About Shelly or Kate

I reside in San Francisco, California, moving from Charleston, South Carolina about nine years ago. I miss the rich and unique culture of Charleston, but have grown to equally love the Bay Area. Discovering Tahoe has even deepened my appreciation for the vast geography of Northern California, and the variety of desirable, as well as accessible destinations that surround me. Oh yes, my golden retriever also loves all of the dog friendly people, swim spots, trails, cafes, resorts, and boutiques that Tahoe holds.

Shelly or Kate purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Shelly or Kate chose Lake Tahoe West Shore CA

Tahoe is my panacea! It is amazing how my mind eases and my tensions dissipate as soon as I pass through Blue Canyon when driving on 80 East into the Sierras. The beauty overwhelms me with inspiration and motivation to press on in life and keep striving to move forward.

What makes this cabin unique

One of my most cherished moments at the cabin is waking to the silence of the mountains, and raising my head up to look out of the window to a pristine blanket of snow against a glimmering cobalt blue lake. The experience is so pure and surreal to me each and every time.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Kate,

It was a great holiday for us. We just kept saying wow at the views from upstairs in the morning and the HT all the time. beautiful! I came home to my broken screen door. The frame on your screen door is bent in one spot so if they just replaced the screen it may have a short life. There were no coffee filters but we went to the bakery and that was some awesome coffee. The fireplace is really great! That was a great investment! If you need a handyman call me I may be able to help. I am crazy busy at work but may love the distraction.

Thank you for sharing your place!!!

Cozy mountain cabin with great views!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time staying at this property, and our family loves it. There are beautiful, full lake views, and the hot tub is in great condition on the deck. The owners are very responsive and kind. My kids also love sledding right on the property. We'll be back!

Everything met our expectations and more.

  • 5 of 5

The detailed instructions about how to get in and how to handle the security system were

clear and understandable, even though we took time to read everything twice.

It was great that we had access to the private area and park along the lake with the included

Cabin was clean and comfortable. Didn't quite know how to turn down the room temperature

thermostat when we left, or even if that needed to be adjusted. Hot tub was on when we

arrived, so we left it as we found it.

The visitor center folks were very helpful. Traffic was very slow at times with the road work

that was going on, but we are used to that in the SF bay area.

Weather was about as good as it could get, and maybe we can return again sometime.

Beautiful home with fabulous views

  • 4 of 5

A lovely A-frame home with gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe. Conveniently located close to (yet far enough away from) Tahoe City with all the basic conveniences needed for a family getaway.

It was great to be able to find a lovely and warm home that accepted pets. This enabled us to enjoy our much needed vacation with our four-legged friends (encountering snow for the very first time).

The home has all the facilities for cooking meals or using it as a base for dining out in the local area.

It was great to come home from hikes in the snow to a warm (gas heated) fireplace.

Great for all ages.

A fantastic trip - we loved our stay

Beautiful and peaceful

This was one of the best trips I have ever taken! Cozy nights by the fire, gazing at the stars from the hot tub, and glorious views of the lake and surrounding mountains made this a weekend I'll never forget.

Great cabin, clean, nice views;

  • 4 of 5

Overall this was an amazing cabin and so close to being 5 stars.

The layout is great; nice views of Lake Tahoe through the many feet of snow pack around the cabin. The hot-tub was nice feature and in the winter it had a lot of privacy. Nice distance away from the main road (SR89) so you don't get noise and feel that you are away yet still can get to places quickly. Snow removal service seemed prompt and they visited multiple times during our 3 night stay. If you like photos of dogs get ready; they are in every room.

A few smaller things were off: While you shouldn't expect things that aren't listed most rentals tend to have some basics (salt and pepper); 5 of the 5 ice cube trays were cracked pretty bad, the driveway certainly cannot fit 4 cars as indicated in the rental agreement. Bear box couldn't be opened but the owner was okay with trash being left inside when we texted her and got a fast response. Wifi was inconsistent event with resetting the router; would almost be better to not have it; even using just one device it would crawl to a halt. Dryer lint trap had not be cleaned in many many loads; a big fire hazard.

Owner's Response: I am happy to hear the stay was overall a nice experience and hope the group can make it back again. In particular, I was really grateful to have the opportunity to be aware of the Wi-Fi issue. Unfortunately, I learned this post this guests stay and would have liked to have been able to update the group on why this was happening. When calling ATT regarding the connectivity issue, I was reminded that in this mountainous region the internet service can be effected by high winds, snow storms, and ice, and that this winter season has been full of these issues, as well as high demand vacation times in the area were over taxing systems. I had never had this happen to date, or at least I had never been made aware there was in an issue in the past, but it has been quite a season of multiple and powerful snowstorms, so it did make sense to me. Being reminded of this, I was able to allow upcoming guests to be informed for the winter season of the possibility of needing a backup if Wi-Fi encountered connectivity issues, and I was able to update my future guest documents accordingly. Regarding the observation on the parking, this too was related to heavy snow storms and related to when cars are blocking areas of the driveway during winter storms when the Snowplower needs access. It is a tough balance in the winter, especially with the multiple big snow storms this winter (Winter 2017), but when cars prevent the snow from being removed, the unplowed snow can block portions of the driveway and camouflage the actual size of the driveway. Please note the photo of the driveway with one SUV for scale of the driveway (without snow) on the VRBO website to allow you to see a visual that 4 cars can easily fit in the driveway when it is accessible for the Snowplower to plow. The bear box key was also unfortunately later found buried in the snow (it is normally connected to the right of the bearbox) but not sure how this became detached, and is being replaced. Regarding the lint in the dryer, this was also very appreciated information and was addressed by the cleaners prior to the next guest check-in. Regarding the salt and pepper and ice trays, I will be replacing with my next trip.
