How about a Maine adventure with kayaking, swimming, hiking and breathing in the fresh Maine air and still stay in a new home that makes you really feel like you've been pampered? This is what you'll experience with just a 20 minute ride to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. If that is too long; swim, hike or kayak Long Pond or Echo Lake just 5 minutes away. Still too far? How about a leisurely stroll to Southwest Harbor shopping and restaurants, maybe walk down to the Southwest Harbor Lobster Dock and pick out a few crusty lobsters to bring home and either steam or grill! While they're cooking relax with a glass of wine on the deck under the umbrella and enjoy the view of Southwest Harbor and Cadillac Mountain!
This is why we come to Maine, THE LIFESTYLE! Charming Bass Harbor and the Bass Harbor Lighthouse is just up the road, take out pizza and ice cream at Gott's(an MDI institution), is just a few minutes up the road. Looking for kayak or bike rentals? They are just a few minutes away at downtown Southwest Harbor. You can put your bikes on the free LL Bean Bus in the summer and ride the carriage roads in Acadia (catch it at the bottom of the street) and never have to use your car.
If you want to explore the spectacular Schoodic Penninsula or the charming towns of Cherryfield or Blue Hill this is a great central place to start. Come once and you'll be back year after year just like us!

About Property Manager
We started traveling to the Northeast 10 years ago searching Nova Scotia, Massachusetts, and the entire Bar Harbor and Acadia area for a vacation home. Nothing seemed like home until we found the town of Southwest Harbor. Everything you could want or need is just a stone's throw away yet its still home to Acadia's many glorious and varied experiences: Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond, Long Pond, Echo Lake, Cadillac Mountain, Northeast Harbor and Seal Cove (be sure to look for Martha Stewart!).
Property Manager purchased this House in 2007
Why Property Manager chose Southwest Harbor
There's no place like Maine. ' The way life should be.' Life is simple and safe enough to let your kids walk into town or to the lobster docks or harbor.
What makes this House unique
Free seasonal transportation as the Island Explorer picks you up and the end of the street to take you anywhere on the island, a huge plus. An exquisite view of the harbor and mountains, a kitchen to accommodate any gourmet chef. Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you should give up your comforts! Grill outside on the deck and enjoy the fabulous Maine weather! Walk out the backyard to The Great Harbor. Realize so much of Acadia National Park is within a 5 minute ride of Southwest Harbor, swim or kayak at Long Pond, Wonderland Hike, Shipwatch Hike, and the Seawall!

Sports & Adventure Activities
We were 2 60-somethings and 3 young adults. We knew Mount Desert Island from previous weekend trips to Maine, but we'd always stayed in a hotel in Bar Harbor. This was a much better plan. The house was perfect for us. We spent our trip hiking in Acadia. So happy to be away from the tourist crush in Bar Harbor, yet within an easy drive of the park and all of Mount Desert's restaurants. The layout of good kitchen plus dining and living areas meant we had plenty of space to hang out together.
Loved our stay in this beautiful home!
This was our 2nd trip to Acadia, and our first time staying in Southwest Harbor. We went with our 2 college aged sons. This house was perfect! It was less than a 5 minute drive to the quiet town of Southwest Harbor, where there are several restaurants and a market to buy groceries. Also, we were able to book all of our activities in the area, so we didn't even need to go to Bar Harbor, and we were 1/2 hour or less from entrances to the park, including the popular Eagle Lake entrance to the carriage roads. Several nice hikes are a very short drive away too. The house itself was clean and comfortable with a perfect layout (all rooms on the same floor). The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, and is modern with lots of space, and open to the living room. One thing we really liked was the seating in the living room -- 2 couches and a lounge chair, which gave us plenty of space to stretch out and relax. The living room also had a nice workspace, which was helpful since one of our sons spent time there working on grad school applications. The laundry room was in a good place too -- a clean basement with natural light. All in all, a great vacation in a lovely place. We would definitely stay here again!
We had a great experience staying at this property. It comfortably handled our family of 6. Very clean; well equipped; and convenient to Acadia and Bar Harbor. The owner was very accommodating and made the transaction very smooth. I highly recommend the property!
Clean & comfortable
Our family stayed here during our 1st trip to Maine. The house was very clean and nicely decorated. The beds were all comfortable and the kitchen had pretty much everything you needed if you decided to cook while there. It was nice to have a comfortable, quiet place to go to at the end of the day after being busy exploring all of MDI during the day. There were some great restaurants in town and all the major attractions are within 1/2 hour away.
Owners were easy to work with and knowlegable about local activities, restaurants, etc. This home was very neat, clean and well equipped. We loved the kitchen & the deck. Beds were very comfortable. It was an easy walk into town. This property is located on the "quiet side" of Mount Desert Island & is a short drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. If our travels bring us to this area again, we would definitely consider this property.
