Overview

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

Climbing Vine Cottage is a custom-designed yurt nestled in an organic vegetable and perennial flower garden near our home. The yurt features a fully equipped, eat-in kitchen (includes chocolate and award winning, locally roasted coffee) with seating for 6. The bathroom is stocked with towels, local soap, shampoo, etc. Sleeping accommodations include a lovely master bedroom (full size bed) with flat screen tv for dvds, fold out futon bed in the living room (full size) and two twin beds in the loft. In the winter months the yurt stays cozy with a thermostat-controlled wood pellet stove (pellets are provided). The stone patio offers outdoor dining, a gas grill and fire pit. The wildflower field, only steps away, connects to a nature preserve and Van Buskirk Gorge with many waterfalls. Guests are welcome to harvest berries, fruit and vegetables from the orchard and garden. High speed wireless internet is also included.

Beautiful Cottage Seeks Ideal Guest: Comfortable, artfully designed, hand crafted yurt nestled into vibrant garden seeks visitors for memorable stay. If you like nature, hiking and gorge walks, if you are tired of cookie cutter hotel rooms or antique stuffed B & B's, if you want something unique and delightful let's get together for one night or many weeks! Hey, I know I'm just a 'luxury apartment in the round' but who says places can't have personality! Please write my caretaker and come visit me!

Talk About Kid Friendly!: Climbing Vine Cottage began as a playground and school for young gardeners. Small hands helped grow fruits, vegetables and flowers for their families and our local soup kitchen Loaves and Fishes. Children have raised butterflies, caught frogs and identified bugs. The yurt was our classroom. In the garden you'll find the cedar tool shed neatly organized with high quality child-sized tools and children's gardening books. In the yurt children will be delighted to sit at the child's table for 4 and use the beading, drawing, collage and clay materials we always keep in stock. There's a play kitchen, tea set and apron, plus baskets with legos and a train set and a well-stocked children's book shelf. Additionally you'll find kid-friendly-adaptive-devices like a step stool, potty seat, and low bench.

For adults without kids don't worry, when we know you're coming we place these materials out of the way, on shelves, etc.

Perfect for a Romantic Getaway: Climbing Vine Cottage makes it easy to find the time for each other. Cook together in a beautiful kitchen or get take out. Cozy up by the fire or climb in bed and watch a DVD. Better yet, climb up to the loft to watch the stars. Explore the forest and gorge in privacy surrounded by peace and beauty.

About Michelle Menter

I grew up on this land hiking the gorge, playing in waterfalls and riding horses in the pasture. After traveling throughout Europe, the Middle East and India and living in San Francisco I came back home to build a house here so my children could also experience the beauty of living close to nature. Family members helped to build the yurt which originally served as the school house for my children's gardening program. My dad and I are avid gardeners and orchardists. It's our pleasure to offer warm hospitality to travelers seeking a unique yurt experience!

We'll be back!

  • 5 of 5

We're so glad we choose to stay at Climbing Vine Cottage! The warmth of the fire, the sound of the rain on the roof and the gentle quietness of the land added to our rest and relaxation. We will definitely be back in winter! And spring! And summer!

Peaceful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

A perfect getaway. We have stayed here twice now. Michelle and her family are very welcoming. The yurt was spacious and comfortable and it 's much bigger than it looks. We loved the garden in all its flowering glory in the summer and in the fall as the vegetables ripened. Our daughter especially enjoyed feeding the fish in the pond and sampling from the garden. The yurt is well situated - a short drive to Ithaca and state parks. We hiked in the close by gorges, went to an apple orchard and enjoyed great dinners in nearby area restaurants. We are hoping to come back!

Tranquil vacation destination perfect for young children

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the yurt. We all enjoyed picking fresh vegetables from the garden and including them in our daily dinner. My two young boys could run around outside when we were getting ready for the day or winding down in the evening. The yurt offers all the comfort of home while being surrounded by nature. It is close to great nature parks with spectacular hikes and waterfalls and beautiful Cayuga Lake. We will be back but next time earlier in the summer as many of the swimming places are without lifeguards (last week in August) and the temperature was too cool to swim most days but ideal for hiking. The yurt and Ithaca are an ideal family getaway.

Quiet with all the amenities

  • 5 of 5

The yurt is a beautiful place surrounded by lush and edible gardens. The place is bigger than i thought it would be. The kitchen is well stocked and exactly as described. My daughter (almost 3) and nephew (11) loved the yurt, garden, water feature. Only 5 minute drive to Treman and Buttermilk Falls, 10 minute drive to Commons, Ithaca Farmers Market, and probably 15-20 minute drive to Cornell. Really terrific stay! Only drawback was that we did not have cell reception BUT the WiFi connection was great and made up for the lack of cell phone reception. Highly recommend!
