing, yet great fun for the four of us. Rogue Bluffs State Park is very close to the house and a beautiful place to visit. We enjoyed day trips to Bar Harbor and to Lubec and Eastport, but hanging out at the house and walking the beach were our favorite things to do. Comfortable furniture and beds made everyone happy! Mike was a great source of information about the area and recommended Helen's restaurant which we all loved. We can't wait to go back to Rogue Bluffs and Tidewatch!
This was our first visit to Maine and we thoroughly enjoyed our ten-day stay at Tidewatch at the end of June and first week of July. The property is located directly on Englishman Bay a few miles south of Machias. We enjoyed the cool weather and wonderful scenery, and also enjoyed the rental house itself. The house and property are well cared for, and the layout was convenient and accessible for our family, consisting of 2 adults, 2 college-age kids, 2 teenagers, and 2 toy spaniels. The house is a 100-year old farm house, but it has been updated tastefully and contains multiple modern amenities. 5 BR, 2.5 BA, nice kitchen & dining area, beautiful view out the back of the house, off the back open-air deck, screened-in porch, and sitting area overlooking the beach itself.
We enjoyed traveling to nearby Roque Bluffs State Park (5 minutes away by car), Acadia National Park (1.5 hours), Lubec (1 hour), West Quoddy Head Lighthouse (1 hour), and several other attractions. I recommend you visit Jasper Beach in Machiasport.
We definitely would return to this vacation rental. Capt. Mike and his wife are the owners, and Mike was nearby on the property to take care of us and to offer us suggestions on things to do, local dining, etc. He was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Although he was staying in another building on the property, he was never underfoot and never intruded on our vacation time.
We highly recommend Tidewatch if you want to visit "Down East" Maine!
