What makes this house unique

We enjoy going out for an early morning kayak then sitting on the dock enjoying coffee. Fishing in the afternoon then watching the sunset from the end of the dock. We usually finish the day with smores around the campfire.

Each time we stay there, it is better than the last time. You actually don't need a boat, nice big slab sunfish right off the dock.

Bass & Grouse

  • 5 of 5

This was our 4th year staying here for the fall. Joy makes it feel like home and she is like family to us. We caught some nice lg bass, up to 20" even in the wind. The cabin is great. My wife came for the 1st time and really liked the area and the cabin. The dockage is deep enough for my 19' boat, the grouse are plentiful ( had 1 in the driveway) this year. Colors were beautiful, just turning. We'll be back next season, if not sooner.

An anniversary to remember

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I just returned from a week at this cottage, where we celebrated 14 yrs of marriage. We got lucky w/the weather, having sunshine & upper 70's-low 80's on 4 of the days. Thank you Mother Nature!

The cottage itself was perfect for the 2 of us having 2 bedrooms & 1 bath. There is carpeting in the bedrooms only. Heat is supplied by gas fireplace in the living room (+kitchen & dining room - all 1 room) and electric heating elements on the walls in the bedrooms & bathroom. I found the cottage to be cold as it does not get much direct sunlight so I utilized the heat & it worked well.

The cottage has cable tv (+dvd/blue ray player) & wifi which allowed for us to stay current w/family going ons & work.

The kitchen is equipped w/most essentials & the fridge is full sized. We cooked over half our meals at the cottage & if I'd give any suggestions (& it's minor) it would be to have some smaller plates & to replace the plastic plates/bowls.

The mud room is spacious & is an excellent place to store coats, coolers & for doing laundry of course.

The pier is very close to the house & it has 4 bouys so you can pull your boat right up w/little to no set up depending on your boat size. You can walk into the water & wade around but bring your aqua socks as there are snails blanketing the bottom. The water was cool in May but it was 80 degrees so I went in up to my thighs & did some casting. Caught a lovely crappie that day. If fishing is your thing then I'd recommend Nelson Lake. Watch for tree stumps & limbs - your navigation system should have them detailed. Other than that it's a beautiful lake full of crappie, blue gill, walleye & my fav large mouth bass. I caught plenty and released them all so you can take a shot at catching them when you get here!

Thank you Joy for sharing your cottage w/us and for getting that extension cord so we could charge our boat motors. Really appreciated that. We'll be back!

Great first trip!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect spot for our first vacation with our toddler. We were able to wade in the water (and use the paddle boat!) right from the edge, which was great. The view from the dock and backyard is great - we saw some beautiful sunsets. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't with us most of the week, but there was plenty to do in town and inside the cabin. And everything we could possibly need for cooking was there, which was much appreciated. For future visitors - check out Hayward's Main Street shopping area and Old Southern BBQ. We also enjoyed the local summer flea market and hiking at Hatchery Creek Park. Joy was a great help in lending us a pack and play and for locating a pontoon rental (though we didn't utilize, due to the rain). I would recommend this rental to anyone looking to get away to a nice lake where you want to sit and watch the sunset with a nice fire. :-)

July 2015

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. We caught lots of crappie's & sunfish off the dock, and enjoyed the kayak & paddle boat. The cabin is well stocked and has all the comforts of home. We enjoyed taking walks to the damn, watching the eagles on the lake, and getting daily visits from a family of ducks.

Labor Day Weekend 2014

  • 5 of 5

Definitely consider this property for your vacation hangout. The first time I stayed at this property (which is a beautiful lake home) was in 2009 and I was pleased to see it continues to offer all the conveniences of home, is still a very clean property and is a quiet location for fishing, sleeping, walking, biking, etc. The owners are wonderful, they are very friendly, kind and helpful. The weather this year was unpredictable but regardless, the time away and in such a great spot (Hayward on the lake) made the experience priceless.
