Why John Price chose Baldy Mountain
We purchased this cabin in 2009 with the hopes of it being a year-round vacation retreat for our growing family. Over the years, the cabin has exceeded our expectations in terms of warmth and memory-building. We invite you to enjoy our experience and vacation in our cabin. Relax , rejuvenate and have fun in the Colorado mountains and historic Breckenridge.
What makes this Cabin unique
Why is this cabin named "Price's Palace"? The owner's grandfather, John Dale Price, was a four-star WWII Admiral and briefly Chief of Naval Operations. When he was based at the Pensacola Naval Air Station he owned a small weekend farm in nearby Lillian, Alabama that he named "Price's Palace". As a gift to him, Admiral Price's men commissioned a gold plaque featuring four stars and the words "Price's Place". That same plaque nows hangs beside the cabin's front door.

My family thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The property is just as described and the location is perfect! We had morning coffee on the front deck and the view of the mountains were spectacular. We even had a Fox come onto the property one morning. I would definitely come back here again. We have zero complaints!
John was delightful to work with. Our stay was very enjoyable.
The cabin was so comfortable & welcoming. Waking every morning to a perfect view of the mountains was fabulous. We would definitely book this home/property again.
Annual family vacation
Great location near town. Spacious and very comfortable accommodations with everything that you should need. The owner and property manager were always responsive when we needed directions or guidance. The home is very clean and well kept with cable WiFi and movies and games for entertainment. What an amazing way to bbq on the veranda overlooking the mountains and watching the sun set.
We even had a friendly visitor on a regular basis, a Fox.
Even after all the snowing they have a designated service to come out and clear the driveway and road access.
We enjoyed the snow around the home and attempted to make a snowman. Great views of peak 9. Will definitely recommend and return.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! Glad everyone enjoyed their visit. We have a local snow plow service for driveway whenever 3 or more inches of snow falls. I will tell the fox hello for you. JK
We had a wonderful stay. The cabin is in a great location, secluded but not too far from town!
The view from the cabin was beautiful! John, the owner, called to make sure everything was perfect and it was!
Thank you so much for the nice review. I am glad everyone had pleasant visit.
We also like that the location is close to town but still very private.
The property is exactly as it was described!
Thank you for sharing your lovely cabin with us. I can't comment too much on the views because there was record high snow fall this season drifting up to the first floor windows. The view from the top front deck was beautiful. The Property was shoveled and easy access into the home. (I mention this because that was not the case with some properties during the week of our visit). The Hot Tub was wonderful and enjoyed by all. The only negative comment is I would put the TV outside the hutch. It was hard to view from the side couch.
Thank you for the very nice review.
We really love the views too!
Glad the front porch was shoveled at your arrival. It has been a very busy snow season and a challenge in plowing the drive and keeping front porch cleared.
We believe in setting our guests expectations before booking with an accurate description of the cabin. The pics and wonderful guest reviews further set clear expectations.
Hope you all can visit again next year!
Great time, but a few cons
.PROS: The view is amazing! The cabin is just as described in the listing and is super cute. The front and back porches are wonderful and the hot tub is one of the best we've ever used! I'm certain that the outdoor area is fantastic in the spring and summer because we enjoyed them with 2 feet of snow outside! The owner is quick to respond and the booking process was a breeze. The house was clean. The owner has the most complete and informative list of check in information I've seen in the 11 years we've been renting homes in the area. There is an adequate kitchen for cooking, but the microwave and refrigerator are oddly placed in the mud room.
CONS: The upper loft "room" is outfitted with a King Sized bed which we found very comfortable, but there is absolutely no privacy. It could benefit from at least one set of "decorative privacy screens" or some sort of clever draw back curtain, if for no other reason than getting dressed. There is one dresser with a few drawers, but no closet available, as it is locked. No problem if you're okay with living out of your suitcase, but if you're staying for more than a week, that may be an issue for some. Also, no ensuite bathroom, so you have to navigate the stairs in the night.
Both restrooms could use an upgrade.
The two other bedrooms are VERY TINY. Room for the bed, and that's about it.
The bunk room was the most spacious room of them all and a great area to put the kids if you're traveling with children, but you can not access the bathroom or bedroom #3 without walking through the bunkroom, so if you're traveling as one family with your children the house is fine. If you're a few couples traveling together, privacy and quiet spaces are found to be an issue.
There is no garage. Most homes in this price point have them and it's nice to not have to scrape the snow every day.
Our biggest complaint as a group of 8 were the LACK OF TOWELS!!! There are literally EIGHT TOWELS in the entire house. So, to use the hot tub, you had to use your one towel. Now you're left with a wet towel that you have to throw in the dryer before being able to shower.
Overall, if you're looking for a place to stay with your immediate family this home will suit your needs. If you are a mixed group, you may want to check out some of the other properties where you can spread out for some quiet time and come together in the shared spaces for game night.
Glad to hear that you and your eight person group had a great time. Our other guests have told me that they love the views, our front and back porches, the Viking dual energy commercial range and our new hot tub.
I must say that your three star review surprised and concerned me so l immediately pulled up your original rental inquiry. My review of your inquiry indicates that you listed fewer persons than you seem to have included in your eight person group. Our VRBO advertisement describes the cabin as being "designed for six adults (three couples) with each couple sleeping on separate floors for additional privacy or two families with children sleeping in the bunk room".
If you had initially disclosed the true number and composition of your eight person group I would likely have steered you away from our cabin (as I routinely do for groups that are too large for our cabin in my opinion). My goal is for each of our guests to have an outstanding stay and sometimes it is evident from the get-go that a group would be better off at a different property. My cell phone number is clearly indicated in our VRBO advertisement so that potential guests can reach out to me with any questions they may have about the cabin's situation or suitability for their group.
Our VRBO photographs are crystal clear about the cabin's view, layout and condition. Based on your negative comments it appears you should have rented a newer, larger, minimum three bathroom property with a garage. Our cabin doesn't have a garage - so we don't advertise a garage nor do we display photographs of a garage. It truly puzzles me why you were disappointed that there wasn't a garage when it was evident from our listing that there isn't a garage!
Our cabin is outfitted with fresh linens and toiletries for each stay and has a super washer and dryer available for our guest's use. The loft has many wall hooks that we find handy to hang our clothes during our stays in addition to utilizing the dresser drawers.
In summary, while we're glad your group had an enjoyable vacation, in all fairness, in the future I recommend that you thoroughly access your group's needs, carefully review each VRBO listing, call with questions if necessary and accurately disclose the composition of your group on your rental inquiry. Doing so will likely lead to greater future satisfaction.
