After looking for a year for a house with a view, we fell in love with this view of Puget Sound, the verdant islands and the snow on the mountains. We've lived in Seattle a long time and really enjoy West Seattle. It's close to downtown and the ferrys but it feels like you are in the country. There is a charming 'village' with antique shops and restaurants, farmer's market and we love to walk to the beach or the bistros. You'll know why they call this the Emerald City!
Kristen purchased this house in 2009
We purchased this house specifically because of the panoramic views and quiet location. We also wanted guest quarters for our family and friends who visit. When we don't have friends in the guest house - we rent it out to someone looking for a wonderful place to stay in our beautiful city.
We enjoy walking to the beach at Lincoln Park and in the summer riding our bikes or walking to the outdoor salt-water swimming pool. It's easy to walk to the bus-stop to go into downtown or drive there in about 15 minutes. On Sunday's we like to go to the farmer's market and picking up fruit and maybe a croissant from Bakery Nouveau. We are close to the airport and located between Seatac airport and downtown Seattle. On rainy days, there is plenty to do in the guest house. There are lots of books, games, computer and wifi, or you can curl up and watch a movie.
The whole experience was great! We loved the scones and "killer" bread. The information provided of things to do and see in Seattle was very helpful. We had a great time.
If you are looking for a quiet place to stay in Seattle with a beautiful view of Puget Sound, this is the perfect place. The two bedroom 1 bath unit has everything you need for a comfortable stay . The hosts live directly above the unit and are readily accessible should you need anything (which we didn't) Fully equipped kitchen, washer/ dryer, quick internet and cable TV are included as well as very comfortable beds and linens. Could not have been happier with our stay. Highly recommended !
Easy, calm, and perfect for our trip
We were doing a workshop that weekend and Kristin's place was the perfect place to come back to afterwards. It was peaceful and energetically and estheticly just right
Will definitely stay again if we meet again in Seattle!!!
My friend and I stayed in Kristen & Lance's guest house for a week while on a girls' trip. The cottage is the lower level of their home, and it is much larger than the photos appear. The view is as advertised!! We enjoyed several incredible sunsets. The kitchen is adequately stocked to cook meals - we cooked a wonderful dinner with goods bought at Pike's Market. We appreciated the coffee and pumpkin bread provided by our hosts (though our bakery addiction meant we didn't eat the pumpkin bread!). Kristen was also very generous in allowing us to keep access to the guest house on our final day because their next guests were not arriving that day and we had a red-eye flight.
Andy and Marley are an excellent welcoming committee, tails wagging always! Their (adorable) grandchildren were visiting during our stay, so there were some little feet we could hear running overhead, but Kristen and her family were extremely considerate of our presence below, Lance kept checking to be sure we weren't bothered.
West Seattle is a nice location from which to explore the area, with it's own charm, good restaurants and an excellent bakery in Bakery Nouveau. There is a notebook and guidebooks in the cottage to help with choosing where to eat, go, and what to do if you don't already have your whole trip planned. And Kristen offers additional great tips - such as suggesting we take the Chuckanut Bypass on our drive to Vancouver --spectacular.
We recommend the Puget Sound Express Whale Watching (departs from Edmonds - much closer to Seattle than other tours) - excellent family business, interesting naturalist on the boat, and homemade blueberry coffee cake to boot. Also recommend Bon Vivant Winery Tours - small group full day in Woodinville, visiting wineries tailored to your group's tastes.
A great vacation! Great city, beautiful part of the country. I would recommend the BlueSky Guest house as a comfortable, easy home base for exploring the area.
Thank you Kristen!
Everything was great. The home was comfortable , attractive and inviting. The view was breathtaking!
This property was everything that we had hoped it would be. The owners were fantastic, the location was beautiful, and I can think of nothing that we could have possibly needed that wasn't there, even down to the banana loaf beside the coffee pot!
We stayed here July 14 to Sept. 7. It had a great view of the water and the mountains. Could watch the ferry boats. Great sunsets! Kristin and Lance were great hosts. The property had lots of room. The beds were very comfortable. Take the water taxi to downtown Seattle. You can walk to Pike Peaks market. We liked Mashiko restaurant for Japanese food and Jack's for happy hour. We would recommend BlueSky to anyone.
The guest house is located in a quiet residential area with many trees and a panoramic view of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Take a walk on the sidewalks in our neighborhood (hilly) and see the views. A mile and a half from the the guesthouse is a gorgeous walk on the waterfront where you can watch the kite-surfers and the ferry's, walk along the beach and through Lincoln Park. Four blocks from the house is our local Pizza place or the gourmet grocery store. Just three blocks from the guest house is the highest point in Seattle, and wonderful playground with views of downtown Seattle and Puget Sound. It's easy to drive to downtown Seattle about 15 to 20 minutes away, or take the bus and visit Chinatown, the Chihuly Glass Garden and Space Needle, visit the marinas, or take a Ferry across Puget Sound to Vashon or Bainbridge Island.
