About the property

Bungalow Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4), on a unique river beach

Sky Beach Cabin is a cute cozy bungalow style cabin only fifty steps from scenic Skykomish River in the Cascade Mountains of western Washington. There is a half-mile long rocky/sandy river beach much of the year, great for kids and dogs to explore. The cabin is reminiscent of rustic beach bungalows; but completely remodeled inside with upscale touches such as a terrific full kitchen, wifi, satellite TV, very comfortable king bed, covered outdoor deck and hot tub, and adorable fishing cabin decor. There is also a small deck off the main bedroom with a mountain and river view - great place for morning sun and coffee.

Outdoor recreationists will love the rural mountainous area of Northwest Washington with three nearby wilderness areas and a national forest with great hiking, whitewater rafting & kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, seasonal fishing, and rock climbing. The cabin is 24 miles west of Stevens Pass Ski Mountain with skiing, mountain biking, scenic chairlift rides, and disc golf. The cabin is 60 miles/90 minutes northeast of Seattle.

Note: You don't have to drive over a pass to get to the cabin when coming from the Seattle area. However, you need to be prepared for winter driving conditions approximately late November-February.

In the summer the beach is set up with a fire pit for beach fires, chairs & loungers next to the Skykomish River, providing a charming place to relax and enjoy the sound of the river lapping on the beach. Sky Beach Cabin is located in a sparsely populated area, so most likely you will have the beach to yourselves, with the occasional fisherman walking by. The rocky beach is an easy 25ft from the cabin (no steep bank).

There is also a fire ring in the yard next to the cabin which can be used year-round weather permitting and no burn ban.

The cabin is located on a wooded lot. There are other cabins in the area as well as private residences, with fences on both sides to provide privacy.

The main bedroom has a new king bed with 2" memory foam topper, a 32" TV and DVD player, and writing desk with river view.

The second bedroom is located on the opposite end of the cabin, providing privacy. This bedroom has bunk beds with full on bottom and twin above. Note: the upper bunk is not suitable for small children as it does not have a side rail. In order to keep costs down, the second bedroom is closed off when there are only two people and the saving is passed on to you as lower rental rates. If the second bedroom is needed when there are only two people, it will be made available for a one-time additional charge of $25.

Up to two clean, flea-free, quiet mature dogs are allowed with an additional charge starting at $20/dog/night. Discount for multiple nights and/or multiple dogs - see notes below rates listings. An adjustment will be made to the quote if there are more than one dog or reservation is more than three nights. Please make a comment if there will be more than one dog.

Note: 4WD, AWD or chains may be required at times in winter. The road is plowed, but it is a somewhat rough mountain road. There will be snow at the cabin when the snow level is 1,000ft or below.

About Brad Olsen

I was born in Seattle, and have lived in Baring since 1978. I worked at several ski areas, including closeby Stevens Pass. I currently remodel cabins and as well as a property manager. I love the outdoors, hiking, floating the river, and golf.

Brad Olsen purchased this cabin in 1978

Why Brad Olsen chose Puget Sound North

I love this area because it is so beautiful with green year-round. I love the easy assessibility to outdoor recreation such as skiing, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and fishing.

What makes this cabin unique

Sky Beach Cabin is unique as it has no-bank access to a rocky/sandy beach that is almost a mile long when the river level is low. Great for walking the dog and for exploring. During the summer there are sandy coves that make great calm, cold water swimming areas. Easy take-out for kayaks, rafts & tubes. Beach camp fires under the stars. Watch the river go by, the moon rise from behind the mountains, dig your toes in the sand, enjoy the cool river breeze on the occasional hot days protected from the sun by the overhanging tree branches. When the river level is low, sit by the river and listen to the water lap gently on the shore imagining yourself on a tropical beach.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This cabin was just what we needed. It was warm, cozy & beautiful. We loved just sitting in the living room or the deck and staring at the river. Our dog even found a friend next door, we called him baby brown. Our only regret is we stayed just one night. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic Retreat even in the Rain!

  • 5 of 5

Sky Beach Cabin was the perfect choice for our family of two parents, two teens and two dogs.

Parents Loved: The cabin's fun decor, soft towels, dishwasher, hot tub, movie selection, charcoal grill, big shower, great coffee pot, writing desk in master, the trees!!

Teens Loved: comfy bunkbed, Wifi, walking dogs to the river, playing cards, mom brought chocolate, watching dogs swim in the river, comfy couch, large TV, movie selection

Dogs Loved: Swimming in the river, sniffing in the forest, watching out the windows

We set off from Sammamish knowing the forecast was for rain but brought firewood anyhow. Loved the adventure of going over the suspension bridge! Our two night stay was punctuated by rain but this place is great in the rain too! We grilled and ate on the porch by twinkling strung lights, played cards (no mosquitoes) watched a movie, then slept in the sumptuously cloud-like beds. The teens left the next day as planned and the parents swam the dogs, worked from our laptops, went to the Baring store for coffee (which we forgot :( ) had a hot tub, made dinner, played Scrabble, watched a movie and enjoyed the sound of rain on the roof.

Things to note: There is sand surrounding the cottage so bring shoes that slip on and off easily at the door. The clear cold river is definitely swimmable in August but the air was cold for this swimmer. There is a lovely little beach strip between the forest and the rocky beach with chairs and a table. The forest canopy blocks most rain but the secondary drips, so even in the rain you could have a campfire in the pit which is located ten feet off the front patio.

The interior of the cabin is much cuter than the pictures. If you appreciate log cabin themed decor like us, you will love the fishing lamps, artwork and pine paneling. SBCabin is well appointed with microwave, pot and pans, loads of dishes and glasses and lots of towels for the deluxe, modern bathroom. Even two dogs bowls and towels! The appliances are top of the line, even the toaster.

I especially appreciated the writing desk seeing I'm a writer and had set aside six hours on the second day for rewrites of my new novel Girl of his Dream (shameless plug!) I only wish I had this writing desk at my own house and the view of the river and forest to stare at during writers' block moments.

Well worth every penny. Thanks for allowing our doggies!

Lovely modern cabin in a beautiful riverfront setting!

  • 5 of 5

I booked this cabin for three nights for my husband and I to celebrate my husband's birthday. It is lovely! Modernized, spotlessly clean, great furnishings, cozy, private, quiet and romantic! We spent a lot of time on the back deck and in the hot tub which overlooks the beautiful Skykomish River. My husband brought some feed for the local critters which he sprinkled outside early each morning and we got to watch a lot of blue jays. Steps away is the river beach which was fun to walk on and my husband did some fly fishing (he didn't catch anything but he had a great time!) The king bedroom was large and roomy and the bed is super comfortable! We were able to bring our small dog with us which was great and we took some walks back out of the community and over the suspension bridge. Beautiful creeks and scenery around the area. We brought some wood and had a fire in the fire pit each night. The owners were very kind and helpful throughout the booking process and afterwards. They remembered that we had requested an early check-in and instigated contact the morning of check-in to let us know we could arrive an hour early which was very much appreciated. We received our full deposit back just a few days after checkout. We loved everything about the cabin and we will be back! Thank you Brad and Janet!
