About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Located in desirable Birch Point. Close to historical downtown Bath, many restaurants, shopping or just strolling down the historic cobblestone streets. 30 minutes to Freeport outlets (L.L. Bean) less than one hour to Portland. Easy drive from Boston.

If you enjoy boating you can rent one at the New Meadows Marina or bring your own. The cottage has a great dock and mooring. Shoot out to Casco Bay, Cundy’s Harbor, or have lunch at the Sabasco Resort (you can dive over as well). Lots of islands and coast to explore and see.

You can see Mid Cost Maine by land or sea or just sit on the deck near the water and watch the boats pass by. Whatever you do you will want to return.

A little paradise

  • 5 of 5

We spent ten days at Birch Point at the end of May with our three kids (all below 4 years old). The property turned out even better than on the pictures, making it an ideal retreat for families with young children; it's very well equipped, incredibly clean and well thought. Most of all, the view is breathtaking. Jon Leaver was always super helpful and diligent in answering all our questions. Overall, this was an ideal stay. We definitely recommend this property for vacations outside of the world ... we came back to NYC fully rejuvenated!

Idyllic retreat

  • 5 of 5

Birch Point is close to ideal. It's secluded and off the beaten path, yet still proximate to all the local attractions (Popham Beach, Bath and its shops, Reid State Park, etc). The house itself is perfect for a small family, and its water views are ever-changing: watch the fog roll in or out, watch the tides transform the vista, watch bald eagles, herons, and lobster boats ply the coves. (On a more practical level, all the necessary amenities are here, including a washer/dryer.) The deck is perfect for peaceful dinners overlooking the water. The neighbors are not just friendly but welcoming to visitors, while also being respectful of your privacy. The true Maine spirit here.

Lovely cottage in Maine

  • 4 of 5

We had such a wonderful time in our cottage in West Bath! My husband and I really got to relax, unwind, and enjoy the beautiful scenery that this rental had to offer. It is remarkably well located and offered easy commute to everything we wanted from South Portland to Camden. The dock wasn't completely in the water yet, perhaps because we were early in the season. The cottage comes equipped with everything you need to enjoy a very comfortable stay. It would have been perfect if kayaks were on premises, but they are close by for rental.

Lovely Setting

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a two week stay at Birch Point and feel rested and rejuvenated. The property is nicely decorated and well suited for our family (grandparents and two grand children). The kids spent most of the time outdoors, either in the tree house or hanging out on the dock fishing.

The dock came in handy for our kayak. The neighbors were very friendly and helpful, providing suggestions for shops and activities.

We found the cottage a good base for daily activities such as Reid State Park, Portland Sea Dogs game, and the Maritime Museum in Bath.

A very positive experience for all of us.

Wonderful Place! The cottage was well maintained, clean and spacious. I was visiting with my wife and two kids, ages 5 and 7. The tree fort provided hours of fun for my kids. The scenery was beautiful, with eagles nesting nearby, lobster boats out front and various species of ducks swimming around. The cottage is nestled amongst the woods which provided peace and quiet but yet close enough to beaches, historic villages and fresh sea food. We were lucky enough to meet our neighbors that were kind and gracious from the moment we arrived. They welcomed us into there lives and provided us with great ideas to do around Maine. There was also another neighbor that provided fresh lobster to us one night that was caught right out in front of the cottage...pretty cool!

We visited Booth Bay, Bradbury State Park, Freeport, Reid State Park and Popham Beach which was all less then an hours drive. Popham Beach was by far our favorite. Expansive beaches with beautiful scenery supplied endless fun for our family. Maine is such a wonderful place and the people were extremely friendly. We hated to leave but will definitely return, especially to this cottage. The cottage provided just the right amount of amenities and the washer/dryer was a plus.

Thanks again to the owners and property management for a wonderful vacation!

Not Ideal

  • 2 of 5

The view is lovely and Bath is a neat little town; we really enjoyed Popham and Reid State Parks.Plus the neighbors are lobstermen who are willing to share and the property managers are very nice and accomodating.

That said, the cottage is very rustic with basic amenities and was stiflingly hot in the summer heat. We found that we had find activities elsewhere during the hottest hours of the day.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed Bath and the surrounding parks and beaches. Unfortunately Maine can be unpredictably hot and humid during the peak summer season. The home does boast large windows to maintain a cross breeze in the home. With that being said, we can work on getting some large fans to keep on site to help circulate the air. We also provide a list of area activities on site to help plan for rainy and hot days. Again, we value your feedback, and thank you for being great guests. 3/18/15 **Update - The owner is insulating the entire ceiling this season and will be closing it off with a nice wood paneling. The owner is adding interior ceiling fans and new lighting. Two older windows are being replaced. All of these additions will really help the temperature within the home even on the rare hot and humid days Maine gets once in a while.
