Luxury awaits you! Our perfect vacation property is three blocks to the beach at Donner Lake. There is access to public piers so you can sit on sunny days and soak in the stunning views of Donner Lake. The ceilings are soaring with tree views from every window. The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped with your every need and offers stainless steel appliances and a wonderful griddle which is great for the aspiring chef...make pancakes in the morning to steaks at night. Our home is comfortably furnished. We keep it very clean and everything is up to date. There is no carpeting.
Please note that **WE DO NOT OFFER A SKI LEASE OPTION.** The house will be fully occupied after January 1st.
There are 4 bedrooms. One with a king bed and another with a queen. The other 2 rooms are by a sitting room with flat screen tv. Those rooms each have bunk beds and both can sleep 3. One has a twin bunk bed set and a separate twin bed. The other has a full bed below and a twin bunk above.
We have a two car garage and parking spaces in front of our home. Snow plowing in the winter is included. We are located within five minutes from Sugar Bowl Ski Resort and Donner Summit, and approximately 20 minutes to Squaw Valley, Alpine, and Northstar Ski Resorts plus thirteen miles to Lake Tahoe! Squaw Valley and North Star Resorts also have pools, ice skating, and spa facilities.
In the summer enjoy the public West End beach, just a 10 minute walk away or short drive. There are picnic tables, playground areas, and a beach volleyball court. There are also numerous public docks where you can try your hand at fishing or just be lazy and catch some sun.
Slightly closer, a 5 to 10 minute walk away (0.3 miles), is the private homeowners beach. Unfortunately, this beach is no longer available to our renters.
If you are more adventurous, there are numerous places all over Tahoe to hike, rent boats, kayaks, jet skis, and bikes. A fun activity to try also is tubing down Truckee River.
The closest supermarket is Safeway in Truckee. It is 5.4 miles from the house. There is also a small local market if you don't want to leave the lake area. It is about 3 miles from the house on main road along the north side of the lake, at 13710 Donner Pass Rd.
We are located within five minutes to downtown Truckee, where you can enjoy shopping and dining in the quaint historic town. Or venture further to Tahoe City, or even at the newly opened Ritz Carlton at North Star. Add the Reno nightlife and entertainment, and International Airport are just thirty five minutes away...What more could you need? Come and enjoy our beautiful home. Your home away from home.

After a 2 year hiatus, we are bringing Conifer House back to the rental market. We have enjoyed it ourselves and done some renovations, and are ready to share it again with you.
Chris purchased this house in 2010
We wanted a place to go back to, year after year, that was family friendly and about simple relaxation. This reminds us of the classic Lake Tahoe, before commercialization and crowds. Donner Lake offers all the typical activities of a lake, yet on a more intimate scale. It is also easier to access since it is closer to San Francisco and the major freeways. We have discovered our year round destination, where gorgeous beauty awaits in all seasons. The snow is pristine and stunning in the winter, with easy access to numerous ski resorts and sledding opportunities. And the sun and lake offer wonderful nature hikes, canoeing, and beach activities in the summer.

Here is an excerpt from an article entitled 8 Perfect Summer Lake Towns in Yahoo Travel by Beth Collins:
This year, skip Lake Tahoe and head 16 miles south to Donner Lake's warmer water temperatures and small-town atmosphere. Originally an Old West town (you can still visit the original 1875 jailhouse), Truckee is a great base for exploring the lake's many outdoor activities—lately, stand-up paddleboarding is the sport of choice. Truckee also has a growing local art scene—a slew of new galleries has opened recently, including Riverside Studios, which sells pottery, jewelry, and clothing made by a collective of area artists, and Carmel Gallery, home to Olof and Elizabeth Carmel's impressionistic prints and photographs. Whatever your plans, carb up first with the All Day Addiction, a concoction of hash browns, avocado, Canadian bacon, and two eggs, at 1940s-style diner Jax at the Tracks. Later, you can relive your adventures over a Base Camp Golden Ale at Fifty Fifty Brewing Co., where all the beers are brewed in-house, and watch the sun set over the water from the redwood deck at Loch Leven Lodge.
