About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Rent our comfortable and restful cottage on one of the Top Ten Family beaches in the country (Conde Nast). The best feature of the cottage is the sunset view of the salt marsh from the sun-room. The separate downstairs game room with game tables/darts/video allow adults and kids to get away from each other. Dock on Canal allows easy Inter Coastal Waterway access.

Holden beach is 45 minutes south of Wilmington NC and 1 hour north of Myrtle Beach SC, 30 Minutes from Southport NC. There are wonderful restaurants and sightseeing in Wilmington. There is great shopping and night life in Myrtle Beach. Antiquing and car ferry access to NC Aquarium and historic Civil War site from Southport. Holden is a family friendly beach with wide sandy beaches and lots of shelling and good surf fishing and a fishing pier on the island. There are several seafood restaurants in the village and pizza and sandwich shops as well. There is a Walgreens and Food Lion in the town so grocery shopping is easy. There are delis that cater family meals too.

We rent Sunday to Sunday. Most beach rentals are Saturday to Saturday, so our renters miss the rush on check in day, and have fewer folks on the beach the Saturday before you leave, because they are checking out Saturday morning.

A cash deposit of $500 and Visa or Master Charge credit card for security against damage (we don't require a security deposit) will hold your reservation. Balance of rent is due two weeks before check-in.

If you have any questions, please send us an inquiry and we will respond by email, or call, if you give us your phone number.

What makes this house unique

We have always enjoyed watching the sunrise and set across the large salt marsh that can be seen from our sun room. We watch many types of birds and deer play in the marsh. We plan an annual treasure hunt with our grandchildren that includes clues over the island and prizes and ends at the inland waterway park at the end of our street. The children look forward to hunting or helping plan the hunt each year.

Absolutely Perfect!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a more accommodating vacation home or location!! TAX SHELTER is perfectly located and equipped with everything you will need for an exceptional family gathering! Felt right at home upon arrival. We stayed June 19th thru June 26th and never had any issues. Steve was great to work with and checked with us to make sure we arrived safely and were able to obtain access per the instructions which were easy and simple. Extremely spacious accommodations and well equipped. The photos of the property represent it accurately. The bedroom downstairs does not offer access to the main house but offers easy access to the garage or outside. Perfect for teenagers and/or young adults to have their own space. Most of our time was spent at the beach but when at the property, we lounged on the decks and hammock which are very spacious and relaxing. We will book this property again! Definitely a Gem!!! Thank You Steve for an amazing Family Vacation and Memories for a Lifetime!!

Second Time Around

  • 4 of 5

This was our second time at the TAX SHELTER. Our first time was in June of 2014, we loved it so much that we rebooked for this year. Steve was amazing to work with. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to cook meals for 10 people. The kids had plenty of games and toys to play with. The bedroom downstairs was awesome for privacy but you should know there is no access from the main house, 3 bedrooms upstairs and a pull out full size sofa. Beach access is a bit far if you have seniors with you, small children can ride in the wagon provided. We love this house.

After a well needed vacation and our first trip to Holden Beach, I can say this place hit all the needs and wants of my family of six. The property was well represented in its description and pictures. The kitchen was well stocked, the outside grill worked well even in the wind. The beds were comfortable and the game room was loaded with games - a nice bonus for the kids. We were able to enjoy the deck and hammock while the kids floated in the canal. We had a two minute walk to a small beach on the inter coastal waterway and a five minute walk to the beach access (this is with four kids in toe from ages 8 to 15).

The house was clean and well kept. Our kids are already asking when can we go back to the "Tax Shelter." Steve was easy to reach and prompt to all our requests.

If you are looking for a stress free place to stay, I would highly suggest this home.

The garage parking was a nice bonus along with all the beach goodies including a sand cart - the entire house leaves you in need of nothing but food, which you can get at Food Lion just across the bridge.

Lovely beach week

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week at Tax Shelter! A very nicely equipped house. We enjoyed the deck and the boat dock and the beds were very comfortable! I think though if you spend a lot of time together as a group the living space upstairs might feel tight. The boys enjoyed the game room but still preferred hanging out with everyone else. Also the bedroom downstairs is completely separate from the rest of the house. So you have to go outside to get to it. It creates a lot of privacy for whoever stays down there but it's good to know that ahead of time. We didn't read the description clearly enough. Lots of toys for little ones which we appreciated.

House with everything

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from renting this house and it was wonderful. This was our first trip to Holden but will not be our last. Steve was great to work with as we did a payment plan with him. The house has everything you need. You only need to bring a few clothes. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking. The beds are very comfortable and the house is very clean. Although the weather was not the best; rained a lot, the house has books, games and a covered back area to sit and enjoy the view. We also enjoyed fishing off the dock and even caught a few. We ate at Castaways Raw Bar one night which was downtown near the bridge; great service and great food. We also visited the Ice cream shop on the beach and it was good. Overall this is a great house and we had a great vacation! Highly recommend this house.

Excellent family vacation home.

  • 5 of 5

Our family has been going to Holden Beach since my 60 year old husband was 16. It is a week long family reunion. We get 4 homes each year. This home was very comfortable for entertaining our family group with the wonderful deck and canal yard. The game room was definitely a bonus as we love playing games. The view of the sunroom over the marsh in the mornings was one of my favorites. There is a nice park in walking distance on the ICW. Thanks to the owners for sharing their home with our family.
