Amazing house in a perfect spot, a wonderful introduction to Maine and all it has to offer.
We spent a week in the wonderful Stone House, my husband and I and our two children - daughter 5, son 2 and a half - it was the perfect spot, the house had all we needed and more with a fantastic garden onto the shore line with a hammock. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated as was the sitting room and kitchen-diner.
The sound of the ocean sent us off to sleep every night with a cool breeze blowing through the house.
We loved it and hope to return again next year!
Awesome Tranquil environment. Can't wait to return!
The house is amazing - rustic charm with a magnificent view. Sit on the deck and watch the local lobster boats bring in their traps. And watch pleasure boats which included many sail boats!
I rented the Stone house from July 9th through the 13th. Our Group included 4 adults (48 to 58 years Old) 2 seniors (82 and 87) and 7 nieces and nephews (Aged 11 to 22)
The house was very well equipped,
- plenty of dishes to accommodate everyone during for meals.
- enough towels for everyone.
- there were a large array of spices in the cupboard, to which we added several more.
My nieces and nephews took advantage of the Ping-Pong table in the bunkhouse, and the adults enjoyed the comfortable seating in the living room. I would say the best feature was the fact that the bunkhouse gives the younger generation their freedom - and the older generations peace and quite in the evenings!!!
The nearby activities that I would highly recommend include:
1. an excursion with Balmy Days Cruises in Boothbay Harbor, we chartered the Miss Boothbay which allowed for a custom cruise that included both a guided sight seeing tour with mackerel fishing - caught many fish - kept enough to grill for dinner at the house.
2. Enjoy the shops in Boothbay Harbor.
3. The Botanical Gardens
4. Seafood restaurants, especially Robinson's Wharf and Oliver's which are both on the Island of Southport (where the house is)
My sister's and I enjoyed it so much -- we're already talking about a return trip, want to take part in more activities -- too much to do in the area for only 4 days. The things we will repeat include the activities listed above and definitely staying at the Stone House on Bayberry Lane again!
Relaxation and a gorgeous private rock beach
The location is perfect, right on the beach with gorgeous views. Although the beach is very rocky, we managed to put our canoe in the water and enjoyed wonderful views from the water. There is plenty of lawn area to play ball, badminton, or just to hang out. Two picknick tables provide plenty of space to eat outside. The house is well equipped with cookware, plates, silverware etc for many people (we were 12). The "bunk house" was perfect for the children to sleep.
Unfortunately house keeping had not spent a lot of time cleaning; there was a lot of dust and a very bad odor of a decaying animal inside the stone house. For the price we paid per night this should not have happened.
We had a terrific time and the home was clean and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend visiting this lovely property!
This was a return trip to Stone House and we love it. You cannot beat the ocean vista and morning sunrise right from your bed!
Ah... Peace and Quiet...and Fantastic Views
What a perfect place to get away from it all. The house is charming, and there are water views from lots of vantage points, inside and out. We were there for perfect weather, so threw open the windows and doors and enjoyed warm air and a light, cool breeze. I went tech-free for the week, and was very impressed by both local libraries (book junkies beware of the awesome used book sales of both!) - the near one is incredibly close, just past the end of the lane. The general store 3 miles away has a great combination of a friendly, local feel and a cosmopolitan stock (in food and newspapers). Although I can imagine the house and bunkhouse filled with running feet and family noises, being there without kids it was pin-drop quiet. Definitely would go back!
