About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms (Sleeps 4) 1 Bath (for shower only)

Thank you for looking at my VRBO site. This is a very nice house. Guests nearly always tell me that my photos and description do not do the house justice. I agree with them and often get into a discussion about updating my description. We all agree that it's difficult to describe and is quite something to be experienced. The view is amazing. The construction details are very creative. The layout is superb. The kitchen and furnishings make the home very comfortable. Below is what I've always had as a description but thought I'd add a preface.

Beautiful custom 4-season home with stunning view perched on a mountainside at 1,000 ft. above Rosario Straight near Moran State Park, with unobstructed views to the south and east . The multi-level wrap-around deck provides many angles from which to take in the scenery, watching either the sunrise or the orange glow of sunset reflected on the snow covered slopes of Mt. Baker or bare cliffs of Cypress Island. Full moons are mesmerizing here as they rise and reflect on the water. The house is enjoyable throughout the year from hunkering down with a fire during storm season to expanded living spaces outdoors during the warmer months. The house was built and designed for contemporary function with a rustic feel. It is well equipped with many modern comforts for the enjoyment of your short or long-term stay, such as Wi-Fi, flat screen TV and Blue-Ray DVD player, stainless kitchen appliances such as a Miele dishwasher, Thermador range, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, microwave oven, TV in bunk room with built-in DVD and VHS players, and the log-framed king size bed is an extra perk.

The character cabinetry is locally made from recycled wood and is built-in throughout the house. The vaulted ceilings covered with pine, the log interior posts and wood beams blend well with outside surroundings. This house is located on 20 mostly forested acres that is shared by the owner's main house. Both homes enter/exit the property on a mutually shared driveway that splits off to each house.

The kitchen is stocked with a full set of Circulon pots and pans as well as Cuisinart stainless steel, and casserole cookware. Several pyrex bowls and pans include lids for storage. Everything listed including dishes, glassware, eating, and cooking utensils were purchased new for the cabin and are in great condition. Additional bed and bath linens can be provided for longer stays. Flannel sheets are kept on the beds during the Fall and Winter along with down alternative comforters and quilts.

Telescope is available for terrestrial and celestial viewing. Table-top art easels are available for those who might like to paint or draw - so bring your supplies! The picnic table on the deck in front of the living room is a great place to express your inner artist.

Orcas Island has many hiking trails. Several are located only a few miles away in Moran State Park. The public beach area at Cascade Lake has peddle and row boat rentals during the Summer. The park also has sheltered areas that can be reserved for large parties that contain big, stone fireplaces and wood stoves (also enjoyable in the Fall and Winter). Hiking is open year-round at the park. Nearby Obstruction Pass State Park has trails leading down to a beach area.

People that enjoy staying in this peaceful and secluded house treasure the commanding view that looks out to acres of evergreen trees, water, islands, and mountains in the distance. Although the house is remote, Eastsound is only a 7 mile drive. There one will find several restaurants, shops, gas stations, a movie theater, and a large grocery store. In the opposite direction are restaurants in Olga and Doe Bay and Obstruction Pass State Park.

This property is an approximate 30 minute drive from the ferry landing and approximately 15 minutes from Eastsound.

Wow Beautiful

This is one of those places that is, without a doubt, unique in the world. The house is very private, quiet, and relaxing - that is what my wife Kim and I really liked. The appliances are top notch, the kitchen is well appointed, the bed is very comfortable, and most importantly the host, Michele, is amazing. The house has views that are second to none. We are looking forward to staying here again.

Peaceful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We definitely got it. This house sits perched high up on a hill in the forest with an amazing view. It's far enough that you feel secluded, but a close enough drive to any part of Orcas. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. Michele was very friendly and quick to respond to all our inquiries.

We were on Orcas island during a very rainy weekend and had to spend a lot of time inside. We chose the right house for the occasion. The house is comfortable, relaxing and beautiful. We felt like the rain and the house made the weekend all the more relaxing for us. Michele is a friendly and attentive host.

This was our first trip to Orcas Island and I hope it won't be our last. The home is truly beautiful and comfortable. There were three of us, my husband, teenage son, and myself and we loved the cottage. The location is very private, yet it is not difficult to get anywhere you might want to go on the island. We enjoyed restaurants in Eastsound, traveled to Deer Harbor for a kayak tour, drove out to hike at Obstruction Point State Park, and we also spent time hiking in Moran State Park which is very close to the house. The owner is very gracious and helpful, she reminded me via e-mail about the new reservation system for the ferry, which had slipped my mind.

Peaceful, gorgeous House

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house and really hated to leave. It has a fabulous view that we enjoyed from most rooms of the house. It is well equipped, clean, open and comfy.

It was a beautiful drive up to the house and our first morning out caught sight of a wobbly baby deer and moma crossing road. Once you arrive you might not want to leave. We stayed in 1 day and never left just read & enjoyed the quiet and solitude. We did whale watching and took a day sail on a 2 masted Schooner "Spike Africa".

We Enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Out host was wonderful; brought us fresh salad out of her garden that was tasty!

We sampled several local eating places and food was always farm to table fresh.

I can't say enough about this house. Would certainly come again. I would give it a 10 star rating if I could. The sofa is a nice comfy new leather too.

Just perfect!

I agree with previous reviews, this house is much more beautiful than the photos let on. The place is absolutely picturesque in the heart of the forest with a wrap-around deck and huge windows which take advantage of the incredible view. It's warm, comfortable and spacious and encourages a sense of calm not often found. It's very generously equipped with bits a pieces to help make your stay simple.

Thank you for letting us stay on your property; it's a part of the world not to be missed and we will be back!
