An amazing experience that will not be forgotten

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful time during our stay at the stone house. We had eight adults and four children and were still quite comfortable with the accommodations. The house itself was lovely, and the property was unbeatable. We spent hours enjoying the yard and walking around on the rocks near the ocean. The close proximity of the library, a boat docking area, and an alpaca farm provided us with a number of wonderful walking destinations, and the short drive to Booth Bay also lent itself to dinners out and visiting shops. We can't wait to book our vacation here next year!

Unbelievable vista! Dream location! Privacy yet 6 miles from Boothbay.

  • 4 of 5

If you're looking for a private getaway on the rocky coast of Maine, this is the house for you. Our family was looking for a location that was within an hour of places to visit-Boothbay Harbor is only 6 miles away, Damariscotta 40 minutes away, Wiscasset 35 minutes away, Camden 1 hour 20 minutes away, Bath 50 minutes away, Pemmiquid State Park Beach under an hour away, Reid State Park just over an hour away. The house was built in 1965...it is not modern, but it is charming. I could imagine the different generations growing up here-the wall paper in the bedroom matched the valances, books from years ago in every nook and cranny, chairs and couches from long ago. However, everything was functional. The washing machine and dryer were used again and again as well as the dishwasher. Full fridge and dishes and pots and pans for cooking. Couldn't find a cookie sheet however-but a minor issue. We stayed at the house during a heat wave the last days of June and first days of July and the upstairs bedrooms were stiflingly hot. There were fans but I'm guessing that that floor was not insulated so the heat of the sun just baked the top floor. The view from all of the windows were mesmerizing. You can lay in bed and see the lobstermen pull in their catch right in front of the house. We saw porpoises, comorants, and ducks from the front porch. My parents who stayed with us went to the General Store in Southport to get breakfast one morning, but came back without eating because they just couldn't get enough of the view at the house! My daughter's favorite thing to do is to climb on the rocks in front of the house, looking for snails in the pools of water, and letting the waves wash over her. It is here that she fell in love with Maine's rocky coast. My favorite thing to do was sit on the front porch in the afternoon in the shade and watch the waves roll in. You can see at least 2 light houses from the porch. I loved the constant sound of the ocean=therapeutic. My teenaged daughter and her friend stayed in the bunk house which was just feet away from the main house. We all enjoyed the ping pong table in there and the kids enjoyed the privacy and the tv. I saw that the house is for sale for $2.4 million dollars, which includes the yellow house next door. While the house is charming, I think you'd be paying for the location and vistas.

Amazing house in a perfect spot, a wonderful introduction to Maine and all it has to offer.

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in the wonderful Stone House, my husband and I and our two children - daughter 5, son 2 and a half - it was the perfect spot, the house had all we needed and more with a fantastic garden onto the shore line with a hammock. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated as was the sitting room and kitchen-diner.

The sound of the ocean sent us off to sleep every night with a cool breeze blowing through the house.

We loved it and hope to return again next year!

Awesome Tranquil environment. Can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

The house is amazing - rustic charm with a magnificent view. Sit on the deck and watch the local lobster boats bring in their traps. And watch pleasure boats which included many sail boats!

I rented the Stone house from July 9th through the 13th. Our Group included 4 adults (48 to 58 years Old) 2 seniors (82 and 87) and 7 nieces and nephews (Aged 11 to 22)

The house was very well equipped,

- plenty of dishes to accommodate everyone during for meals.

- enough towels for everyone.

- there were a large array of spices in the cupboard, to which we added several more.

My nieces and nephews took advantage of the Ping-Pong table in the bunkhouse, and the adults enjoyed the comfortable seating in the living room. I would say the best feature was the fact that the bunkhouse gives the younger generation their freedom - and the older generations peace and quite in the evenings!!!

The nearby activities that I would highly recommend include:

1. an excursion with Balmy Days Cruises in Boothbay Harbor, we chartered the Miss Boothbay which allowed for a custom cruise that included both a guided sight seeing tour with mackerel fishing - caught many fish - kept enough to grill for dinner at the house.

2. Enjoy the shops in Boothbay Harbor.

3. The Botanical Gardens

4. Seafood restaurants, especially Robinson's Wharf and Oliver's which are both on the Island of Southport (where the house is)

My sister's and I enjoyed it so much -- we're already talking about a return trip, want to take part in more activities -- too much to do in the area for only 4 days. The things we will repeat include the activities listed above and definitely staying at the Stone House on Bayberry Lane again!

Relaxation and a gorgeous private rock beach

  • 4 of 5

The location is perfect, right on the beach with gorgeous views. Although the beach is very rocky, we managed to put our canoe in the water and enjoyed wonderful views from the water. There is plenty of lawn area to play ball, badminton, or just to hang out. Two picknick tables provide plenty of space to eat outside. The house is well equipped with cookware, plates, silverware etc for many people (we were 12). The "bunk house" was perfect for the children to sleep.

Unfortunately house keeping had not spent a lot of time cleaning; there was a lot of dust and a very bad odor of a decaying animal inside the stone house. For the price we paid per night this should not have happened.
