Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-6)

Turn of the century, historic family owned home that has been upgraded with quality modern features- from a new kitchen & beds to windows & wiring.

The beach is sandy and clean, and the swimming is safe with the water deepening very gradually.

The cottage has amazing lake views from the porch, beach and our private dock, and all make great places to sit and enjoy any time of day- blue water afternoons or golden sunset evenings.

Enjoy the water with our kayaks and enjoy Alden with our bikes.

There is mooring for your boat just off the dock, and room to park a trailer across the street. The public dock and ramp are a few hundred yards away.

Although it will sleep six, it is best for a group of four or five.

Why Mark Nelson chose Torch Lake

My grandfather bought this cottage after renting in the area for three summers back in 1914, 15 & 16. He was tipped off by a cook who worked both in Alden and St. Louis. (That cook later co-authored the book The Joy of Cooking). Many have come to visit our family here over the 100 years in between .

What makes this cottage unique

There is no better place for convenience to town, tennis courts, biking and to the lake. Our beach is a true sandy beach with space to enjoy the waters edge.

One of our BEST vacations on Torch!!

After many years of vacationing on Torch Lake this was truly one of our very best! Torch Lake can simply not be beat, once you come, you'll never go to another lake, ever. The proximity to Alden made this a lot of fun for us as well. The cottage was perfect, clean, well stocked from coolers and pans to beach chairs and snorkels. Let's not forget the cottage is simply adorable, painted with soothing colors with an amazing history.

We walked or biked into Alden for breakfast, to the park, for shopping; we even purchased some beautiful paintings in Alden.

Lovely hostesses who were most helpful, always corresponding quickly via email. Our family had an amazing vacation that won't be forgotten.

FABULOUS location, comfortable home and wonderful owners

We had the pleasure of staying at this cottage 7/24-7/31 2011. The home was well stocked with everything you could ever need. They even supplied the linens, towels, dish soap, laundry detergent, etc. The fence made it very "pet" friendly, and the proximity and view of the lake is amazing. The water is crystal clear, aqua blue, and all sand bottom. GREAT for kids, super shallow for a LONG distance. The upstairs bedroom A/C unit cooled off the lower living room nicely too. Mark was very welcoming and incredibly responsive via emails and phone calls. The home is impeccably clean and gives you a relaxing "cottage" feel. The covered porch facing the lake was our favorite spot to visit, read, eat and share a drink. Also, it's a short 6 cottage walk to the quaint town of Alden. They offered little shops, restaurants, a bar and interactive family activities on the weekend. Thank you, Mark, for opening up your historic home to our family. We truly feel honored to have spent a week in your little piece of paradise. We're looking forward to a repeat visit next year!

Traverse City is 30 miles away, and has a full scale hospital and entertainment opportunities. There are a plethora of really good restaurants nowadays. Everything else you'd need is in Alden or out the front door on Michigan's grandest inland lake.
