About KELLY

HELLO! We are owners Kelly Esterbrook and Jimmi Terhaar. We love BAKER CITY and coming over to ski, hike, ride our bikes and most of all working on The Palmer House! We found it, fell in love with it and felt it deserved the respect of its graceful, prominent lore in Baker history! So we have endeavored to bring it new color and creative life working on it when we can s l o w down (what we love about Baker!) and get there from our hometown of Bend, OR. We hope you enjoy the Palmer House as we endeavor....to restore...create..and color...it with NEW LIFE!

Why KELLY chose Baker City

We really got excited about Baker City, coming from Bend and having been long time residents of Bend; Baker was like the 'OLD BEND' only with more history in its buildings. Downtown is so very cool...big stone buildings..old Victorian houses.. We came to ski Anthony Lakes and loved the small community of skiing there. The Nordic while small is world class! Snow is light and fluffy! We feel a slower pace the minute we hit town!

What makes this apartment unique

We love the detail of 'this OLD HOUSE! The higher ceilings, the antique moldings and stained glass.. the roominess of it all! It has 2 living rooms with a beautiful old fireplace ( now with safe electric fire ambience)! I especially love the Sun Room.... relaxing...

Not for kids

  • 3 of 5

The house is clean, well located, and well stocked. Kelly was responsive to both my texts regarding a water leak in the dining room from the sprinkler, and the air conditioning situation.

However...being over 100 years old the floors and doors are really crooked and creaky. It was hard for my kids to stay asleep with us moving around. Even if we were quiet we could hear the upstairs tenants moving around. No dishwasher - we were hand-washing for six. My toddler also fell on the stairs out the kitchen door. The handrail is way too high for him to reach. He spent half his vacation with a giant knot on his head where he landed on the concrete. We visited in July when the temps were in the 90's and there is no air conditioning and most of the windows are painted shut. It was sweltering hot until after 10. I really wanted my kids to enjoy a stay in an old house with lots of period detail. I think we missed it with this one.

This would be a better choice for a couple traveling without kids in the shoulder season.

Cute & Cozy

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay here while exploring Eastern Oregon on a short little weekend road trip. Very clean, cute & cozy. Our little yorkie was able to stay which was a plus for us since most rentals frown upon pets. Fell in love with the cute little town of Baker City. Walking distance to downtown, and good selection of restaurants. Will definitely be staying here again!

Great location and comfortable setting

  • 5 of 5

The house was comfortable, conveniently located and well equipped. Our family wanted a relaxing setting to gather together, which is exactly what we got. It was an easy walk downtown, and when we chose to stay in it was perfect for evening board games and conversation. We highly recommend it.

Lovely HOme

  • 3 of 5

Gracie, at The Palmer House is a quaint, cozy place to stay. Although small, the kitchen provides all the amenities needed for a stay while in Baker City. The bedrooms are spacious & comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the sun room in the morning w/ a good cup of coffee. Good access to down town & very walkable to local sights.
