About Barbara

Gardiner, Montana is my home. I enjoy the lifestyle of living in a small rustic 'tucked-in-the-wilderness' town. As you walk to the Post Office or grocery store, people will wave to you on the way. Surrounded by mountains, beautiful 'Big Sky' and wildlife. Some say this is 'the end of the road.' I prefer to think of it as 'the Beginning of the Road.' It is a wonderful place to experience the refreshing adventure and beauty of nature.

Barbara purchased this apartment in 2009

Why Barbara chose Gardiner

It is a beautiful treasure to have Yellowstone for my home. I remember the wonder and excitement of my first trip here. The roaring geysers, the painter's palettes of radiant hues shimmering under the waters of the steamy hot springs and bubbling mud pots. Wildlife with no fear. Herds of free-roaming great bison, majestic elk, ambling grizzly and black bears. Mountainsides of rainbows of wildflowers. It will be my pleasure to share Elk River Lodge and the beauty of Yellowstone with you. I trust that the wonder will touch your life, refresh you and you will take some of the Wonder, Excitement and Beauty home with you.

It is outstanding to see the hot springs and geysers with their wonder and unique beauty, each different than the one before. Every season changes the beauty to new palates of colors and symphonies of action. The animals also change with the seasons. Bears emerging from their dens in the late winter. Wildlife babies in the spring. In summer, moving into the prime of their beauty. The majestic elk and bighorn rut in the autumn, with golden aspens & cottonwoods in the mountain valleys. Winter with the elk & wolves in their primal dance for survival in the pristine snow. Arrive in the winter during the new moon and see the Milky Way in all of its glory! During the winter, daytime snowcoach tours are available to Old Faithful from Mammoth Hot Springs, which located near Gardiner.

You will have an outstanding trip to Yellowstone!

What makes this apartment unique

Some have said that a lifetime could be spent here and not see it all. The opportunities are: Viewing wildlife in their natural environment is a premier point in visiting Yellowstone. In the fall (full rut starts approximately Sept 12), is a favorite time to come see the exciting Elk Rut, where the Majestic Elk Bulls in their Prime vie with each other for their harem for cows. Mammoth (5 miles south) is a main viewing area. Bison are easily viewed in both the Lamar and Hayden Valleys. Wolves, with Elk and Bison, are most likely to be found in the Lamar Valley. The Old Yellowstone Trail, starting 3 blocks from the home is an outstanding location to see the wildlife in the winter. All of these areas are within driving distance with beautiful Wilderness Scenery along the way. There is Incredibly More to see than I could ever possible describe in a short paragraph!! Pristine Wilderness... Wildlife... Geysers... Hot Springs... History... Fishing... Hiking... and More! A Lifetime of Adventure!! Gardiner is the headquarters for the Yellowstone Association, which holds Institute Field Classes relating to the environment, biology, geology and history of the Yellowstone area. These exciting Institute Classes take place in the field, viewing first hand what is being learned. Elk River Lodge is located 3 blocks from the Heritage Resource Center for the National Park Service of Yellowstone National Park, where resides the archives, library and museum artifacts relating to the history of Yellowstone. With appointments/library card one may explore the fascinating history and artifacts of Yellowstone.

During the winter season the rental is available at a low-season rates. Check the calendar for rates & availability. Elk River Lodge is a very convenient location to see and photograph wildlife in the Lamar Valley, or those enjoying the Adventure & Beauty of Yellowstone. Snowcoaches, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available out of Mammoth

A perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We planned a vacation here with friends from across the country. Barbara's house far exceeded our expectations. It was very well maintained and equipped with everything we could possibly need. A beautiful house in a very cute town. We liked being in the town and right by the entrance to Yellowstone. Thank you, Barbara!

Comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

This turned out to be the perfect house for our family. We were greeted by fresh brownies and a few snacks on the table. The two bedrooms are perfect for a small family. My husband and I had our own room with a bathroom. The other bedroom had a queen bed and a day/trundle bed. My children liked the fact that one bed was more girly and the other more masculine. My son had the trundle bed and said it was comfortable that he wanted one just like it at home. In addtion there was another complete bathroom. The kitchen was large and laid out well. Loved that it had a laundry facility. This home is in the heart of Gardiner. We were able to walk to the entrance of Yellowstone and buy our pass within a few yards of the home. Also very close to several restaurants and shops.

The house was very clean. Great instructions and resources were out for us. Just a great stay.

Our Stay In Gardiner

  • 4 of 5

The house met all our needs for our visit to the Northern section of Yellowstone and our side visits to Bozeman & Livingston, MT. The owner sent us information prior to our visit that assisted us in playing our visit to the area. Even information that covered West Yellowstone, MT, our first stop on our trip. The house is located on the corner, and early in the morning there is traffic. It really did not bother us, because we are early risers to get into the park before the crowds. F.Y.I. The owner is moving to the Livingston area and a new owner is taking over the house.

Absolutely perfect

  • 5 of 5

This property had everything that we could possibly have needed. The kitchen was extremely well stocked, more so than any other vacation home we've stayed in. Barbara was so friendly, checked in to make sure that we had settled in, left a lovely plate of brownies and basket of other treats to greet us upon our arrival. Very highly recommended!

Great homebase for Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! The house was clean and comfortable and fit our family of 5 perfectly. Barbara was great to work with and our kids enjoyed playing with her dog, too. Gardiner is a fantastic location, right outside the north entrance to Yellowstone. There is a lot of driving to see all of Yellowstone, so it was nice to not have to drive any further after leaving the park.
