Overview

About the property

Chalet, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

NO FIRE DAMAGE in this area!!

This chalet offers privacy with no other cabins in sight, but with a great view of Ober Gatlinburg from the screened back porch which has a swing and rockers for relaxing. It's located high enough to offer a nice view, without having to go up a lot of steep winding roads.

It's within 10 minutes of Dollywood and the public golf course and 10 minutes to great food and shows along the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. It even has a wedding chapel within walking distance.

There's a hot tub off the back porch and inside there's a jetted tub in the downstairs bathroom where 2 of the bedrooms are located. The third bedroom and 2nd bathroom are located upstairs. Each bedroom has a flat screen TV with DVD. For additional entertainment, there's a pool table upstairs.

Lamps and a bedspread in the chalet are designs of the Hautman Brothers who are wildlife artists with works in Smithsonian and the White House.

Why Jane Carver chose East

Nice view with privacy, but convenient to Dollywood, attractions along the Parkway in Pigeon Forge, the national park, & Gatlinburg.

What makes this chalet unique

Nice size porch (8' x 38') with rockers & swing to enjoy the mountain view. The porch is screened to keep out insects & a good place for pets to enjoy being outside without worrying about them wandering off or other animals attacking them.

Cozy cabin

  • 5 of 5

Although our trip was not for "vacation time" but forced due to the order evacuation for hurricane Irma from Miami Beach, FL, I must say I will be back for the solely purpose of vacationing. This cabin's location is great to escape to the stressful life of the city, close to main attractions, and entertainment. I must mention the amazingly kindness of the owners.

Thanks!

Piece and quiet

  • 5 of 5

My family enjoyed our stay! Andy was great! He sent us lots of information before we got there, their hospitality was the best. Thanks for a great weekend.

Owner's Response: Great guests. I really enjoyed them. No charge for the additional entertainment when bears tore into the "bear box" to get the trash. The "bear box" has been effective in keeping bears out in the past, but this mamma bear was very persistent & wanted to feed her 4 cubs, so we are making some modifications to the box so they scatter the trash all over the mountain.

Great Easter with Family

  • 4 of 5

We booked this sweet chalet for Easter weekend with family. What a great host Andy and Jane are! I've never had anyone (and I use rentals several times a year) give as much information as they did about the rental, it's location with specific directions to avoid the sometimes crazy traffic of The Smoky Mountain area, things to do in Pigeon Forge and surrounding areas and places to eat. We actually have a timeshare here, but it was affected by the recent fires, so we stayed here. They told us of places to eat that we'd never tried (though we come 2-3x/year), so that was nice. It was great to bring our dogs and enjoy true family time with three generations for Easter. A morning cup of coffee on that porch swing was a perfect way to start the day! I was concerned about the grade of the road up the mountain and then the drive, but it was certainly "doable" even in a truck. In fact, it was just right -- far enough up the mountain to feel you were in the mountains, but not but about 5-10 minutes from downtown Pigeon Forge. My only suggestion would be if you plan on cooking a lot, you might want to bring additional pots and pans as these were a bit limiting, but that's easy to do. We sometimes cook a lot and bring a favorite pot or pan anyway, but on this trip, it wasn't a big deal as we only cooked breakfast in the room and we were able to do that with the tools that were there. I would certainly recommend this cabin -- it's "Smoky Mountain Rustic" with bear and wildlife decor -- Welcome to The Smokies!

Owner's Response: Enjoyed having these guests & appreciate the input. I'll be going up to the cabin shortly & will do an inventory of cooking utensils. This is the 1st anyone has mentioned cooking utensils, so I'll check on that. I'm not sure what we may need. In the past, we had things "disappear" like spoons & even a couple of nice shower curtains, so I'm not sure if utensils have "disappeared", gotten outdated, or I just need to increase my inventory of cooking utensils, but appreciate the input so we can look for that. I'm not sure of the status of the time share, but hope they return to Dolly's Shadow (VRBO # 289723 or HomeAway.Com # 286242) so I can earn that 5th star. After writing my initial response which is shown above, the guest sent me an email & said she had tried to give a 5 star rating, but VRBO wouldn't allow her to change the rating. She did write the same review on another web site . On that web site, with the same review, she gave us a 5 star/bubble rating, but we will still do the updates she mentioned.

Dolly's Shadow very rustic, nestled on side of mountain.

  • 4 of 5

Found cabin to be just what I needed. I wanted to experience the off the beaten path but close to where I needed to be. It had everything everyone needed. Our business kept us very busy so mostly we used the cabin to sleep. There are some updates that could be done to appeal to those who like things less rustic.
