The Hideaway

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

This secluded cottage is located directly on the Withlacoochee River, designated an 'Outstanding Florida Waterway'. Our newly renovated cottage features a large well stocked kitchen, dining and living areas with cathedral ceiling, and two cozy bedrooms. The screened porch is just feet from the river complete with palm trees and old cypress.

A nature lovers paradise where you can view manatees, otters, turtles, many varieties of birds, and an occasional alligator or dolphin. Bring your boat and cruise down the scenic river to the Gulf of Mexico. There is plenty of room to park your trailer or RV. Swim in the river or adjacent lagoon where you might encounter a napping manatee, or use our kayaks or canoe to paddle back to 'Old Florida'. Fish from the private dock or during season, harvest scallops in near by Crystal River

The perfect place to get away from it all, but close enough to enjoy a day trip to Tampa Bay, or several Florida attractions like Silver Springs, Homosassa Springs, or Weeki Wachee. Walking, bike, and equestrian trails are minutes away at the Cross Florida Greenway where you will also find a boat ramp to the Gulf of Mexico. Antique shops, golfing, and spas are located nearby. Beautiful Lake Rousseau is minutes away with some of the best bass fishing in the area. Watch mullet or tarpon jumping directly from the dock located at the cottage.

About Freda Nichols

We purchased our riverfront property next door in 2005. We love the quiet and secluded setting and find it relaxing just watching the river flow by. We enjoy watching all the wildlife, kayaking, and boating on the river and the gulf. The lagoon separating the property is a favorite spot for manatee to rest and birds to fish. We purchased the cottage in 2009 so we could share this little piece of paradise with family and friends. We hope you enjoy all 'The Nature Coast' has to offer.

Freda was fantastic! I'm so glad she shares her cottage with others. It was such a great experience and sooo relaxing. Such a change of scenery from the busy, loud and crazy city. My husband and I enjoyed a week there and we hope to return next year. Thanks Freda for everything!!!

Truly a piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

When I read other people's reviews on this property I thought they were waxing poetic and over doing it...But after staying in the Hideaway all I can say is read the glowing reviews!! They are all correct. The cottage is beautiful and cozy and has everything (I mean this) that you could want. I spent 8 days here and saw dolphins, turtles, bobcat poop, manatee, owls, Kite birds, Pileated woodpeckers, cute little lizards and dad saw some otters too. There is a canoe and two kayaks for your use. If you want a quiet place to enjoy nature and yourself the Hideaway is your place...I am definitely returning!!! Thank you Freda!!!!

Our stay at The Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Spent one week relaxing at the Hideaway. We agree with the other reviews that its a quiet retreat. Freda was excellent to work with. Had all the amenities we needed. We saw a variety of wildlife from the dock including manatee, dolphins, turtles, alligators, and birds. If you are looking for a quiet, serene location to totally relax, this is the place for you. Different things to do and see within an hour drive.

Great location, great cottage!

  • 5 of 5

It’s easy to explore the area from this location. It’s just a short drive to the Gulf or the springs at Crystal River, Homosassa and Rainbow River. But spending time at the cottage is wonderful, too. The “Hideaway” is the perfect name. It has a secluded feel and it’s so peaceful. Some of our favorite times were spent relaxing on the dock or screened porch. The screened porch is only briefly pictured but it was my favorite spot. It has seating for lounging, table and chairs for eating and two ceiling fans. Watching the wildlife on the river was also amazing. Plus it’s so nice to have available a canoe or the kayaks to paddle the Withlacoochee.

I have never stayed in a rental so carefully furnished. The décor is charming with some unique pieces. But what really set it apart was how thoughtfully each room was outfitted. For instance, though the bedrooms were cozy in size, each had a reading light for each side of the bed and a table to lay a book or glasses. Each closet had a laundry basket and a folding rack for luggage. All of the linens, towels, pillows were of nice quality and fresh – no hand-me-downs. The kitchen was really well-stocked and the glasses, dishes, flatware all matched . All the extra touches make you feel like valued guests, not renters.

The owner couldn’t be nicer and easier to work with, a final plus.
