'The Kekaha Plantation' house was featured in the book 'the Hawaiian House now', and was one of only two houses from Kauai in the book published in 2007. 'Hawaii still lives in Kekaha' said Gail Miller of the sleepy West Kauai town she lived in since 1998, when this publicized and well known designer purchased this Plantation Manager's home. Originally built in 1931 by the Kekaha Sugar Plantation, it was purchased by Miller after she first saw this beachside plantation structure that was in desperate need of repair. It was it's original features, many of which were preserved during the extension renovation in 1998, that attracted her to this house. Rich Douglas fir floors, gracious archways, ceilings fabricated from sugar cane, and large rooms that opened onto the outdoors provided the ingredients to create and preserve a piece of rich Hawaiian plantation heritage. 'Neutral colors have been used to highlight the beauty of the outdoor ocean setting,' she said in describing the interior finishes. 'Surfers and tourists line the shore to watch the sun drop into the western horizon at an hour that used to bustle with workers returning from the fields to their plantation homes.'
The OCEANFRONT ESTATE SIZE LOT offers privacy and a front row seat to the surfers at Davidson's Surf Break and the AMAZING SUNSETS each night over the mysterious island of Ni'ihau in the distance.
NEW in 2012 is a 14x28 PRIVATE POOL! This is not shared with anyone and it is situated in the privacy of the large rear yard. The covered back lanai has easy access to the pool area. Overlooking the pool is a new exercise room for those who would like to keep up their healthy lifestyle while on vacation.
You will find that you will have to force yourself to go out and explore the beauty of the island. It will be tempting to just stay and vacation at your house with the pool, the covered outdoor lanai areas, and awesome views of the sunset over the ocean.
There are two oceanfront master bedrooms with king four poster mahogany beds, and french doors opening onto one of the four covered lanais. 'It's just gracious and very relaxing with the sound of the waves pounding away, lulling you to sleep with the perfume of plumeria wafting in the windows.' There are two additional guest bedrooms, sharing a bath, offering sleeping for up to 8 guests comfortably in style. The kitchen is just what the cook ordered..... making it a pleasure to prepare for an impromptu beach party or an evening of dining on your own lanai or in the formal dining room. There is an airy butler's pantry offering an air of elegance.

Dream come true
Davidson Pt Beach House is the most beautiful vacation home I have ever rented. Pictures can never do justice to this "home" and the location in Kekaha makes it a dreamy island vacation that will meet every expectation. This is a perfect spot for families and friends to gather. The lanai's, pool, gorgeous yard, and ocean view make it hard to leave the house. Everything is high end. Book this house! We will return again and again.
Perfect!! Absolutely perfect!!!
We came to Kauai to finally get married on our favorite Kauai beach this past December and this house was perfect for me, my husband, our girls and our parents. The pool was wonderful and literally two minutes away from Kekaha Beach. We spent many evenings lounging in the hammocks on the porch and watching the sunsets. We all enjoyed our time here immensely. It was so hard to leave at the end of the week. I feel so fortunate that after years of waiting I was finally able to able to have my dream wedding and stay in such a beautiful spot. Noise from traffic can be a bit bothersome at night if you are sleeping with the French doors open but we hardly noticed it when we were swimming or sitting on the back porch. We cannot wait to come back!!!
Perfect experience all the way around, and only one problem ....
The problem? You need to make sure you book excursions and outings well in advance of your arrival or you will NEVER LEAVE THIS HOUSE. It's comfortable, spacious, well furnished, thoroughly updated ... you feel like you're in Kauai back in the 30's when sugar was king, but still have all the amenities of the 21st century.
When you book a year in advance there's a lot of time to worry about details. But by the time our family and an aunt arrived all the worries fell away one by one:
* Isn't it a long way away from Lihue and the north shore attractions? Yes, but the island is small enough that we could make several excursions to the north and east sides and come back with plenty of time for swimming and reading at the house.
* No A/C? Yes, but the front doors open to the ocean breeze and every room and lanai has one or two huge Hunter fans. It was breezy and cool every day and I had to use a blanket at night. On the day of our arrival it was humid and still, but very day afterwards we had perfect sea breezes.
* Right by a highway? Yes, but with the surf running all day and night you hardly notice. You're also pretty close to the end of the road, so traffic is limited enough that we never waited more than 5 seconds before crossing over to the beach.
* Can you even see the sun set into the ocean with Niihau in the way? Nope, not in July ... but the colors are so incredible and the surf so harmonious it doesn't matter. We thought about driving around to Polihale for a better view, but every night's sunset from the upper veranda or down on the rocks was perfect.
* Doesn't it rain a lot in Kauai? Yes -- 450 inches a year on Mt Waialeale just a few miles away. But down in Kekaha we barely had two small showers in 11 days, and perfect weather all other times.
In short, everything I worried about came to nothing. The kids had a blast naming all the geckos (Two-Tail Timmy was a favorite), my 70+ year old Aunt had no problem navigating the broad stairs and getting in our out of the pool. There was room for all of us to be together, claim a quiet hammock, or do "coffee and guitar" on a veranda.
Highly recommend Sunrise Helicopter tour, Na Pali coast our with Capt Andy, a kayak/hike up the Wailea river to Secret Falls, & Koloa Zipline was an awesome experience. All made better by the fact we'd be coming back to this gracious house when done.
We looked at a lot of Kauai houses: so glad we picked this one.
Another Hawaii Vacation for the Women!
Four friends have visited Hawaii several times and two of the women have been visiting the islands for years. This was all of our first time staying on the southwest side of Kauai. We had a wonderful time and loved the house! The lanais front and back, side, upper and lower were all wonderful! The pool is a huge plus and is the perfect size. We had a great 2 weeks and would highly recommend this home. The view of the ocean is breathtaking and mesmerizing, particularly from the upper balcony. A great house!
Outstanding home and watch the ocean from bed on awakening each day and retiring
This place is exquisite and loved by all 9 of us. You could not ask for more. Furnishings are unique, grandkids loved the pool. Pool cleaning people came twice while we were there and gardener once. Grounds are lovely and so close to doing neat things on west side of island. Had no rain here and you can enjoy lanais day and night. Huge kitchen with butlers pantry and plenty of outside tables a huge dining room that seats 10, if you choose to be fancy.
Spectacular views and sunsets. Can leave upstairs bedroom outside doors open at night and listen to the waves. At times the highway out front can be just a bit noisy. Sur enjoyed th coconut palms,banana trees, and flowers. Certainly would love to return. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with our family.
In reflecting on our Davidson Point House rental experience it is difficult to add to the previous, very positive reviews. The house is beautiful yet comfortable, and maximizes the setting, with the ocean views and back yard pool. Our family members, which included a toddler, serious cyclists, and a grandparent, were equally thrilled with our experience of easy access to a beautiful beach, relatively uncontested cycling venues, almost unparalleled scenery, and the beautiful house with all the lanais and the heated pool. Access to casual restaurants and grocery stores was also good, considering that the house is located in as sparsely populated area. (As vacationers it was great not to have to deal with crowds.) We definitely plan to return to Davidson Point House.
