About the Property
House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)
Sea turtles regularly nest on the beach. This is a place naturalists and bird watchers will love. There are miles of private hiking trails on the 400 acre property that has stupendously large trees. The property backs into a large conservation area and is near famed Corcovado National Park. The house has a good library of natural history books on the flora and fauna.
The house catches the sea breeze and is designed with an open well-lit architecture. Hammocks, rocking chairs and long verandas and decks with views of the ocean and forest encourage relaxation. There is no email or cell phone access(just a shortwave radio linked to neighbors and ecolodges in the area).
The caretakers will take care of cooking and cleaning. The house has a private drive and is set far back from the road. It is extremely secluded with the nearest neighbors a mile away. Yet high end ecolodges with good restaurants and world class surfing are only 15 minutes drive.
The surf out front of the house is big and not for swimming. But you can swim in the mouths of clear water rivers 15 minutes walk down the beach.

This is a property with an abundance of primary rainforest and wild undeveloped beach. it is for naturalists and birdwatchers who want nature close at hand. Comes with a resident Spanish-speaking cook and caretaker who cook, clean, des laundry, and looks after guests' needs. Our caretaker is not a trained naturalist, but he was born and raised in the area and is an experienced trail guide who knows our extensive trail system.

About the owner: I am a tropical ecologist and writer who works on conservation of tropical forests. I built this house to have a base for forest conservation work. I am interested in having people with an interest in conservation and natural history visit and enjoy the Osa and support our conservation programs.
Why the Owner Chose Puntarenas, Costa Rica:
I have spent more than three decades in tropical rainforests around the world and I consider this area one of the best for visitors because of the abundance of wildlife, the great climate and relative absence of biting flies. I sleep in my house with all the windows and doors wide open without a mosquito net. If you want to enjoy the combination of ocean and rainforest this is it.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Utter tranquility surrounded by the beauty of tropical nature. The surf fishing is good if you have a strong cast. A 45 minute walk either direction down the beach brings you to rocky tidepools with an interesting array of fish, mollusks and sometimes an octopus or moray eel. You can lie in a hammock and watch a group of Fiery-billed Araçari (Pteroglossus frantzii) attacking the papayas.
