Couldn't be happier!

  • 5 of 5

We loved Casa de Suenos.

We've been vacationing in the Guerneville area for years, and love the combination Monte Rio offers of being slightly farther away from the "big" (ok, not so big) town (Guerneville) but still directly on the river.

The house itself is in great shape - clean, great amenities, etc. It has:

(1) incredible parking (two off-street spots inside a locked gate, room for a third off-street spot outside the gate, and still more street parking if you should for some reason need it);

(2) a lovely front, fenced-in space (read a book on a lounge chair!);

(3) a spacious sun room in front (where the laundry is);

(4) a phenomenal main shared space (the room with the fireplace in the pics);

(5) two fine if unexciting bedrooms right off of the main room, and an INCREDIBLE master suite with its own deck on the lower level (note that the master suite has no doors - including on the bathroom - so if that lack of privacy bothers you then, well, just be aware);

(6) a serviceable kitchen with a good-sized dining area and easy access to an outdoor grill;

(7) a hot tub with a fantastic view (if the water is low, as it was when we arrived, the hose is a tight reach to the hot tub, but it does make it); and

(8) a great backyard and deck, with easy access to a good sized dock by the river.

There's actually way more good stuff I could say about the place, but if I go too overboard, there will be too much competition to rent the place next summer!

a great getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa de Suenos this month and had the best R and R we have had in a long time.

This home is peaceful, surrounded by redwoods and lots of green and flowers. We loved the hot tub in the evenings - after the children went to bed- they had the best time with the huge lawn (we are city folk) and kayaking on the Russian River which is shallow enough to let parents relax. There are some really good places to eat in Guerneville (a few minutes away) but with all of the local produce nearby and the great deck and barbecue we mostly cooked there. We did slip away one night to Healdsburg which is not far away to enjoy the town square and had a great time at Healdsburg Bar and Grill - fun for the kids and us! We will be back - so we can explore the many wineries nearby.

Lots of potential, plenty of disappointment

  • 2 of 5

We were really disappointed to find the BBQ in the state it was in.  We had never seen a BBQ so caked with grease and filth - we had planned to use it for most of our cooking but could not.  The yard needs serious maintenance - patios and decks were strewn with debris - we had to find rakes and brooms to clean it up - not something someone wants to do on vacation.  No furniture on the deck near the river was a real bummer - we had to move decking furniture and move it back... The sun porch is beautiful but reeks of dog, so we kept the door closed from the family room to the porch so that the smell did not invade the house.  The hot tub was off when we went to first use it and took so long to warm up that we couldn't really use it the first night...

The house has tons of potential, but not worth what we paid for it.  We had a certain budget for our vacation and decided to rent what we thought was "the best" for three nights instead of renting a cheaper place for four nights.  In our experience, it is better to have a nicer place for fewer nights compared to a not so nice place for more nights.  We definitely do not feel that we got what we paid for in this case.

Owner's Response: Of course, very sorry to hear that anyone was disappointed. We always try to do our best to have everyone enjoy their experience - so we'll certainly take to heart what this traveler has said - but I'd like to address their comments here. First, I truly wish the guest had contacted us as soon as they had any issues with the home as we send instructions with the entrycode that tells the guest to contact us at anytime with an issue, and we have a local cleaning, yard/maintenance crew that we can call to take care of any issue. We have had guests call with small issues (computer, cable questions, etc.), and have always responded right away. The grill not being cleaned was an unacceptable oversight which we would have had the cleaning crew take care of immediately, and I called the crew upon receiving this complaint and she apologized for the oversight. The maintenance crew could have put out the lawnchairs they needed, too. I would note that there was deck furniture out (table and chairs), but the sunbathing furniture we have down by the docks was not yet out for the summer season (the rental season is typically May-October, as listed on VRBO - although we have many renters who come up for a more indoor type weekend offseason) I'm not quite sure what the "debris" is that was referenced on the deck, other than sticks from the trees on the deck around the hottub. In any event, I'm sorry they experienced what they felt was "debris". The outdoor gardening crew starts mid-April and is there all rental season weekly. The yard looks like the photos in the rental season when flowers bloom and the gardener is there weekly. We'll be sure to let future guests know this..not sure what to say about the huttub being "off". The hot tub maintenance co. (Spa Dad) comes weekly to clean and maintain it and has come for the last 4 years since we've owned the home, and they have never reported it to be off, nor have they turned it off, nor has any other guest reported it off and we have never shut it off. The Spa Dad sign by the tub says to keep it on, too. Again, I'm sorry that the tub was apparently off for the first time since we've owned the home. The one comment this renter made which is simply untrue is that the sun porch has never "reeked" of dog. We had guests up there from 3/28-4/1, the day these people arrived who had no complaint, nor did our neighbors who joined us for dinner shortly after this guest's stay. Nor has anyone else ever mentioned dog smell

Home awy from Home

We have stayed here three times and we love it. The fireplace is beautiful and cozy. Now that the game room is available it is really nice for those "kids" who want to go on out and play games! The down stairs is an oasis. we have only been able to go in the winter...but imagine the summer is fantastic with being right on the river.

We loved our stay at Casa De Suenos. Where to start, Fishing off pvt. dock.(no bites), Hot Tubbing under the stars, canoeing on river.(canoe furnished by owner), Fireplace at night with a good Pinot. This place is fantastic.The home has everything you would need for an extended stay. The master suite was more than we could have dreamed of. We only had two days,but plan on going back soon.There were also two great restuarants right down the street. I can't say enough about this property. I highly recommend it. 9-25-11

Casa De Suenos

  • 4 of 5

My family and I rented this home twice., In 2008 and 2009. It was a great vacation house. I loved that you could walk to several restaurants and yet when you are at the house complete and total privacy. The lot is huge. The front and backyard are so special. Like all river homes the stairs down to the river are steep but worth the effort. The kitchen is a traditional not modernized cabin kitchen. The back porch was glassed in at some point which is the best view in the house at anytime of day.

The master suite is like a private spa retreat. Wonderful with private deck and TV room.

We have not gone back due to the fact we moved and it is to close to home.

Enjoy!!!! I have great memories of Casa De Suenos.
