Adorable, quaint cottage in the heart of Mount Dessert
We stayed June 23-June 30, and the cottage was a wonderful resting place as we explored all that Acadia National Park had to offer. The cottage is very charming and clean and had everything we needed. It is obvious that the owners take pride in the cottage and the adorable city of Somesville(I recommend spending at least a few hours roaming about this quaint village-the owners provide directions for several nice walks right from the cottage). The cottage is at the end of a quiet road, with lovely greenery in the back. There were birds on the feeder every morning as we got ready for our day and we had deer in the backyard on our return. We did not do any cooking during our stay because there are so many great places to eat all over Mount Dessert, but they did provide all the necessary items needed including a wide variety of spices if you wish to stay in and have a quiet evening enjoying the solitude from the back deck. The bed was comfortable and furniture was all very nice. The bathroom is small but was adequate for our use. The location was very nice. Although Mount Dessert around Bar Harbor can get busy we never felt the busyness at the cottage. Since the cottage is located in the center of Mount Dessert you are only about 15-20 minutes away from Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor. The owners were on site-staying in a separate cottage- and are very friendly and helpful but were never intrusive. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to others.
We are delighted that you had such a relaxing stay. Always so much exploring to do here, so we hope you might return some day. Thank you for your thoughtful words of appreciation.
Our second time here. Can't wait for the third.
Can't get enough of this place. Such a great value, quiet, peaceful, roomy, privacy, wildlife, woods, great location and two of the nicest most helpful hosts you could ask for. We'll be back again and again in the years to come. Thank you Marilee and Ken for making Franklin Cottage available for others to share, J.P. and Beth
Delighted to welcome you again to our neck of these beautiful woods. Thank you so much for your graciousness and kind words.
Beautiful quiet place!!
We had a wonderful time. The property is beautiful and well taken care of. Marilee was easy to work with and was available if you needed her. The surrounding area (the quiet side of the island) has a lot to offer. We enjoyed Acadia, traditional music festival, The Acadia Rep Theater and leisurely exploring the towns.
So glad to share our home and lovely island with you. Taking in the cultural events along with the natural beauty of Acadia is the perfect way to enjoy time here. Thank you for sharing your experience, and do come again some day. So much more to see!
Lovely cottage in a quiet setting.
It was is a quite place in a lovely setting of trees, grass, and plants/flowers. The owner welcomed us when we arrived. The cottage had plenty of room, it was very clean, and had lots of artist touches from the owner. It was not far to get anywhere around Mt Desert Island. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
We're so glad to share our home and property, especially with people who haven't been here before. Thank you for appreciating everything ~ we're off to tend to those plants and flowers!
Comfort and privacy shared only with wildlife
Bring your toothbrush because it's about the only thing that isn't already there for your needs. This property shows the love and care that the owners have and give to make this a rustic five-star cottage. We'll be back but will stay longer next time.
We are always so glad to hear that our efforts are appreciated. It is an enjoyable creative challenge to add touches to the cottages each year, and we are at work already planning for next season.
We rented the Franklin Cottage in June. The artist cottage was delightful and so relaxing. During the day we explored the Acadia National Park, and each evening we returned to the cottage. The cottage is perfect. Large enough to not feel cramped, yet small enough to still feel quaint. The artist touches throughout the cottage are perfect!
We are always delighted when our efforts are so appreciated. Finding the works of our artist friends and making our way through all the nearby antique venues during the off-season is great fun. So glad this was a special vacation.
The historic village of Somesville is centrally located on Mt. Desert Island, virtually surrounded by Acadia National Park. You can drive 5-7 miles in three directions and visit the larger towns of Bar Harbor, S.W. Harbor, and N.E. Harbor.
