About Simon

Simon Fitzpatrick and his partner Genola live with their two children in Byron bay, Australia. Fiji is their second home.

Simon purchased this villa in 1991

Why Simon chose Western Division

Malolo Lailai Island was chosen as our getaway after many years of searching the South Pacific. The island is stunningly beautiful with 10 kilometres of white sandy beaches, great facilities and easy to get to. Our paradise!

What makes this villa unique

Here at Villa Malolo we live in an Island Paradise, private and secure but with access to all amenities such as restaurants, resort facilities and activities. We have easy International connections and friendly locals.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Pat Rafter, twice U.S. open tennis champion and his wife Lara:

"We loved Villa Mallolo and the island so much we decided to be married there with our children, family and friends and would recomend this South Pacific island dream to anyone. Simon the villa owner and Muscat Cove Resort made it an unforgetable experience" ....Pat Rafter

Villa Malolo

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have just had the privilege of staying at Villa Malolo we had a fabulous time, the island is small enough that you can explore in an afternoon bike ride, as well as a visit to the adjoining resorts.

The resort facilities such as the Island Bar, Dicks Place the pool and spa were fun and relaxing with wonderful staff to cater for your every need, the house and location was perfect for our family it was a cool oasis after a day in the hot sun, with fantastic views of the main island, it was a visual experience to watch the tide going in and out each day.

Whilst the the website images show a luxury home with fantastic views it is ageing and needs a bit of tlc.

TV yes there is one but there is no connection to programs, there is only one dvd (the sound of music) not that you want to watch tv or movies all day but occasionally the news would be good to view.

Hammock, is mouldy and not usable.

Several light bulbs were not working, maintenance fixed quickly

Beach towels are provided so guests do not have to take their own.

Dining table is outdoor only.

The fridge/freezer which is a reasonable size, needs new seals.

The pool is great with shade in the morning to keep the water temperature cool, some maitainence is needed as the tiles on the steps are coming off and the edges are quite sharp.

Filtered drinking water a luxury, thank you.

The guest Bure needs a toilet door, somewhere to hang clothes and more power points.

The house was serviced daily by the resort staff who were the most friendly, lovely, beautiful staff, they were happy to do anything asked of them with a smile, especially Rosa and Va.

Traders store is a little bit more expensive than home, so take as many condiments, spices, salt n pepper and whatever you can fit in your suitcase. Take lots of insect repellant and mozzie coils work well outdoors.

You can purchase cartons of beer at Dicks Restaurant for $130fiji per carton, or find a local with a boat and negotiate with him to go back to Nadi to purchase on your behalf, it's still expensive. You cannot take cartons of beer on the ferry, if you buy food on the mainland at IGA, use an empty suitcase to bring it on the ferry or pay the cost of $2/kg for cartage.

I hope you enjoy your Fiji experience as much as we did and my tips for self catering.
