About Elena or Craig
This is a genuine family business run by me, my husband and children. We are more than happy to help you plan your trip and make the most of our wonderful city.
Elena or Craig purchased this House in 2009
Why Elena or Craig chose St. George
Our row of eight Victorian homes stretching up a steep hill above the harbor is a unique architectural phenomenon for New York City. Trees tower above you and cool breezes blow on those hot summer nights. Many of the neighboring houses are owned by the Ganas Community, a modern commune, which gives our block a particular friendly, easygoing atmosphere. You are in your own world, but the city is at your doorstep. And instead of riding the subway, you get to sail across the harbor, watch the skyscrapers loom out of the horizon, and the Statue of Liberty so close you could almost touch it.

First vacation to New York
The property is just as it was described. The stairs are very well explained. They are steep! Communication was great. My only complaint would have been about garbage accommodations but that was addressed when we mentioned it. The clear (for recycling) and black (for garbage) bags were not available but were addressed in communication. The garbage was not picked up on Sunday as indicated, but I don't always get my garbage out when I am supposed to either. Elena and Craig were great about communicating with us before and during the trip. Plenty of room for our family of nine and very comfortable. We had my husband and I, our daughter and her partner and five grandkids from 3-22. I would suggest buying the 7 day unlimited Metro Card if you will be there for a bit. It is only $34 and we only discovered it by accident, but it was a real value! Everyone we met was very friendly and willing to help us tourist to figure out the public transit system (that was my greatest concern about this vacation) If we make a trip to New York again, we will most certainly book this home again.
Great location, perfect home!
Thank you for letting us stay in your home! We loved the location and the neighborhood. House was perfect for our needs!
Enjoyed my stay....
The steps were a bit steep for luggage and groceries, there were no face towels and ran out of toilet tissue, but the stay was very nice and location was great. Enjoyed our stay.
Hosts respond immediately to any questions you may have. Thank you very much we had a wonderful time on our 1st trip to new york!!!!!!
We enjoyed staying in this beautiful Hilltop Victorian Home while visiting the city of New York. Although I brought many items with me (due to previous stays elsewhere), it was not needed - the owners provided everything! And they have local stores right around the corner, plus pizza delivery was awesome for those late & exhausted nights! Parking was never an issue. Very peaceful and quiet and the "adult" children enjoyed the swing! It is an older home but spacious & roomy! We were very comfortable and Craig & Helena were quick to answer any questions/issues we had. It is a great home away from home. If you are unable to handle steps or hills, this is not the place to stay. Walking to the ferry was no problem, however, if you are choosing to walk everywhere in the city, choose to pay the CHEAP $8 ALL DAY parking fee at the ferry terminal. We walked the 1st 2 days and decided climbing the hill in the evening was too exhausting for us after a day in the Big Apple :D Thanks for a great stay & visit!
long weekend in NY
Old home, not great condition, but provided sufficient space for 7 of us - 2 couples and 3 other adults.
Entry is a bit treacherous, especially in wet weather - multiple short sections of stairs, all of which could use improvement. Parking is on street below, so you have to carry everything up the exterior stairs.
Kitchen not well set up - lack of utensils, pots and pans, etc. I believe we had some problems w/stove.
Flying insects in basement level. Landlord made suggestion on how to address, didn't really resolve the issue.
Location convenient to Staten Island ferry.
Our neighborhood is known as either downtown Staten Island or St. George --, a lively, "up-and-coming" diverse area across New York Bay from Lower Manhattan. You can meet people from all over the planet within a few blocks, and taste their foods for a reasonable price. Then hop on the Ferry to see the sights. If you enjoy an urban setting where people of different skin colors and economic levels live close together (in harmony), you will fit right in.
