About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

Lovely two-level house on Little Pleasant Bay in Orleans, MA. 1000 feet of salt-water river and Bay frontage- instant access for kayaking or swimming. It offers pristine views of the Bay and Kent's Point Nature Preserve, with a large yard and gardens. Fresh water swimming in Pilgrim Lake (great for young children) is just a short walk. Dine or just relax on the screened porch. The layout affords lots of privacy for multiple families on two (and a half) levels.

Explore the sand roads and the Preserve's hiking trails. This home is a Nature Lovers' Dream. Yet, Orleans Center with great shopping, dining, theater and the Rail Trail is a 10 minute bike ride and Nauset Beach is just 10 minutes from the house as well. Everything that is wonderful about Cape Cod is just outside your door.

Our guests love this house for family reunions because it has plenty of separate spaces for large and small group relaxing. Our fully furnished house easily welcomes 10-12 people with ample kitchen utensils and service items, a variety of comfortable beds and ample bathrooms, 2 flat screen TVs (with cable and wi-fi), a washer and dryer, clothesline, air conditioning in each of the bedrooms and a central unit for the large open living area, outdoor rinse-off shower and a new gas grill. Our kitchen has everything you need including a new gas stove and new refrigerator. The screened porch is perfect for sunrise quiet and sunset celebration. Bright, private and beautifully furnished with original artwork, this house is a true vacation retreat.

The open first floor layout includes two dining areas, the kitchen and living room. A full bathroom off the living room area serves a bedroom with Queen Bed and another room with Twins (which can covert to a King if desired) and a sleep couch. The Master Suite has a sitting area, its own full bathroom, walk in closet and King Bed. The lower level (which has a separate entrance from the back yard if desired) has two bedrooms and one bathroom with a shower. One of the bedrooms has a Queen Bed and the other has a Full Bed and a Twin Bed. Each of the bedrooms is quite spacious and has plenty of windows as well as air conditioning units.

What you will need: You will need to bring your own sheets, pillowcases and bath/beach towels. You can also choose to rent these from our local source. We generally have a full stock of kitchen herbs and spices, coffee filters, garbage bags and cleaning supplies. We also provide gas for the grill and there is always a full backup tank.

About Susan Goldman

Our family moved to the Cape in the early sixties when my parents purchased an empty property in Orleans. That property became Tree's Place, one of the premiere gift shops/art galleries on the Cape. The house that we now offer for rental was our family home until recently. It began as two camp cabins and has experienced a number of renovations over the years. We love the house and spend as much time as we can there.

Susan Goldman purchased this house in 1967

Why Susan Goldman chose Cape Cod

We can't imagine a better place to vacation than our house. It is a peaceful retreat. It's arms are large enough to embrace multiple families without crowding. We have left evidence of our parents' very creative lives throughout the house. Our mother's paintings and prints (and those of her friends) hang everywhere and shelves with our father's books and short stories are available for all to appreciate.

What makes this house unique

When we are at the house, it feels like we are completely in nature. Geese honking down the river, boats quietly skimming by and the lovely scents of trees in bloom... This is a unique older piece of Cape Cod and we love hearing how others truly appreciate its special quality.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our week at your wonderful Cape home is about to end. We have had fabulous weather and have kept very busy

with various activities with our sons and grandchildren. The little grandkids loved looking for "creatures" at Skaket, several town landings, and swimming at Crystal Lake. The layout of the house is perfect for our family. Space to be

together, and space to escape for a quiet time. We loved the view from the porch and ate most meals there. We all had a restful vacation and hope to return next summer the same week. We will be in touch when the time comes to secure a week for 2012. We have friends and family who live in Orleans and Eastham so we always enjoy coming to the Cape to see them.

most restful vacation

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed here before and it was just as I remembered - beautiful, tranquil, restful; yet, the opportunities and activities are endless. We played miniature golf, went to several local beaches, the closest of which, Pilgrim Lake, is within walking distance, even with the young children whom we had along. Many good local restaurants, though the kitchen facilities at the house are excellent, and you can't beat eating on the screened-in porch overlooking the tidal river. We had three generations of family along, including two four year olds and an infant. The layout of the bedrooms is such that the older members could retire to theirs for peace and quiet when the children became too much of a good thing. The owner quick to reply to any questions, and we had no problems at all during our stay. We would heartily recommend staying at the Goldman house and hope to return often to this wonderful place, which is maintained with all the charm of a family house, well-loved.

Location, Comfort, Convenience

  • 5 of 5

This home has it all. The location is fantastic. Water out back so easy to put Kayaks in for a run. Little Pleasant Bay is viewed from the back porch/yard. Very close to Crystal and Pilgrim Lakes. We really liked Crystal Lake. Couple minutes ride to Nauset or Skaket Beaches.

Comfort - Beds were all comfortable; chairs and tables all sturdy; A/C by room when needed; wonderful screened porch with plenty of chairs and a large table.

Conveniences: Washer and Dryer, Dishwasher and all the cooking tools you need. This home had everything we needed.

Special thanks to Susan (the owner). Owner always easy to reach and very helpful. My daughter left her wallet. Susan emailed me when found but we were already back in Maryland. Susan had her team overnight asap. We are very thankful!

Rented several houses on the Cape over the last 20 years and would say this one is on top. One of the reasons I rented this was due to a comment someone mentioned about the screen porch. It really is a nice relaxing place to hang out. We visited Aug 13th week. There were very few mosquitoes due to drought. So we actually spent a lot of time in the chairs outside looking over the water. There always seemed to be someone in the family sitting on the back porch.

We rented Kayaks for the week. The house is a great place to launch from. Do research beforehand as kayak rental was expensive.

We enjoyed the house and had a great week!

Best location on the Cape

  • 5 of 5

This is a very comfortable and large house for a group. We had 3 generations and had plenty of space in this beautiful spot on Little Pleasant Bay. We especially loved the large table in the dinning area and the one on the screened in porch where we could all eat together. This house is a few minutes away from a fresh water lake and less than 10 minutes from Nauset and Skaket beaches. It is also 10 minutes from the rail trail. You can also swim or Kayak ( we brought our own ) right out the back of the house. Pretty much everything else is within a half hour or so drive, especially great is the National Seashore sites.

If you are quiet in the morning you can watch the great blue herring and osprey fishing in the Bay from the back porch. I would eat breakfast each morning and watch the wildlife.

One last thing, don't miss Kent's Point hike which is just down the road. It is great walk which is right across the way from the house. At the end you can see out the Bay to the ocean.

Spacious family home in lovely setting

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week at this property. The view is fabulous and location is great. We rented kayaks for the week and enjoyed exploring the area by sea. While this well-loved family home has few updates, the kitchen was very well stocked for cooking. The spacious bedrooms are located on two floors and there is ample common area and seating. We had several families with kids of various ages coming and going over the week and we never felt crowded. We spent much of our time on the screened-in porch. The kids loved Pilgrim Lake an easy bike ride from the house.
