About Tony Halstead
We are a couple who live in the Seattle area and try to escape the big city to our cabin in the Methow Valley as often as possible. We are experienced in tackling remodeling projects and were particularly drawn to this 100-year-old cabin for its rich history, beautiful scenery and potential to make it a home-away-from-home.
Tony Halstead purchased this Cabin in 2004
Why Tony Halstead chose Winthrop
When visiting our cabin in spring, summer and fall, we love the fragrant pine smell while hiking our own trail that leads to the main MVSTA. Of course, the best part of visiting in the winter is the skiing. The snow is incomparable for cross country and skate skiing and the many miles of trails provide serene skiing with rarely bumping into other skiers. Our favorite haunts for shopping and dining are a short drive away to Winthrop. We also like going to the luxurious Sun Mountain Lodge for Sunday brunch.
What makes this Cabin unique
This old house was built in 1906 as the main ranch house on the Big Valley Ranch, which was then located three miles west of Winthrop. In 1990 the building was moved to this location and placed on a daylight basement foundation and remodeled as a guest house. We bought the cabin in 2004 and remodeled further to our taste, including the conveniences of modern living without losing its character. The yard is suitable for children and dogs. We hope you like it.

Great place and worked ideal for our group
We went to snowmobile so we needed individual beds. Some of the beds were small but that is ok since we were a group of guys going to ride the beautiful country in the area. We will be back.
we were able to get in early. as it was last year, we had a great time and had everything we needed. enjoyed access to the community trail.
Great house! Great location
Tony Halstead's Firefly house was excellent. Each family unit took a floor. The living room, dining area, kitchen is wonderful for interacting and the landing of the staircase became a stage for many musical and dance numbers. Appreciated the well-stocked cupboard so we didn't need to bring staples. We cooked all our meals and the pots, dishes and cutlery were perfect. We had a beautiful snowstorm and could see nothing but beauty from all angles of the house. The location is perfect, providing access to Mazama and the great Country Store as well as the higher elevation trails at Rendezvous and the Cub and Cougar areas. Tony responded quickly to our calls, we felt well taken care of. Thank you, Halsteds for your kindness and information. The Crew Wang Adler family
Great location, quiet but not to far from Mazama and Winthrop or the Mountains for Day hikes. Well stocked kitchen, good sized living area and dining room. Comfortable beds. Great chairs on the front porch to sit on and soak up the sun!!
This place is awesome!
Situated near Winthrop town and the northern cascades best destinations, I couldnt have picked any place better than this. :) The house is so spacious (4BR and 3bR), also has a splendid view of the mountains. The house has the vintage feel, not to mention awesome balcony at the back. Will return here in the winter!
Really nice cabin, ski to trail system
Lovingly updated, solid, and spotless cabin, with spacious bedrooms on three levels, well-stocked kitchen, great location a couple miles shy of the Mazama Country Store. Perhaps 4.5 stars because of limited living room, but the dining area easily handles 8-10 and there is more common space adjacent to the basement bedroom. Ski on private path through the woods to the tracked trail system. Owners were great to deal with. We plan to return next year.
