Our first trip to Beaufort was a real treat - amazing trees, beautiful homes, well appointed waterfront, great food. Our cottage was perfect for seeing and doing - biking and walking - reading and relaxing. Michael made us feel welcome and was there if we had questions about the area, but also attuned to our privacy. The cottage was tucked away in the corner of a beautiful yard and very private and quiet. Tucker and Keegan were always eager for a scratch behind their ears and a hello in the afternoons. If there were any unfriendly people in Beaufort - we did not meet them. Would definitely recommend the cozy cottage and Beaufort. So much history surrounds the town and outlying areas. Every meal we had in the local restaurants was outstanding - ice cream cones while enjoying the waterfront swings was the perfect end of a sightseeing day. Please visit Beaufort - you will not be disappointed.

Peaceful and Picturesque

  • 5 of 5

One of the best ways to enjoy Beaufort, SC is to stay in Michael Rainey’s cottage. We spent 5 days there with our pet shih tzu, Sammy. The cottage is clean, fully stocked, and furnished with antiques. It is located right in the midst of the historic district, within a half mile walk of almost all the main sites. I enjoyed getting up in the morning, walking Sammy to the waterfront park, and window shopping the stores and restaurants on Bay Street before the tourists crowded in. You can really get to see the pretty old houses and gardens in the area or just sit on the front porch and read – the cottage is stocked with all kinds of books and magazines if you don’t bring your own. It sits in the large back yard of the main house surrounded by beautiful gardens including Michael’s bonsai collection. This creates a peaceful atmosphere where you can listen to local church bells rather than the Route 21 traffic. The garden is fully fenced so your pet can run free. Michael has two golden retrievers that are willing playmates. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend you look into this little gem.

Wonderful Stay in Beaufort

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough good things about our stay at Michael's historic cottage in Beaufort. The cottage exceeded our expectations, and the setting, with its magnificent gardens, was peaceful and serene. We thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend time with Michael, our delightful host, and his two Golden Retrievers, Keegan and Tucker. Our two dachshunds had a great time playing with the Michael's dogs (who were extremely tolerant of our dogs' chasing and barking at them). We loved the location of the cottage. We were able to walk pretty much anywhere in the downtown area. We couldn't have asked for a more accommodating host or a better place to stay. Highly recommend!

Peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

Amazing gardens--even bonsai!!

Very quiet/peaceful, in heart of historic district (walking distance to lots of restaurants, shops, gelato). Our black lab loved it too! Owner was wonderful/even fed our dog for us when our kayaking adventure ran a little late. Already booked next year.

Great location and hospitality

  • 5 of 5

Michael was a great host. We had a one year old puppy with us and he loved playing in the secure yard with Michael's puppy. Host provided everything we needed and then some. He even let our dog out in the yard for us while we went on a couple non dog friendly excursions during the week.

Cozy Beaufort cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Michael's cottage for a week. We loved the spacious grounds and beautiful garden that surround it. The cottage was stocked with all to make our weeks stay comfortable. There couldn't be a better location to explore Beaufort. This property is located in the historical center of the city. We had a very enjoyable stay.
