Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 5-6)

A delightful retreat awaits for the person or family who rents this camp for a long weekend, week or even the season!

Nestled in the Adirondack Park on the winding Black Creek is a cozy cabin for all seasons. A slight walk down a private path and you can launch a canoe from the landing or troll for fish from a rowboat while you cruise along the winding creek, while looking at the abundant wildlife or maybe even catching enough fish for dinner.

During the summer month you are a short drive to the State Park on Hinckley Lake for swimming or sunbathing. Old Forge, Water Safari and a climb up Bald Mountain are an hours drive away. Fall, you just need to sit on the deck and see miles of gorgeous NY State finest foliage. Winter months skiers will take advantage of how close they are to McCauley Mountain, Snow Ridge and Gore Mountain. They are within driving distance for a day on the slopes. Snowmobilers are 500 feet from the snowmobile trails maintained by the Ohio Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club.

The open floor plan of this cabin allows everyone to be part of the action. The cabin comes completely equipped, however renters must bring bed linens. A wood burning stove provides atmosphere and additional warmth during the winter months or on a chilly Fall evening. The combination living room/dinning room area and kitchen offer a beautiful view of the sunset, the ravine bordering the creek and the starry moonlit sky at night. A large, comfortable screen porch is a great place to sit in the rocking chair or on the glider with a good book. It's also a great place for a card game or puzzle making. The deck faces the south, which offers a private place for tanning and for passive solar heat in the winter months.

If there is a gambler in the crowd, Turning Stone Casino is an hours drive west on Route 365.

About Kelli Grimaldi-Vance

My grandfather built the Family Camp in 1936. Nestled above the Black Creek in the Town of Grant it was a rustic summer home for my father and his 3 brothers and sisters and my grandparents. There are many wonderful childhood, into adult memories contained within its walls. Laughter of children at play, adults sharing a game of pinochle or just sitting reading a good book. When my Dad was a kid he remembers going down to the 'fishing place' for a swim and to tease the girl cousins that were in swimming. My dad was the youngest of the cousins, so that was his job to tease the girl cousins. The camp has grown-up over the years with many improvements. In the past 5 years or so my father have been painstakingly renovating, which is one of his many hobbies, with the idea of renting it out. It has become much more than a summer place of refuge and adventure. There are many things that prospective renters can look forward to do at Black Creek Landing. Renters can spend their time fishing in the Black Creek, canoeing or row-boating down it's quiet waters. There is even enough land to ride ATV's. In the winter months the renters can cross-country ski, toboggan down the hill to the creek and snowmobile along the many trails nearby. If you close your eyes and think of a place to go where all is right with the world, 'Black Creek Landing' is the place to be any time of the year.

Why Kelli Grimaldi-Vance chose Cold Brook

It was left to my father and his siblings by my grandparents after their deaths. About 5 years ago my father's siblings came to him and offered their shares to him because they didn't want the responsibility of ownership any longer. They knew how much he loved the 'Camp' so it wasn't a difficult offer for him to accept.

What makes this cabin unique

The tranquil & peaceful surrounding of the Northern air is the best 'medicine' after a long stressful week of whatever you may do in the City you're from. I guarantee it!

This is a great place to stay if you love the Adirondacks and want to be surrounded by nature and beauty. This was my second time staying at Black Creek Landing and I feel very at home and comfortable there. The owners are very pleasant and take care to make sure our stay was enjoyable.

Great kayaking

  • 4 of 5

The cabin/cottage was in need of a few little repairs. Otherwise, the property towards the creek is beautiful! There is a large wooded area, a great view and wonderful kayaking . You can kayak a long ways on Black Creek. We chose to go away from Hinkley Resevoir upstream. I got great pictures of the wild nature, herons and other interesting birds. We relaxed and let the stream carry us back while we ate lunch. The price of the cabin was very reasonable and there is a lot to do inside on rainy days - games, game room, books, etc. We sat on the deck at night watching the stars and listening to the coyotes howl.

Comfortable quiet cabin with great amenities

  • 5 of 5

Black creek landing is the perfect combination of cozy and spacious. It is well stocked complete with a game room we thoroughly enjoyed, a row boat and canoe, and a bbq deck along with an assortment of movies and plenty of couches to enjoy. Truly a wonderful place for a family getaway and exceeded our expectations. The owners are very responsive and a pleasure to rent from. (Practical note: For those who need WiFi it may not be available. We had great ATT reception but not for Verizon.)

Lovely weekend getaway with family

  • 5 of 5

Lots of space for my family. Enjoyed all of the comforts of home including great kitchen space, game tables, and DVD/VHS player. Had a nice time making smores, playing board games, and spending quality family time together. FYI - cell service is spotty so make sure you write down directions before arriving!

A quiet and beautiful birder's paradise

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is stunning and has been well preserved to retain the original charm with which it was built. On top of that, the place is a birder's paradise. I observed so many different varieties of birds here flitting back and forth from the numerous birdfeeders stationed around the cottage. I ended up seeing an Eastern Bluebird, a Chipping Sparrow, a Gray Catbird, an American Goldfinch, a crow, a Turkey Vulture, a Red-bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Wood-Pewee, and, my prized sighting, a Belted Kingfisher. Somewhere along the way I gave up keeping track. Robins are the commonest of birds here; there are at least three perched somewhere on the landing at any one time.

The view from the cottage facing southwest was particularly mesmerizing. I found myself distracted every time I passed the enormous array of windows looking out over a vast expanse of treetops. To top it off, the Grimaldis were very warm and hospitable people. I loved my stay here and hope to return in the near future.
