When you drive around Harpswell, your breath will be taken away by the ocean views. We stayed here for a week in October and it was amazing. The views of the cove and the ocean was breathtaking and the house was just amazing. Larry was very accommodating. We would definitely come here again in the upcoming years and we can't wait to stay for a couple more weeks.
amazing home with stunning views! Lobster house right next door!
Another amazing visit to Harpswell!
This was the 3rd year we stayed at Estes and loved every minute of it. Larry did some nice up grades to the house that we really appreciated...the new gas grill was a nice surprise! We hope to return in July of 2018 to make more family memories...see you in July of 2018!
Another great stay at Larry's home.
Our second year in a row and we are already planning next year's visit! Larry has the perfect location and amenities for a beautiful family vacation. Our teens kayaked, biked and played basketball every day. Being able to walk over to the delicious restaurant next door is such a perk! Estes had something for all of us and we got to enjoy live music too. We spent time exploring, walking and watching seals and a bald eagle from the end of the point. We steamed lobsters outside and made s'mores in the fire pit. Everyone in our crowd has decided that Larry's home is our happy place. Thanks for everything Larry!
Great Week in Harpswell 6/17/17-6/24/17!!! Highly Recommend!!
What a great house and location. The owner, Larry was awesome, extremely helpful and local. He provided great info on local places to eat and see. We had a minor electrical issue and he had his contractor there in literally 15 minutes to resolve the issue...Now thats customer service!!.. Great view out the dining/ family room wall of windows of the bay. Bedrooms are huge, as well as the bathrooms. We had 7 people here for the week and everyone thought the house was great and the beds were extremely comfortable. Its location is great, 1 hr or less and your in Portland, Freeport, or Booth Bay to name a few. Just an incredible week. We have been to Maine 5 times now and this was by far the best trip yet. Larry, THANK YOU!!! Denis
Outstanding Place to Stay: Beautiful Sunsets, Private Paradise
I'll start with the negatives: If you need excitement, go somewhere else. If your kids need rope courses, goony golf, arcades, 208 TV Channels, movie theatres, or Starbucks, go somewhere else. If you need a golf course out your front door, go somewhere else. If you don't like eclectic art, go somewhere else. If iron-tainted water is a real deal killer, go somewhere else.
If, on the other hand, you like peace and quiet, you like a roomy, clean house, you like funky, eclectic wall hangings, you don't mind the smell of rust in your bath water, you love the best sunsets you'll see, and you like having the convenience of a pretty good restaurant next door, then this is your place.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The internet was sketchy sometimes. Cell phone coverage was off and on at times. But we were on vacation. And I enjoyed it.
It is true the water smells and tastes of iron. It comes from the iron-rich granite that holds the groundwater. Buy a few gallons of bottled water for coffee, drinking and for washing your hair (if you have bleached blonde hair, as one of our crew did, it might get a little red colored).
Larry is a great host. Enjoy Estes.
Thanks you for the review we enjoy your at our home. We are sorry about the water problem. As we all know Maine coastline is know for iron and odor in its water.
Our water service company (Water Treatment Equipment , a Culligan Dealer) has resolved the problem and we are back to normal.
We hope that you return to the beautiful state of Maine " The way life should be". Larry

Photo by Ben Williamson Population 4,815 Median household income $66,290 Percent of families below poverty level 5.7 Median Age 57.2 IT MAY BE MAINE’S MOST SCENIC and unspoiled peninsula (or rather, one proper peninsula and several peninsul-ish islands ), but Harpswell’s not just for tourists. With a property tax rate among the state’s lowest, an innovative charter school in Harpswell Coastal Academy, and unparalleled access to woods and waters, Harpswell makes a great hometown. The demographic profile matches much of the coast, affluent and aging, but for all the second homes that speckle the trident-shaped community, there are still plenty of working lobsterboats bobbing in spots like Cundy’s Harbor and Mackerel Cove. The grassy field in front of the latter is one of 14 scenic and semi-wild preserves protected by the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust, one of Maine’s older and more active land conservation organizations. The Trust is much admired by Harpswellians for privileging not just preservation but also recreation — volunteers have built an impressive trail system across the properties, and the Trust partners with the Harpswell Recreation Department to release a handy annual guide to trails and water access. Locals (and generations of visitors) breathed a sigh of relief in 2015 when new ownership took over Cook’s Lobster & Ale House on Bailey Island. Overlooking the famed Cribstone Bridge (its cobwork construction lets the tide come through), Cook’s went on the market in 2015, on the cusp of its 60th anniversary, and there was some question whether it would remain a restaurant. These days, you can grab a bar stool and some fried clams year-round and catch live music four nights a week in the summer, and the the legacy lobster shack’s periodic community fundraisers (Cook’s raised $10,000 for home heating assistance this winter) are emblematic of how salty, tight-knit Harpswell rolls.
