This property is as close to the ocean as is possible. There are only a few other properties along the coast which are as close to the ocean. Fall asleep and wake up the to gentle, soothing sounds of the ocean!
Surf, swim and walk or jog on the beach from this coastal retreat in the harbor town of Oceanside. This is a one bedroom, one bath and is fully furnished with all amenities cable, Internet, phone and free laundry room. You can wake to the sound of the surf and have breakfast overlooking the blue Pacific. The unit is walking distance to the pier, harbor, shopping and dining with freeway and transit service minutes away. Local attractions such as Legoland, Zoo and Sea World are within 30 minutes from this 'Cottage by the Sea' Stay a week or a month and 'Make the most of the Coast'.
Closet property to the water!! : This unit is the closet property to the water, along the Oceanside beach. There are only a few properties/units that are as close.
The views are magnificent!! The sounds, smells and sensations of the ocean are a constant reminder that you are at the beach. Fall asleep and awake to the sounds of the ocean without having to open the door and go outside!!

Great place. Right on the Water and boardwalk
Place was perfect location at end of boardwalk, so not crazy amount of people and traffic, but close enough to everything owner has it down to a science and does a great job

a very cute cottage, with marvelous views. to our surprise there were buggy boards and even 2 surfboards we were allowed to use.

Great Location. Cottage has seen better days.
The location was great, just south of Wisconsin at the southern end of the Strand with less traffic than the northern end. The closest building to the surf along the Strand. Hearing the ocean was fantastic. Many eateries in walking distance. Street parking not an issue. The size of the cottage was good, bed comfortable.
Issues with electrical power, overall cleanliness, sewer gas smell and excessive animal odor from the futon made for a less than ideal stay. Contacted Patrick (maintenance), he opened the crawl space, the additional air flow helped, but the root issue was never addressed.
Too bad, because with proper care and maintenance this really could be a great vintage cottage. Instead it will probably be sold, demolished and another multi-unit high-rise will replace it, loosing the charm of Oceanside and instead becoming another one of the modern beach communities of SoCal.

As noted in all of our advertising this is a Beachfront Cottage - closest to the water/ocean. It is a best fit for a "Budget Traveler". It is older/vintage. In no way do we represent that this property is new or newer.
Based your feedback, Patrick has repaired the electrical issues and the futon cover has been replaced. Also, the sewer gas smell has been fixed.
All of our care and maintenance is ongoing as the issues come to our attention. Sometimes our cleaning people detect the issue and sometime our Vacationers bring it to our attention. Also, since our support staff only lives 1.5 blocks away, any time that there are any issues our staff can be at the property quickly to address any issue.
"Vintage" = Obsolete
The first star is for location, the second for the view and the sound of the waves which we loved. We were greatly disappointed in the actual structure and "amenities". We drove by the rental the week before staying and found a For Sale sign attached to the front of the cottage which appeared unkept. We called Eric on the phone and he assured us that all was well, but I can only describe his tone as condescending and sarcastic. He offered to see if he could rent to someone else - if he could we would still lose our deposit. If not, we would lose the entire cost. We chose to chance staying. I did read the reviews (check 04, 08, 10 & 12 of 2017), but did not add all the complaints together. The issues were all, still NOT addressed. Points that had been addressed in previous reviews - #1 The stove. STILL only 3 burners, no oven. Patrick texted us the day we arrived that a new stove had been ordered and would be installed the next day. A review response in December reported that a new stove had been installed in response to that review. NOT! #2 Shower handle still VERY difficult to use. We were unable to get water even after Patrick texted that we should "slowly pull handle out". Patrick came with WD-40 which helped. #3 The pillows and mattress are still "gnarly" as mentioned in April review - stained and smelly. Washed the bedding and put a thin quilt under the mattress pad which helped. Did NOT use the pillows. #4 Power outage mentioned in Oct 2017 could have been caused by very corroded outlet behind the head of the bed. The bottom plug sparked and did not work. We had to plug a CPAP machine into the top plug which was a bit frightening since there was no outlet cover and the outlet box was packed with dust. As the 10-17 review stated, " We learned what vintage really means – not the rust (which we think is normal for a house that is exposed to salt water), but ancient dust and dirt in some areas, very clean in others." There was black mold on the wall and floor behind head of bed and in many window wells. I have never left a bad review on Homeaway in the past 5 years. There is a profile on my reviews which can be checked. We really felt like these complaints from reviewers over the past 9 months have not been addressed.
I’ve owned this property for 30+ years and have rented this property both as a long term rental and as a Vacation Rental for the past 10 years. We get Vacationers/renters from all over the world and all have different values. Some read our ad/posting and ask questions and some don’t. As we note in our ad, this property is a best fit for a budget traveler.
The vast majority of our Vacationers raves about our Beachfront Cottage and most come back to it every year. Frequently, our Vacationers will come back with other family members who rent our other units.
Note that I am always available to answer questions that may arise from a Vacationer and if the property may be suitable for them. Most of the time, if a Vacationer has questions if a property might be suitable, e.g. “a fit for them”, they ask it prior to booking our property. In this case the Vacationer asked began asking her questions 3 days before checking in.
We never make any representation that this is a five (5) star property. It is quite clear from our posting that is an older property and a budget vacation destination. However, it is clear from this Vacationer’s review that she was highly critical of this property and that she expected a more upscale property. Many of the claims that this Vacationer made, via this review, were inspected and oddly enough were found Not to be valid and most importantly were not corroborated by the Vacationer that checked in after her and is still there!! This current Vacationer loves our Beachfront Cottage and has booked again for next year!! That is, no mold, outlet is covered; pillows and bedding are fine, etc.
Due to many issues, some maintenance issues are fixed and then re-occur. We immediately respond to any issues Vacationers communicate to us. We can do this because our support staff lives 1.5 blocks away from the property. We clean and inspect the property prior to every rental and respond to any issues. Most of the times – after cleaning – our Vacationers don’t have any issues. To put this in perspective, over the past 10 years and about 1500 Vacationers, most of the reviews that we receive have been quite positive, only a few were negative.
We are sorry that this Vacation was critical of our property. We advise that in the future, their goals are best served by calling the owner-prior to renting-and describe their situation/expectation, to see if they and the owner feel the property is "a fit" for them.
This is a Vintage Beachfront property with magnificent ocean views. It is a Stand alone cottage without another tenant next to, below, above or behind. Many tenants report that it is quite romantic.
