About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

The Mas Picholine area :

located at less than 15' walk from Eygalieres village center, the Mas Picholine is in a natural and classified area of Alpilles which allow you to fulfill your expectations from the first days of Spring in a privilege climate with plenty of Provencal flower perfumes.

With the heated swimming pool, you will already have the opportunity in April to play and swim in a large 11,5*5m2 basin.

With bikes proposed in the Mas Picholine, either you climb the Alpilles hills, either you go through the unlimited ways available in this area.

Alpilles are wonderful hills with many different options for horse ridding or hiking.

You will also find Golf in 2 different locations close to Eygalieres.

If you prefer to relax with your family and friends, just stay in the 3 external terraces or under the pinus shaded place located in the corner of the garden designed by an architect.

Close to Eygalières, you will visit St Remy de Provence. Nostradamus was born here, and Van Gogh founded his inspiration and painted more than hundred pictures in the countryside. You may visit the places where the artist made the panoramas.

Glanum, just outside Saint Rémy is one of the most important Roman archeological sites in Provence. Founded 300 BC, it reveals a civilization that influences life here.

Near Eygalières, you will find the hills of the Baux de Provence, a village from Middle Ages located high on the rocks with an exceptional Castle and view on the Provencal country side.

The Mas Picholine has been built in 2007/2008. The style is traditional from Provence with stones and old material from last centuries, close to the old and authentic village. This Eygalieres village is located at 10mn from St Remy de Provence by car and close to Avignon city and the Baux de Provence.

The villa is set privately in its own 2000m2 garden within the estate, which is surrounded by old olive groves, hedges and scented trees and plants.

The villa has been designed in the style of a traditional Provencal bastide close to the old centre of Eygalières. This villa is part of a two villas large property with enclosed garden and security access. Entering the property, the villa is the second one on the back and far from neighbors.

You enter into the property through a large gate giving access to 2 separate villas. This recently built and tastefully decorated villa accommodates up to 10 people.

The villa is set privately in its own garden within the estate, which is surrounded by old olive groves, hedges and scented trees and plants. It has four bedrooms, two on the ground floor, two upstairs, each with private shower rooms and lovely views of the Alpilles hills from the upstairs rooms.

The Mas offers 1st Class standards, floors, windows, chimney and stairs with stones, saloon with high ceiling with very old and visible beams, marble in bathrooms, wood floors in bedrooms.

It has four bedrooms, two on the ground floor, two upstairs, each one with private shower room and lovely views on the Alpilles hills, the old village and the Mont Ventoux. The two double and two twin rooms have been individually decorated in a Provencal style and the whole house is air-conditioned.

The salon is comfortably finished and has a fireplace, a large, satellite television screen, DVD and hi-fi. The kitchen is typically French and well equipped with a large fridge/freezer, oven and hob, microwave and dishwasher and opens onto a covered terrace, where there is a barbecue, table and chairs. There is also laundry room with a washing and drying machine.

There is a swimming pool in a lovely, shady setting, which has a security alarm and lawn chairs and garden furniture scattered under the trees. Four specific terraces have been accommodated for relaxing. Outside lights softly illuminate the whole property in the evenings.

Outside :

=======

A fully equipped summer kitchen is available off the kitchen and the living room, under the large stone and shaded terrace with garden furniture.

It is equipped with a BBQ, 4 electric burners and a stone sink like many years ago.

You access the property through a private lane and stairs. At the rear of the house are enough parking spaces for several cars. There is also a garage.

The closest highway is the A7 (exit Cavaillon) 15 minutes drive away, which goes from Lyon to Marseille with connections for all major cities of the south east of France.

The closest train station is at Avignon and is served by the TGV (Train Grande Vitesse, i.e. high speed train) that goes to Paris in 2 hours and 40 minutes!

The closest airport is Avignon as well with daily flights to Paris. But most international connections are made through the international airports of Marseille-Marignane or Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

Why Isabelle Messier chose France

In fact, we have not bought the house, we built it. My wife is Architect, I'm Engineer, we both love Provence and we decided with the combination of our competencies to build a typical Provencal Mas. We did it with our Heart for our future of our family and we decided to rent it for a certain period to partly absorb the costs. We have chosen to make the construction with stones, woods from the area. Often our Customers are telling us that this Mas Picholine is 'Authentic'. On the other side, you will get all the comfort of a modern house with very high standards. Why this area : as described in the website, you have great opportunities in this Provence area with St Remy de Provence (VanGogh, Glanum archeology, artist town...), Avignon town, Nimes arenas, Alpilles wonderful hills, famous provencal markets, olives trees... And a nice weather a large part of the year.

What makes this house unique

I think that's better to provide you comments from Customers; I advise you to look at feedback from 3 of them : 1) USA/ Chicago Customer - new year 2009 Gilles and Isabelle, We had a wonderful time at your home. The place was wonderful and surpassed our expectations. The town of Eygalieres was a great location at which to tour much of Provence. In addition, M. Maya was extraordinarily helpful. You are lucky to have someone like him to assist you with the house in your absence. It was a wonderful get away to welcome in the new year! A bientot, Kathleen and Dan 2) USA / New York Customer - Aug 2009 Dear Gilles, Thank you for the gift bag! We are having a great time at the Mas.. It is fantastic in every way! The house is magnificent. The pool and gardens are perfect. The children are having a great time and have been reasonably well behaved. We only have one issue : we wish we had reserved for a longer time! We would gladly stay a second week if it was not already booked. Perhaps we will be back next year! Danika. Gaelle.

