At the entry way, and around the property, are enormous granite rock outcroppings. The home has accents inside and out of granite stones, a redwood paneled master bath, oak mantels, all harvested from the property. The polished concrete floors keep the home cool in the hot summer, and help maintain the warmth in the cold winter months. The ceilings are beamed and finished in pine. Located minutes from Yosemite, Bass Lake, and Oakhurst. Outside living areas include outdoor dining table and comfy chairs, lounges around the pool, and Adirondack chairs at the river. Cook outside on the outdoor grill or cook up a storm in the stainless steel kitchen. Appliances include Viking induction stove, Thermador convection ovens, and more. Sit under the granite rock waterfall in the built-in pool ledge, or jump off a 3' rock into the pool. Of course, you could swim a lap or float in the pool as you soak in the sun. Dip your toes in the river & watch the red-tail hawks glide between trees.

Hang-out in your chair until sunset & watch a deer, rabbit or possibly raccoon come to the river. After you’ve hiked Yosemite park, return home & soak your muscles in the ground level round jetted spa next to the swimming pool. Stroll to the end of the property, walk on the golf course, & shag a couple of lost golf balls on your way. Play a round of golf, or enjoy a sandwich at the rustic clubhouse, which is also adorned in granite & pine decor. Head on back to the river, grab a volleyball & couple of friends & hit the ball around the sandy beach volleyball court. Feel the cool sand between your toes. Maybe perch yourself on a granite rock & reflect on when Miwok Indians used the grinding stones to make meal, or give it a try yourself. Set up the croquet set & play a round with your mates. The river is more like a creek in August & September, so there is a lot more sandy area to explore.

Some say there’s gold in that river. So, try your luck at panning for some gold right out your door. Maybe a nice nugget for your jewelry box, or a couple flakes as a memento of your trip. Of course, we are not making any promises and do be careful of all the fools gold in the river! If the season's right, pick some fruit out of the trees, or berries. Cut a sprig of rosemary, an iris, rose, lavender, or wild-flower or two for the bud vase in the bathroom or kitchen. Before you head home, or on to your next destination, give the laundry room a work out and pack your bags with clean clothes. Of course, if you want to extend that vacation feeling, there is a local cleaner close by. If you have been able to resist the tire swing, take a spin or two before you leave. Maybe your last night could be spent sleeping in the hammock in the trees. Sign the guest book, and we’ll keep a light on for your next visit.

About Fred Lange

We have been visiting this area with our children, several times a year, for about 15 years. We enjoy the majesty of Yosemite, and have been Season's Pass holders at the Badger Pass Ski Area, located inside Yosemite Park, for many years. We have been fortunate to be able to explore the National Parks and natural beauty of the Western US and Canada over the years, but have always been drawn to Yosemite as our 'Home Base'.

During our many trips to this area, we have often sought out the Real Estate magazines and pondered ownership of a slice of paradise for our visits. In 2010, we finally took the plunge to buy, and envision many years of enjoying gatherings of family and friends at our home called 'Riverbend'.

We hope that our guests will also enjoy the peace, tranquility and beauty that beckons at Riverbend. It gives us great pleasure to share our home in this very special region.

Fred Lange purchased this house in 2010

Why Fred Lange chose Yosemite Area

It's truly one-of-a-kind!

Caveat Emptor! Do not waste your money!

  • 1 of 5

This house is in dire need of some serious updating and is not very clean or sanitary. We could tolerate the dirty kitchen cabinets, dated wood paneling, and the Brady Bunch inspired dining room table. However, the tiny sunken bathtub surrounded by the unsightly collection of plants and the menagerie of insects they attract was a bit too retro for us. My wife did not appreciate having insects crawl on her as she soaked in the bathtub. Additionally, the mattress in the master bedroom is very old and worn. The edges collapse and the bed squeaks loudly. We wanted to use the grill to barbecue some meat. Unfortunately, frogs had taken over the grill. These slimy reptiles carry salmonella. This was not exactly appetizing. Frogs have also taken over the pool. Not surprising, considering all the debris in and around it. Our kids had to avoid the edges of the pool fearing that spiders and frogs would jump on them. The hammocks were riddled with bird droppings and tree sap.

The bathrooms were not cleaned properly.  We found dirt and urine splatter between the toilet seat and tank. Also, many of the pillows and beanbags were crusty and dirty. The house has central air. However, it is an older unit and is extremely loud. Consequently, several family members had trouble sleeping. The original flooring has been replaced with polished concrete flooring. It extremely slippery when wet and poses a serious safety concern for children and elderly. We had several close calls. Potential renters should also know that this house is located about two hours from Yosemite Village. Thus, if you are planning a trip to Yosemite, this location is not the most pragmatic choice. Also note that there are two properties on the lot. Moreover, there is a small barn about 60 feet away from the main house. It is occupied by permanent tenants. Thus, if it is privacy that you desire, look elsewhere.

