About the property

Cottage, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

This cottage is known as 'The Lookout' as it is perched high on a ledge on Georgetown's Bay Point. This three bedroom cottage located on the mouth of the Kennebec River has a majestic view of Popham Beach, including Fort Popham, which was built by the Union Army during the American Civil War to protect the towns along the Kennebec River from the Confederates. This cottage has access to a beautiful sandy beach . . . less than a 5 minute walk.

Enjoy the seclusion of staying in a very cozy cottage with lots of ambiance. This cottage with a large front deck offers a comfortable living room with a fireplace. The perfect spot for those who just want to get away to a quiet place along the Maine coast. There is a full kitchen, bath and three bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed while the others have single beds. There is a separate studio with a bedroom with twin beds and its own full bath and loft area. There is also a washer and dryer on site. This cottage and studio will accommodate 6-8 people.

This cottage is a 10 minute drive to Reid State Park with its miles of beautiful beaches and sand dunes. Also, 10 minute drive away is Five Islands considered by many to being one of the most picturesque fishing villages along the Maine coast. On the wharf at Five Islands enjoy a shore dinner of lobsters and clams while watching the working lobster boats. On the Island of Georgetown, you will find a general store, two restaurants, marina and a farm stand with local fresh vegetables, cheeses, wines and much, much more.

A 20 minute drive up Route 127, you can visit the historic City of Bath with its maritime history and many old sea captain homes. While in Bath visit the Maine Maritime Museum as well as a variety of stores, supermarkets, quaint shops and restaurants. A 40 minute drive from this cottage is the outlet shopping in Freeport, home of LL Bean's flagship store. Antiquing is 30 minutes away on Route 1 in Wiscasset. For sightseeing, you will want to take day trips to Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta and the Old Port district in Portland . . . all one hour away.

Stunning view with Maine cottage charm!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Lookout. The view was magnificent. The cottage is rustic, but the beds are very comfortable. It was rustic in a good way, not a scary way! There is always someone available to help out with any questions or problems that may arise. The service was terrific! It has to be hands down the most relaxing vacation I have had in years! Can't wait to return!

Family cabin in the woods

  • 4 of 5

We were looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway, and this cottage was just the ticket. The view from the deck is lovely and it's a great spot to hang out. The screened porch is also quite nice but smaller. We were able to spend some great family time and see the sights in Bath, Fort Popham, and the nearby state park beach. The only thing to be prepared for is that there are not many places to eat out nearby, but the kitchen equipment is a bit uneven for making all meals at home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay. Georgetown does offer three restaurants for dining out. There's fine dining at Grey Havens Inn in their restaurant Blue, great fresh seafood and other fare down on the working lobster wharf at Five Islands Lobster Company, or fabulous views and great food down at the marina at The Osprey. Bath, a 15-20 minute drive, offers many great restaurants as well. We are always available to offer assistance if you are in need of information about the area.

Best of Maine

  • 5 of 5

if you are looking for period, quintessential Maine, this is your place. We had a most lovely stay here. The cottage and studio accommodated our extended family very well. It's cozy, yet has plenty of space to find your own private nook. The view to Fort Popham off the deck is a delight with morning coffee or cocktails at night. A short walk takes you to the beautiful private beach, my son loved to fish there. If you are looking for a more rustic cottage with all the comforts of home, this is your place. I hope we can return here someday.
