About Karen House

John and I got married in 1989 and have enjoyed the blessings of so much happiness. Our family was completed when our son was born in 1993 and our daughter was born in 1996. As a family we enjoy spending quality time together playing and relaxing in the Tahoe Area. We are open to swap our vacation home for your vacation home!

Karen House purchased this house in 2009

Why Karen House chose Lake Tahoe North Shore CA

Our family was looking to slow down the fast paced life of a family of 4 with two teenagers. We found Tahoe Donner had something for all of us. We love the winter with skiing, playing in the snow and relaxing by the fire. The summer is also great with so many activities to choose from. We love to boat, hike, play tennis, golf and relax by the lake. Tahoe Donner has multiple amenities that can be enjoyed year round, thus we chose this as our second home. We plan to spend years making memories that will last a lifetime.

What makes this house unique

Located off Highway I-80, the property is approximately 35 miles from the Tahoe-Reno International Airport; 100 miles East of Sacramento Airport off Highway 80 and 200 miles East of San Francisco.

Hi John and Karen,

We enjoyed our stay in Tahoe. Thank you so much for everything. We loved your place and would highly recommend it to our other friends. The house was spacious and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed. The kids had plenty of fun. Overall, a very memorable stay! It was very nice of you to make us feel welcome.

Thanks again.

Great House!

  • 5 of 5

When looking for a house I needed to find something that would accommodate the "children" of the family(really, ages 17-29). As soon as we saw the sled hill, we knew this would be the house. We could be kids at heart again without worrying about running over little ones at the nearest ski resort. The "boys" had a lot of fun creating sled tracks for hours. It ended up being perfect because our dad was able to watch us from the deck(he hates snow, so it was a win-win for us all).

The bedrooms were perfect! We all fit nice and cozy. We loved the lay out, including the big living room space that was connected to the kitchen. It allowed us interact and connect with each other. The carpet was a plus too! The house provided a lot of tools and toys(shovels, sleds, etc.) we needed.

The location of the house was perfect! It wasn't too far from Safeway, and we even took a quick drive to Kings Beach.

We have stayed in a lot of rentals in the area and this was by far the best! Karen's communication was amazing and she even called to make sure everything was going good. You can tell that Karen and her family have a lot of pride in their house and sharing it with others. We definitely felt at home. Thank you Karen and family for allowing our family to have a much needed relaxing/fun weekend!

Great getaway location for kids

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time staying in Tahoe Donner and the Memory Maker cabin was perfect. We were two families with small kids and the easy access to skiing and perfect sledding hill in the back were ideal. We had a wonderful time and will be back! Thanks to Karen for making this an easy last minute booking.

A perfect stay!

  • 5 of 5

My family, sister's family, and our parents had a wonderful relaxing two days at this amazing house. There was room for everyone to spread out and still be together. We enjoyed the games and puzzles in the closet and even froze our bums off to play darts and ping pong in the garage. The backyard was great for snowball fights and the ring swinging game as well. Karen was friendly and quick to respond in all of our communications. We will surely stay here again!

Wonderful vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had 10 people in in our family group. The layout has room enough for a lot of family together time as well as cozy quiet bedroom spaces. The cabin was well stocked and nicely decorated. It felt very homey without being cluttered. Everything was in excellent condition, even better than the pictures! There are plenty of sleds and other snow toys to allow everyone to join in Karen patiently and thoroughly answered all of our logistics questions. She and husband seem to go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Our depost was returned within a week. The master bedroom mattress is a soft gel foam style mattress. Keep in mind, the fold out mattress in the den may be best suited for children.

Great Cozy and Spacious Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We went up for a family ski extended weekend. The house was warm and inviting, and the owners were gracious and attentive. Plenty of games for nighttime entertainment. Nice spacious kitchen. Quiet space at the end of a cul-de-sac. We would definitely recommend and be back again!

Nice and cozy home for a family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked the house for the long Thanksgiving weekend along with 2 other families. Karen is very attentive and make sure you have a seamless stay. The moment we walk in the house it is like a treasure hunt for my husband. He loves the antique decor in the house from the old ice skating blade to the wood burning fire place. For me, the kitchen was my favorite. It is stocked with an extensive varieties of herbs (everything you need to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner). Most importantly, it has a lot of bowls and plates, so we don't ever run out or have to constantly do the dishes. There are plenty of board games and a ping pong ball table in the garage to keep the kids entertained. We also had a blast with the kids playing with the sleds and making snowballs all was included in the house . Kayak and life jackets are available in the garage if you are coming here for summer activities. It's definitely a nice property for a family getaway.
