About Jon & Cathie Ulanch

We just had to visit once to fall in love with the white sand beaches and friendly atmosphere. We knew Grand Haven was the right town for us immediately. We enjoy taking in the beauty of the changing seasons and the variety of outdoor sports and activities! 5-Star Rated Accommodations..... the Retreat at 302 opened in 2006 to offer the type of cottage experience that we enjoy when we travel...the more stars the better!!

Jon & Cathie Ulanch purchased this house in 2006

Why Jon & Cathie Ulanch chose Grand Haven

This downtown Grand Haven location is the perfect mix of close proximity to activities, shops & beaches, but in a terrific neighborhood on a quiet street. We were excited to find just exactly the best combination of premium location and wonderful renovation. We loved the hardwood floors, arched doorway, great floor plan and nice room sizes. (and it was in excellent condition...super clean!)

What makes this house unique

You'll see why we chose this cottage...just stroll out the front door and take in Grand Haven!

Great Downtown Grand Haven Location!

Great location with all the extras

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice first trip to Grand Haven. The house was very clean and tidy with everything we needed for a stay with 2 babies (2 years and 9 mo). They had booster seats, high chairs, plastic plates and cups, beach toys, etc. The house also had beach towels and plenty of bath towels along with hand and dish soap and detergent - not something you always have in rentals. The location to town was perfect. We walked the 2 short blocks to town a couple times a day. Very nice visit.

Great place to vacation!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here in late August and September for ten days. The house is very nice and clean and the kitchen includes a dishwasher and a Keurig. The basement has a washer and dryer and there is a garage with about six bicycles and other vacation "stuff" in it. The large deck was nice with a lot of chairs and two large tables. One night we had about 20 people over for a barbecue and we all fit just fine. The grille worked great! The location is to die for. You can easily walk to the coffee shops for breakfast and to the musical fountain after dinner. The owner is very nice and although the house is old (almost all of the houses in the area are old) it is well maintained. We would stay there again.

Clean Property with Great Location AND Great Amenities!!

  • 5 of 5

We honestly could not have been happier with the Retreat at 302. It was such a peaceful, relaxing vacation thanks in large part to our stay here. The garage was filled with bikes (adult and children's) and beach toys for our 2 little girls (2) and (4). The kitchen is fully stocked for any cooking or cocktails that you might want. The A/C worked, the beds were comfortable, and MOST IMPORTANT to most people who read this review, the house was VERY clean inside and out.

Every night we would put the kids down for bed and then enjoy peaceful nights out on the wrap around deck with drinks and music. The amazing part is that we never got eaten alive by mosquitoes like we do back home.

As far as location, this house cannot be beat. We were biking distance to Grand Haven State Park for swimming at the beach and to the popular wooden playground at Mulligan's Hollow. As far as Washington Street downtown, you are literally walking distance (2 blocks) from all of the restaurants and shops.

Finally, Jon called us before we got too far away to let us know that one of our girls had left a stuffed animal behind. He had it waiting for us when we came back. Jon and Cathy were very professional, easy to work with, and they made our experience easy and enjoyable! I would definitely recommend this property to others, and we will inquire again, the next time we're back in the area.

We loved our stay!

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is in the perfect location for a walk to downtown Grand Haven or to the harbor- Dairy Treat was a nightly event! The cottage itself was super clean, well stocked, and had all the amenities you would need to make a week long stay easy. Plus it was just super adorable. The owners are so responsive with any questions or concerns. It is apparent they work very hard to make each vacationers visit as hassle-free as possible. We went to several different beaches, but mostly the Grand Haven State Park Beach out of convenience. It was not my favorite - often overcrowded, trash leftover from previous visitors, etc. Go to the far side close to the rentals and the city park. It is a lot less crowded and cleaner.

The only downside to the cottage is there is only one bathroom. It is pretty spacious though. It was clean, light, tastefully decorated and there were plenty of towels. For our family of four it was just fine. I guess it would just require a bit of coordination for larger groups...

Thank you for sharing your retreat with us. We have so many fun memories from our time there!

Beautifully decorated home with everything provided that you could need! They even had fans in each bedroom upstairs! Loved having dinner outside on the deck, and enjoyed reading outside on the porch!