VISIT MAS PICOLINE! IT IS A MUST

  • 5 of 5

With seven friends (generation 60+) we spent a wonderful week at Mas Picholine. Everything was absolutely okay and I repeat and confirm what Oli wrote: "The house was very much in line with what had been advertized, in fact it looked even better! Excellent facilities, very nice decoration, comfortable furniture, everything contributed to a relaxing stay." Having BBQ on the covered terrasse - even when its raining - is "living like God in France", as we say in Germany. Welcome and service given by Mr. May was all time excellent. We enjoyed the time very much and none of us wanted to return after one week. Eygalières is a very nice little village, typically French, with numerous possibilities to spent the time. Les Alpilles one must have seen!!

A most enjoyable stay in a luxurious villa in the Provence

  • 5 of 5

We spent an excellent week at Eygalières. We easily found the place thanks to the exhaustive directions provided soon after our booking. We were met by a very warm and efficient person who showed us around, gave us (in addition to the keys) a number of good tips about restaurants etc. The house was very much in line with what had been advertized, in fact it looked even better! Excellent facilities, very nice decoration, comfortable furniture, everything contributed to a relaxing stay. We enjoyed very much the surroundings, the village of Eygalières itself (very typical yet quite dynamic, we recommend visiting the weekly market on Fridays), the Alpilles mountains (good hikes directly from the house's gate) and a few other remarkable spots (e.g. the medieval abbaye in Sénanque, the old village of Gordes, the Van Gogh tour of St Rémy de Provence).

Again, a most enjoyable stay and a place we would recommend warmly!

Wonderful Stay at Mas Picholine

  • 5 of 5

Four friends, my wife and I spent a wonderful week at Mas Picholine. It is a lovely house, well designed and beautifully landscaped. Being near the village of Eygalières was a true benefit with its épicerie, two bakeries, etc. We dined several times in St. Rémy-de-Provence, which along with Eygalières, provides all the restaurant options anyone would need.

Several nights we ate at the outdoor table with food bought at market and/or cooked in the well-appointed kitchen. Dining al fresco in the cool, dry evenings is one of the joys of Provence. The large outdoor table was well sheltered from any wind. A large mirror behind the table was cleverly placed, so even a diner facing the wall can see the Alpilles landscape in the background.

With two of the four comfortable bedrooms on the ground floor, the house can accommodate those who would prefer not to climb a flight of stairs.

The bottom line is: Mas Picholine is a villa my wife and I would be proud to own ourselves. We hope to rent it again.

Wonderful vacation for 8!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Mas Picholine was everything we hoped it would be - and more! Gilles was extrememly helpful with arrangements before our arrival, and Alexandre Maya was a wonderful welcoming committee - and even dropped by another day when we had a question. We were 4 couples and stayed for a week in September, although we wished it could have been longer. We enjoyed the welcome package of wine, olive oil, soap and lavender from a local vineyard, that we visited later to buy additional products.

The house is beautifully decorated and well equipped with everything we needed. The bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms were lovely and were all a good size. The indoor kitchen had plenty of room for all. The weather was perfect. We very much enjoyed the heated pool, and ate most of our meals in the outdoor kitchen.

The location was ideal. We walked every morning and stopped by the bakery in the village on the way home to pick up bread and crossants to go with our morning coffee. There are some very good restaurants in town, again walking distance to the house which is a real bonus. The Friday morning market was one of our favourites, not too big but with great vendors. Eygaliers is an easy drive to many of the other towns so we really felt that we saw as much as possible during our week there.

We moved on to another house, in another area, for a second week but it didn't compare to Mas Picholine. When we went back to the Friday market in Eygaliers the second week, we almost felt like we were going home.

A la prochaine??

The delights of Eygalieres and Mas Picholine

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Mas Picholine in the picturesque village of Eygalieres was a truly wonderful one. The villa more than lived up to the promotional pictures on the website and we were delighted by the decor and ambiance of the place. It was an extremely comfortable living experience for all of us (eight adults) and we found the villa to be very well equipped. The garden and pool were well maintained and we enjoyed the use of them immensely.

The villa was spotlessly clean and in pristine condition. We felt that the owners had paid great attention to detail for example we all appreciated the hairdryers in each bathroom, generous cupboard space and especially the 'welcome pack' on our arrival. We also valued the information given to us about restaurants, local markets, shopping etc.

Eygalieres is enchanting and we enjoyed the fact that it was within walking distance from the villa. The local restaurants are well worth visiting and the market in the village each Friday is excellent. It was wonderful to be able to base ourselves in Eygalieres because it was within easy travelling distance of St Remy de Provence, Gordes and Roussillon, to name just a few destinations. We loved our visits to Valdition(Local wine and olive farm) and found their wine and olive oil delicious.

The weather was glorious and the place not too crowded.

So our marvellous holdiay has come to and end and we look forward to our next visit to this beautiful place.

Beautiful villa!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have enjoyed our stay more. The house was beautiful, very clean, spacious, authentic but with modern amenities. We are only 4 people, but the house could easily hold another 2 families, and the kitchen is fully equipped to handle a crowd. LOVED the outdoor kitchen and outside sitting areas. The pool was so fun, with plenty of lounge chairs and a nice shaded area as well. The gardens and views are gorgeous, especially the lovely lavender. Felt very spoiled having an ice maker, internet access, and a washer and dryer.

The villa is within 2 minutes driving (or can bike there as well on bikes provided) to central Eygalieres, where there are several nice restaurants and cafes and small markets. Definitely walk up to the high hill in the town for breathtaking views.

The villa is an easy drive from the Avignon train station, and we enjoyed other day trips to St. Remy, Les Baux, Pont du Gard, & Arles. Took train out of Nimes, which is also only about an hour away.

Would recommend this property very highly!