Backcountry trail from Sugar Bowl ends at our house. Our girls use it as a sledding run and our black lab gets tons of exercise back there!
Inside, we have a dry sauna - wonderful and relaxing after a long day on the slopes!
This house is in a great location in the Donner Lake area. We were lucky to have a pretty decent snowfall during our stay, and waking up every morning to new snow was great for us and the kids. There is a nice backyard for exploring, and a fun sledding area just two short blocks away. The house has steerable sleds that the kids really loved.
The owner is very accommodating, and was flexible with letting us check-in a day early to beat the storm. The kitchen has decent cooking hardware, and the owner makes their pantry available which is nice in case you forget to bring certain items.
The updated wing of the house has the two bigger bedrooms and a newly renovated bathroom. Very nice. The other side of the house has the TV room and smaller bedrooms on that side. The bunkbeds were not put together for our stay, and you could tell these rooms were quite a bit older. Same goes with the bathroom on this side.
The living and common space in this house is where things really shine. My extended family was able to hang out all together, and enjoyed the fireplace that could be turned on with a flick of a switch.
We had a great winter holiday vacation at this spacious house at Donner Lake. The pictures of the property are accurate and the great room, dining room and kitchen are perfect shared space for our family to hang out and cook together. The house is well equipped with great beds, blankets, towels and cooking appliances. We had a great time hiking and sledding the mountain trail behind the property and taking a drive up to Donner Pass for an excellent view. It was just a short drive to many great activities in North Tahoe - snowshoeing, hiking, skiing and horseback riding. Thanks for making your home ours!
Our experience was quite the opposite. When we booked this place the calendar was clear thus I'm surprised at the number of reviews below. When we arrived the smell of dog urine permeated the lower part of the house and into the bedrooms upstairs (those that were immediately above the garage.) Cleanliness was marginal and items were left in so so condition from either the owners or previous vacationers, i.e., there was no propane to operate the grill and whatever had been grilled before was still on there, albeit with some added fur (yuk!) The front deck was pretty much unusable as it was loaded with dirt and the table and chairs are nothing you'd want to sit in. The photos are relatively accurate for the property.
We're frequent renters in the Donner and Tahoe area and it's our experience that there are a number of better properties at more reasonable rates.
The description was accurate as to the great location. The photos were super and showed the home well. This property was very clean and well maintained.
It was nice having the nice kitchen, especially the large grill and excellent appliances. The long dining table was able to accommodate our group well.
We thoroughly enjoyed the back patio and the private serene back area of beautiful trees and rocks. It was hard to leave as we had a fabulous time and apppreciated the home so much.
The owner did answer questions to my satisfaction.
I would highly reccomend this property to friends and relatives.
The nearby activites we enjoyed were the lake and beach, as we had a boat and jet ski's to enjoy each day.
We just returned from 4 perfect days at Donner Lake with our family and friends. The house is open, clean and contemporary, yet has a mountain feel. It has large spaces for entertaining and can seat big groups for dinners both inside and out. We appreciated the front and back deck locations (and furniture) which we used throughout the day and into the evenings. The bedrooms are grouped as adult and kids wings with bathrooms on each side and a half bath near the kitchen. A TV watching room with couch is near the kids bedrooms (with the bunkbeds). The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, and there were lots of bath towels available. Everyone you stayed at the house as well as our friends who visited thought it was one of the best houses they had seen at Donner. The house is a short walk to both the private and public beach. We have always loved the west end of Donner and will be back to this lovely and well appointed house. The owners were also responsive to questions we had while staying at the house. Thanks again for a lovely visit.
We did a spur of the moment trip this past weekend and had an AMAZING time. We knew we weren't going to ski, we just needed to get away from home and have a nice relaxing weekend which this home is PERFECT for!!!! We pretty much stayed in the house the whole weekend and my favorite part was just being curled up on the couch by the fire reading a book. The owners were very nice and available if we needed them. We would love to go back again! Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful spacious home!!!!!!
