Chris has extensive experience in owning a business, is a certified marine surveyor and takes charge of all maintenance and building repairs on the property. Linda helps run the office, marina, and housekeeping duties. Their combined dedication to customer service and hard work has helped expand and grow the business into a family friendly spot. Summer Vacation Home for Large Family

  • 5 of 5

In years past we had camped at Fair Haven State Park and so we were moderately familiar with the area and found it an enjoyable place to spend a week of summer vacation. Our needs changed including the need to check email daily and some older children no longer liked camping. So, we rented this little brick house and found it to be quite nice for a relaxing week.

The downstairs includes a living room, dining room, eat-in kitchen, and two full baths. Upstairs there is another full bath and four bedrooms: one with (3) single beds and three with double beds. Our large family of nine all had plenty of room for sleeping with plenty of personal privacy. All of the bathrooms have showers only, no tubs. Ample towels and linens were included.

The kitchen was well stocked with dishes (only glass), silverware, pots, pans, etc. We ate most breakfasts there as well as dinners. The house was clean but there are a lot of knick-knacks which we had to relocate because of our toddler. There is no crib or high chair - so if you have a baby, bring your own.

We took a number of day trips to places such as: Fair Haven State Park for swimming and boating; Oswego to visit Fort Ontario Park and Safe Haven Museum; Syracuse to visit the Museum of Science & Technology; Sodus Point Beach Park for swimming and picnic. We also spent a few afternoons just hanging out at the property.

On the property (which is really a mini-resort with a half dozen cabins and campers), there is a marina, a small beach for swimming, and a jungle gym for the kids. If you are a boating or fishing person, it's an ideal setup. There is also a fire pit (which we used one night) and a gas BBQ grill (which we used another night).

The owners were very friendly and helpful and addressed all of our needs.

PROS

- Lots of room for big group or large family

- Clean and homey

- Comforable beds

- Lots of towels and linens are included

- Well stocked kitchen

- Wi-Fi

- Nice area with lots of things to do

- Good management

- Plenty of parking

- Nice porch with wicker chairs

- Big yard for throwing the Frisbee

CONS

- Wi-Fi not that reliable (down a few times and had to be rebooted)

- The information binder is out of date

- It wasn't clear what was included (we used a paddle boat for no charge but were not sure about the canoes)

- a bit noisy on the weekends (some kind of band playing late into the night on Friday night)

- you have to troop downstairs to use (2) of the bathrooms (not very private)

Place for all interests

  • 5 of 5

We were fortunate to find such a perfect place on short notice. We could fit all the family members together in one place and not feel crowded or inconvenienced in the least. The porch gave us a great gathering place and we spent most of our time there, but the common rooms are spacious enough for the same use.The house has been meticulously restored and decorated. I am more the fisherman type so I would probably stay at one of the smaller, simpler cottages on my own, but I'm sure some of our group enjoyed the more luxurious atmosphere of this house.Since it is on the property of a working marina boating and fishing opportunities are close at hand, and it's interesting just to sit by the water and watch the coming and going. We will no doubt return.

Charming & Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We just returned on Sunday Sept 2 from a week spent at this brick house on Little Sodus Bay. It was the perfect spot for our day trips to nearby parks including Fair Haven Beach SP where we rented canoes and swam in Lake Ontario. We also managed a trip to Clayton, NY and the Thousand Islands areas and took in the Canal Fest in Oswego. The best part of the house was the porch. We enjoyed morning coffe and afternoon tea there with cookies from Fly by Night Cookie shop a bicycle ride away in Fair Haven. One night we had a campfire in the fire ring on the lawn and sang songs and enjoyed hot cocoa. Can't forget to mention the fresh baked doughnuts from the local store or the band concert on Saturday night at the Fair Haven town park. Accommodations were perfect. Having three bathrooms for 6 people was such an unexpected pleasure. Kitchen was spacious as was the dining room and living room. Overall a wonderful vacation week for the family.
