About the property

Apartment, Studio, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This beautiful apartment is literally situated in one of the best districts and streets in Paris.

Filled with light and with a feeling of calm & serenity, this apartment exudes history and charm. The building dates from the 16th Century, the famous French revolutionary Marat lived in this building and Picasso lived and worked in the building next door.

Right opposite the apartment are two of the best French restaurants in Paris and in one is the place where the young King Louis XIII was crowned one hour before the death of his father Henry IV (see photos).

We have just completely refurbished the apartment with great effort and taste and there is a brand new kitchen and a beautifully spacious bathroom with a very large and powerful shower. You will also find a once again brand new King size bed that is extremely comfortable with 100% Egyptian cotton linen with a high thread count. There is a flat screen TV, hi-fi, high speed wireless internet and DVD player as well as an ipod connection. The apartment is fitted with a secure access code for your security. Set back from the street it also looks onto a very quiet inner courtyard so it is completely silent yet just seconds from all the vibrant atmosphere of St Germain. Furthermore, it is a one minute walk from the Metro St Michel that links you directly to the airport CDG and the Gare du Nord so it extremely easy to get to.

Rue des Grands Augustins is a wonderfully quiet street with almost no traffic as it is so narrow. At one end you have the river Seine with spectacular views over the famous Eglise de Notre Dame. On the other end of the street the winding magical streets of the historic St. Germain unfold. The bars, restaurants, tea shops and boutique shops are all within a stones throw of the apartment. You are just 3/4 minutes walk from the famous Rue de Buci its famous flower market and endless delicious brasseries which spill over onto the street. The Boulevard de St Germain , famous for its extensive clothes shopping is again only a couple of minutes walk. There is an organic supermarket around the corner and furthermore all the essential amenities such as Pharmacies, food markets and supermarkets are all within very close proximity.

This really is a gem of an apartment and anyone who rents it, has always been be very happy here!

We will let you know our favourite places to go nearer the time!

About Mcveigh Dorrie

I am married to a Frechman Jerome and together him and I live more or less between London and Paris. I am British but originally from New York in the USA although I have lived almost my entire life in the UK. We have two young children, our daughter Noa who is 7 yrs old and a little boy Oskar who is 3 years old. We are both passionate about Paris and this is very much a family run business run entirely by Jerome and I.

Mcveigh Dorrie purchased this apartment in 2010

Why Mcveigh Dorrie chose Monnaie

We bought this apartment in St Germain because there is really no other area like it. Some people refer to this area as the 'Golden Triangle' of Paris as it is the most sought after area with all of its history and charm. St Germain has a wonderful combination of rambling magical streets with some of the best restaraunts in Paris whilst also having the Boulevard de St Germain with all its famous clothes shops and Brasseries. It is also directly linked to both the Gare du Nord and the major airports by train.

What makes this apartment unique

To stay in this apartment is to stay in a wondefully quiet and cosy apartment that is also very bright and airy. It is the best location in Paris with the River Seine at the end of your street and all the most famous bars and restaurants of Paris on your doorstep. Picasso used to live on this street as well as the famous French revolutionary Marat.

Make sure some things are better cleaned next time.

The dirty rag rug does not protect floors and detracts from apartment cleanliness. We rolled it up and hid it under the bed to make the apartment more attractive. Also check on the cleanliness of dishes. We needed to wash everything we ate off of when we arrived.

Four Star Apartment. Five Star Location

  • 4 of 5

All in all, my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay in this studio apartment. The location, as many have said, is wonderful. The apartment is in a secure building on a very quiet, safe street near the Seine in one direction and the lively Rue de Buci in the other. Convenient to RER and a couple Metro stations and a short walk to many sites, including Louvre, Palais Royal, Latin Quarter, Saint-Germain, Sainte-Chappelle, Notre Dame.

Owner and property manager were very good at communicating via email prior to our arrival, but we never met either of them. We spoke by phone with Pierre, the property manager, upon our arrival. (His English is excellent, better than my French.) The apartment itself is more than adequate: small, but not tiny, clean and functional, with a comfortable bed (sometimes described as a king, but I believe it is would be a queen in the US). The wifi worked fine. The television had no remote, which Pierre told us about, We could turn it on manually, but I couldn’t figure out how to get any broadcast. It was not important enough to contact the property manager, and we never gave it a second thought. Bathroom is nice, though the shower door is not well sealed, so water gets on the floor. Pierre warned us of this. Landline phone allowed free calls to the U.S. We didn’t use the stove or the washer, but it was nice to know they were there if needed.

My wife and I are 60 years old and in pretty good shape, but I must admit that navigating three flights of winding, steep, uneven stairs was a bit of an ordeal, especially at the end of the day after walking 8 to 10 miles. Ten years ago, it probably would not have been an issue for us. C’est la vie.

Small unit, but nice and clean. Unit was on the 3rd floor and very secured. The unit was in the best location. We walked to the Latin Quarter, Notre Dame, and the Metro was a 5 minute walk. We were met a the unit by Pierre who gave us instructions about the unit and the area. He also was available by phone anytime. Nice man. I would definitely rent this place again and recommend to family and friends.

a clean, well-lighted place

  • 5 of 5

Though the neighborhood can get hectic with tourists, students and shoppers, this apt is on a quiet, historic street, steps from the Seine, great bakeries, galleries, restaurants, food shops and 2 Metro stations. Up the winding stone stairway, the studio is serene and looks out over rooftops with nice natural light. It is clean, comfortable and well arranged, with good lighting and simple but adequate amenities. The white walls and decor give it an open, spacious feel.

Perfect location!

  • 3 of 5

Fantastic location, great access to everything and transit to everywhere. The space is comfortable and works well for two people. Felt safe.

Think they are transitioning with new housekeeping so don't hesitate to ask for extras like toilet paper, dish soap, etc. (We bought our own).

Convenient, quiet location and comfort

  • 5 of 5

There's a lot to love about this tidy, quiet, bright, well-appointed apartment in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, but perhaps the most wonderful thing about it is the location. The neighborhood is very residential and homey but an extremely short walk to the Seine, Pont Neuf, Notre Dame, the bustling Latin Quarter, and other tourist sights. It is a short walk to several Metro stops that will easily take you everywhere else in the city. We have been to Paris several times and can't think of a better base from which to explore the city.

The apartment itself is very clean and comfortable, with a firm bed, nice light and breeze from the large window, plenty of cookware, and great water pressure in the shower.

We were fortunate to meet the friendly owner Jerome and also interact with the property manager Pierre when we had questions (make sure that upon check-in, you get the low-down on the 'double-locking' outer door and the self-locking washer). Both were extremely helpful and accommodating during our stay as well as prior to our stay, in terms of check-in logistics (and they waited for us for check-in when our flight was late) and suggestions for where to eat in the local neighborhood.

If you are looking for a quickie food recommendation, we absolutely loved the Restaurant Chez Le Libanais on Rue St. Andre des Arts.

One last thing: others have mentioned the 3 flights of stairs to the apartment. It's true that the stairs take effort and caution, and as a result, this place would not be appropriate for folks with mobility issues. But although we are by no means uber-fit people (one of us is pregnant), we didn't consider the stairs a hardship. We were fortunate to have help from Jerome in bringing our bags up when we arrived.

Other than the mobility issues, we recommend this apartment without reservation!
