About The Owner

We are a couple living in Portland who love to get away from it all and relax. We simply wanted to share the cabin since we can't visit as often as we'd like.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2009

Why The Owner chose Rainier & St. Helens

We bought this property because of the great bass fishing in Silver Lake. Silver Lake is one of the best bass lakes in WA with it's shallow water. The public launch is so close that we love to go up for a weekend of fishing.

Cute cottage on silverlake

  • 5 of 5

My sisters, brother, myself and kids stayed here to attend a nearby wedding. The cottage is very charming.

Suggest bringing a fan if you're coming during the summertime. Just a tad bit warm upstairs and there is no screen so we had to close the window because mosquitoes were entering.

One bathroom so take turns showering.

My kids loved the board games they had. Outside front porch/deck area was nice and large enough to eat dinner and breakfast. Plenty of sheets, blankets, and pillows. Love how there was an onsite washer and dryer.

Overall great experience.

The owners were very accommodating and responded back promptly.

Great, Comfortable Cabin - Great Location

  • 5 of 5

A lovely cozy cabin with great access for Mount St. Helen's area. Easy access from I5 but not close enough to be noisy. Cabin came with everything we needed and was comfortable. We were a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 teenagers). we did contact Our host who got back to us very promptly and answered our questions. We went to the RV resort next-door to play on Silver Lake which was excellent fun.

So close yet so far away!

  • 3 of 5

This is a rustic cabin with a view of the lake. Only problem - there is no way to get to the lake!! Oh well we were not there for lake activities. Our reason for staying at this cabin was its proximity to Mount St. Helens ( still almost an hour drive to hiking trails). It was clean. You could have slept 8 people there- but definitely would not recommend. There is only one bathroom with a stall shower. We found the place poorly stocked - no toilet paper or extra paper towels! ( in hindsight we should have called the owner but there is a grocery shop down the road - thank goodness!) . If you plan on cooking bring aluminum foil to line old and very used bakeware. The grill works but could have used a little cleaning. The coffee pot is small ( but the coffee cups are giant!!- one pot could almost fill a cup!!). There is not enough silverware for more than 4 people. There were only 3 wine glasses so bring your own if you are wine drinkers. The WiFi was sporadic- surely not the owner's fault- we did find that resetting the box helped reconnect. The shampoo and soap dispenser in the bathroom did not work till the end of the week- bring your own just in case. Hoping that this review does not sound too negative-- this was a good place to use as a base for our hiking trip. Would not suggest if you want to stay in or around the cabin. The owner did answer immediately when we called about the TV and helped trouble shoot our problem.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review, and we apologize for the unsettling feedback. We will take corrective action to resolve these. We have clear instructions for the cleaner to leave 3-5 rolls of toilet paper out, so we will see what happened there. We are wine drinkers, so we will get some more glasses. Guests break them now and then, but it's important that we replace what's missing or broken. While we love the cabin as a base for Mount St. Helens, we want to also promote local activities closer to the cabin. There are Zip Lines near Silver Lake, fishing charters for the Cowlitz River or Silver Lake, and downtown Castle Rock has a cute bakery/coffee shop and walking trail along the river. Of course none of these compare to the hiking trails of St. Helens or Cold Water Lake.
