Located in the heart of Beauforts National Historic Landmark District. This fully restored ca. 1820 guest house is part of a complex that includes ca. 1790 main house, green house and carriage house, all tucked into a fenced 1 acre parcel. The property has been the subject of numerous publications to include Traditional Home Magazine, Coastal Living, South Carolina Home and 2 episodes of House And Garden TV.
Sensitively restored, it has a full kitchen and bath. In addition to the single bedroom there is a loft with double futon. equiped with cable TV ,WIFI and IPHONE dock. Ideally located on a quiet side street you are only a five minute walk from downtown shopping, dining and waterfront park. I have a very friendly Golden Retriever and with the large fenced yard welcome well behaved pets.
I have spent plenty of time in Beaufort SC. This town is so multifaceted that a week barely gives you enough time to experience it all.
That being said, the part of Beaufort one cannot afford to miss is the history and rich historic quaintness that is unique to only Beautiful Beaufort. Michael's 1800's cottage was moved to his yard years ago to complete what just may be the most amazing garden in the heart of Beaufort.
Walk. Walk the yard, walk downtown, walk the neighborhoods. Beaufort is about walking and going a bit slower, do this and you will begin to absorb what the cottage is all about.
We stayed with Michael, Keegan and Tucker (his golden retrievers) for the last week of September 2016. His dogs were amazing hosts to our two Goldens, it was great watching them play and just enjoy the setting.
I was completely absorbed by the cottage, feeling like Thoreau in Walden for just a week, and that was what I needed. We also found this to be the perfect hub for day trips to Huntington Island, Hilton Head, Savannah, and Charleston. Michael is accessible and gracious but at the same time you feel like you are miles away from the world. My only regret is that I could only stay a week.
This will be my go to for Beaufort SC trips.
This was our first time in Beaufort, SC, and we truly found the best place to stay!!! Such a beautiful cottage, loaded with history itself, beautiful gardens all around, walking distance into town for dining, shopping, touring the historical homes of the town and best of all a walk to the waterfront where you can sit in a swing and watch the most beautiful sunset....every night!!! For us personally, we had the thrill of hearing fighter jets fly over every day, while practicing! Awesome!!! We love military airshows! Can't say enough about how fantastic a place this is, and how very nice, friendly and easy going the owner is! I could have spent a day just sitting on the porch of the cottage and enjoying the gardens and the variety of birds around us!!! Definitely coming back, hopefully permanently to Beaufort!!
Such a treat to stay in this historic carriage house! My three week stay with my two labs was delightful! Only a few blocks from popular Bay Street...but felt like I was miles away from Downtown! Nestled amongst Oak trees and lush manicured gardens this quaint cottage is THE place to stay when visiting Beaufort! Completely restored and decorated with fine antiques and southern charm, yet equipped with every modern amnenity you will need. Michael, the owner who resides on the property with his two golden retrievers could not have been more gracious! Thank you Michael for sharing your little slice of heaven with us!
This fabulous little cottage in the heart of the historic district is a slice of heaven away from home. When you stay here you will feel as though you are living the life of luxury. Everything is close; so much to walk to and having a working kitchen is fantastic so you can take advantage of all the fresh seafood in the area as well as fresh produce from the farmers markets.
Michael is a wonderful and gracious host. If you stay here, look for the photo album that documents the relocation of the cottage and Michael's subsequent expansion and remodel of this cottage to the little beauty it is today.
Come prepared to sit back, relax and enjoy Beaufort hospitality at its best. We will be back!
I cannot say enough about our stay in this cottage. Mike and the dogs made our trip so wonderful. We enjoyed getting to know them as well as enjoying the town of Beaufort. We ran a 5k in Beaufort that weekend and spent days in Bluffton, Hilton Head, and even Charleston. This is a great place to stay as well as centrally located to many other wonderful towns. We walked to dinner at night when we didn't cook in the kitchen. I really miss Keegan and Tucker the two Golden Retrievers. We will come back!!
This is our second stay here in this cabin. It is perfectly located, clean, comfortable and relaxing. The grounds are spectacular and if you like sweet dogs, there are two that are the icing on the cake. The waterfront is an easy walk nearby and I was able to run along the water to curb the effects of all the good southern food in the area. The owner is extremely accommodating and laid back and just an all around nice guy. We will definitely be back and hope the cabin is available as this is a find and a keeper for us.
