Romantic Hill Country Hideaway Nestled in the Heart of Texas

Bedrooms 1
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

A Hill Country retreat, perfect for a couple who want a secluded spot. Located on a bluff with a gorgeous view of the Texas Hills, it is a slice of heaven. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises, often when the fog rolls in creates a mystical feel. The cabin is very modern, build in 2004, with vaulted ceilings, french doors that open onto big covered deck with ceiling fans, rocking chairs and a private view of the hills, looks like the Ozarks.

The bedroom has a comfy queen bed with down comforter, designer linens, TV/DVD in living and bedroom, all the modern conveniences of home. There is a stone patio, the "Grotto" under the oak trees to watch deer, birdwatch, star gaze or have a peaceful moment with a good book.

The lake is a short 5 minute walk down the hill, has a limestone bottom, is turquoise blue and crystal clear. A perfect swimming hole. There is a floating dock with a boat ramp and the Cranes Mill marina rents ski boats and jet skiis, be sure and kayak over to party cove!

The world famous Guadalupe River is 10 minutes away and has the best rafting and tubing in the state. The Comal, 15 minutes in New Braunfels, is known for tubing and the river that likes to party.

The hills are a killer workout, and challenging for the avid cycler. The best of Texas music is 10-15 minutes away in Gruene, as well as the Canyon Lake Amphitheater

About The Owner

I am a native Texan and have always loved the hill country. But what I like the most is how beautiful the lake is and the Guadalupe too. My love for live music is one reason I bought the cabin, it is just down the street from Gruene Hall. Now with the live music venue at Canyon Lake, there is even more live music to enjoy. With my demanding schedule in the city, the second I drive down the road to my place, I relax. It is such a peaceful, calming retreat.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2006

Why The Owner chose Hill Country

I bought the casita to get out of Houston and to enjoy the outdoors. It was built in 2004 and was brand new when I bought it, the previous owner hardly ever used it. In the winter or summer there is always a lot to do. New Braunfels has several good restaurants, Wimberly is 12 minutes away, but most of all I like the feel of being in the heart of the Texas Hill Country! I built the stone patio at the end of a stone walkway to have a quiet place to meditate or turn on the twinkling lights at night and have dinner or a glass of wine. It is close to San Antonio and an hour from Austin...It is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I know you will enjoy it a much as I have.

What makes this cabin unique

I like relaxing, reading a good book and watching the deer and birds. The walks I take are a good work out, and sometimes I'll walk down to the lake at sunset and sit on the dock or go for a swim.

Never got to see the property...

  • 1 of 5

At first everything was great, the owner was gracious enough to allow us to reschedule our weekend after my wife came down with a severe case of the flu the night before our stay. She said we could also rebook it once more if needed. So based on this promise, we moved our stay to the following weekend.

However, when my wife was still very ill and unable to travel the following weekend, the owner abruptly said we could NOT change it again and demanded we go as planned or forfeit the reservation and payments. The *only* reason we picked the following weekend was because of her promise to accommodate us - otherwise we would have chosen something later in the year to be absolutely sure we could go.

To add insult to injury, I also see today that it appears the owner is making a 'damage claim' of $50 in order to keep our damage deposit, even though we never stayed at the house.

Bottom line, unbelievably disappointing and stressful...

I am in love!!

  • 5 of 5

Perfect weekend getaway with my husband. This place is so peaceful and relaxing. We sat on the deck every night by the chiminea, fed the deer, and star gazed. Gennaro's Trattoria was amazing Italian food. Granny D's serves the biggest pancake I've ever seen. We drove to Wimberly and shopped in the town square then headed to Gruene for wine tasting and lunch at the River Grill. I want to move there ASAP!

Wonderful Relaxing Getaway - Beautiful Home, Views and Property!!

  • 5 of 5

Exactly as described, exceeded expectations! The home was lovely and the deck and patio and yard even more so (nature lover's paradise). We enjoyed relaxing and enjoying this beautiful home. All our needs were met and then some. Gracious owner who gave the best advice on what/where to enjoy and make the most of her home and the surrounding area, highly recommend! Tip - bring a lil corn feed to sprinkle in the yard and see the most beautiful deer, morning and evening visits are sure to make your camera happy! (pretty sure they would make the rounds to this house w/o feed, but it was fun to wait to see if they did). We also brought a lil bird seed to entice the birds, saw more deer than birds ;-).
