Nestled in the rolling hills and hidden between famous vineyards, we invite you to enjoy our very private, rustic, relaxing country home. Our home is perched high on 20 acres of oak trees and lupine filled meadows overlooking the beautiful Cachagua Valley.
Perfect for a family on holiday, weekend getaways or as a romantic retreat; use our Rose Cottage as a place to recharge or as a home base for exploring local vineyards, Big Sur, Carmel by the Sea, and Monterey.
The main house is two story with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living and dining area wood stove, full laundry area and lots of deck. The adjoining apartment holds 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with TV for DVD and video games. Both are fully furnished
My husband was born and raised in Carmel, we were married in Carmel Valley 30 years ago and have been going to either the village or Carmel often in those 30 years. This area is home and we plan to retire there someday. Currently we live in the San Francisco Bay area. Our country home has become our retreat, a place to unwind and recharge .We love to get out of the city and into the sunshine and slower pace of the country. We never grow tired of looking out at the vineyard filled valley from our deck or driving into Carmel for a sunset walk on the amazing white sand beach.
The Owner purchased this house in 2001
We found this property by chance on a business trip to Carmel. Once the realtor opened the gate to the property and we saw the beautiful meadow filled with lupine, poppies and ancient oak trees we knew we were home.
We love the quiet. You will notice when you first get out of the car the only sound you hear is the crickets and the frogs. We love the views of the valley, watching the finger of fog moving in and out of the valley below in the early morning or evening. We love eating dinner out on our deck in the soft candlelight on a warm night. We love to drive into Carmel to walk on the beach at sunset. There are so many things to do but often we just stay home with a pile of books and sit on the deck reading and relaxing.
Four of us, college classmates who graduated in 1963, gathered for a week in this beautiful spot to celebrate our 75th birthdays. We couldn't have found a more perfect place! The house is surrounded by lovely views and is totally isolated from any neighbors. We so enjoyed being together without the usual distractions of modern life.
The four bedrooms gave us plenty of privacy, and the well-stocked kitchen allowed us to cook each night after a day of exploring along the spectacular coast. We got a kick out of the twisting road up from the valley, and became almost as adept with it as the natives after a few days.
The house and grounds are filled with creative art and whimsy -- so many surprises in each room, out each door, and on each level of the gardens and pool. One of our favorites was an old wooden panel from a 2-seat outhouse, hung on a shed wall. We enjoyed the grill, the hot tub, the TV (to watch the Cubs win the World Series!), and the deck right outside the living room where we watching hummingbirds feed and finches bath in a little pool a few feet from where we were sitting. Oh, and there were fresh limes for our vodka and tonics every night and rosemary for our chicken.
In short, this is a spectacular place to gather with those you love.
My family of five rented this property because we were attending a wedding in nearby Carmel Valley. Our overall impression of the property is that it is a beautiful location with a spectacular view of the valley. The outdoor space is wonderful for relaxing either by the pool or in the hot tub which we made frequent use of. The only down side was the drive up to the house - many corkscrew turns and it takes about 20 minutes to drive up from the bottom of the hill. However, the rewards are great once you arrive at the property - the location is beautiful.
The house itself is very well equipped and comfortable with a nice size living space. Not fancy but comfortable for a family of five and clean and well maintained. No cell phone service but good wifi so we were at least able to send and receive email and text messages. We were unlucky enough to have to leave a day early due to the nearby fires at Big Sur - however the owners were very accommodating and refunded us our last night. The fires are out now and we hope to return possibly next summer. Lovely property!
We were a group of retired men who were attending the Historic Races at Laguna Seca.
The home was very comfortable and an excellent place to relax & unwind. It was a bit of a long and winding road to drive in but we thoroughly enjoyed our time at this home.
Unfortunately there were fires in the area which detracted from the views but when the wind changed direction it revealed a magnificent view of the valley below.
We would highly recommend this home if you are looking for a great place to get away from it all and relax!
This place is fantastic: the views are just stunning, multiple decks are great, the pool, the hot tub and the fire pit - everything you might need in a mountain retreat and more. And so quiet and private. We took my parents here for a couple of days so that they could have some fun with their grandchildren and we couldn't have picked a better place. We will definitely be back.
I cannot imagine a more stunning view. My friends and I rented the house for a girls' weekend and we were just blown away by the beauty and solace surrounding us. The house is comfortable and well-equipped, and I got to bring my dogs, too! Quick drive to Carmel Valley Village and not far from Carmel by the Sea where we did some serious damage shopping! I plan to be back next year on my birthday again and hopefully before that!!
I enjoyed staying at the Rose house. The outdoor decks and pool have great views of the valley and offer quiet relaxation away from it all. The indoor areas were spacious enough and comfortable for our group. The drive up and down the hill was challenging for city drivers, especially at night.