To make matters worse, the owner decided to keep our entire security deposit. He claims that we checked out late and that we left trash for the housekeeper to clean up. Please keep in mind that the owner (Fred) lives in San Francisco and never inspected the property himself. We have never encountered any establishment that has penalized us for checking out a few minutes late. Clearly, this is the owner's custom and practice. My guess is that he does this every time to augment his income. He also charged us an additional $600 to heat the pool during our one week stay... Classy.

Wow - what a spectacular property! Felt like we were staying at our own personal resort for the week. The outdoor deck and pool lounging areas were so comfortable and inviting with beautiful views of the river, natural areas and mountains. Great way to enjoy the Yosemite area and have such a wonderful retreat to come back to and relax at the end of the day and enjoy a few restful days from hiking and travel. The rock lined pool and hot tub are really special. Fred answered a few check-in questions immediately. Also love how everything is organized and labeled with clear directions for the many amenities. Oakhurst shopping and restaurants 10 minutes away. Yosemite Valley is 90 minutes, but Wawona, Fish Camp, and Bass Lake attractions are much closer. Could not have asked for a more perfect vacation rental.

Place is even better than it looks in the pictures

  • 5 of 5

A really rare combination of location, functionality and overall atmosphere. Well maintained house situated right on the river bank. There is so much to do in and around the house that you should accommodate some time in your vacation plan for staying around the house and enjoying nature and the house amenities. We were 12 guests (4 adults, 8 kids) and there was plenty of room for everyone. The owner was very responsive to any questions and concerns we had during our stay. There is a large and well equipped kitchen and there are multiple grocery stores at Oakhurst, about 10 minutes drive.

Beautiful Home! Loved it !

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the Riverbend home with couple other families during Presidents Day weekend and had a great time . The house was perfect for our group of 12 . Nice and spacious, has a game room with a pool table,X box and lot of boardgames. The highlight was the Fresno river right behind the house ,it was full after the heavy rains when we were there and was so beautiful ! Would love to go back again in summer !

Perfect Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 10 spent Thanksgiving week at Riverbend. It turned out to be the perfect place. The home is large enough to easily accommodate the 6 adults and 4 children (ages 8-3) and had activities for everyone. The house is beautiful with everything to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The kitchen was very well equipped. (Note that you should bring any staples or condiments that you might need. There are large supermarkets conveniently located in Oakhurst.) The grounds are a childs' fantasy, where they can run and climb to their hearts' content and enjoy nature. On the last day our eight year old grandson was anxiously awaiting to pan for gold. He had to wait, because we were having so much fun on the tire swing. I told him that there was a possibility that we wouldn't find anything. "Why?" he asked. He clearly expected to find gold. It turned out that there was so much fools gold in the river, that one could see it just lying in the water! It was one of the best Thanksgivings and family vacations ever. The children still talk about our stay and ask when we can go again. The next time we'd love to go when it's warm so that we can take advantage of the all the outdoor amenities. It's a place that we'd be content to just stay and enjoy all it has to offer, and not need to leave. The owner was great and responsive to all our inquiries. We're looking forward to another stay at Riverbend.

You Will Never Want to Leave!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 10, 7 adults and 3 children, were in awe of this property. Absolutely loved the Great Room!!! So warm and cozy!

The home exceeded our expectations. The game room, pool table, ping pong and numerous board games were a hit with everyone. Even pans for panning for gold. Which was a highlight for the little ones. Thank you Fred and Lynne for sharing your beautiful home with us. It was difficult for us to depart. We look forward to returning. Cheri G-Camarillo Ca

Car: necessary

Ahwahnee, Yosemite Area, Gold Country & High Sierra, California, USA -- Ideally located near Yosemite, one of the wonders of the planet that you must visit in your life-time. The home is minutes to Oakhurst, a small city with small town charm, but with many of the conveniences of a large city. You'll also find some great art, antiques and fun things to do there. With a river running through the property, this is a one-of-a-kind location. Yes, it's all about location, location, and location. This property also has a paved road all the way to the garage, which is often hard to find in the mountains around Yosemite. Within a couple of blocks from the home, you'll find an old school house that has been converted to an art school. Maybe there is some room in a class, or maybe you could drive about 10 minutes to pick up a cooking class at Chateau du Sureau.

Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, snowboarding, wildlife viewing, horseshoes, boating, cross country and downhill skiing, snowmobiling, health/beauty spa

Golf: River Creek Golf Course at edge of the property.

Additional golf courses w/i a short drive!

Ski: Badger Pass Ski Resort

In Ahwahnee, CA, we are at 2,250 ft. elevation, so our weather is a little milder than Yosemite Park.
