About the property

3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6-7

Update: We now have hardwood floors and new carpet in the cabin.

If you like mountain views, then look no further. From practically every room in the cabin, you have incredible views of pastureland and mountains stretching to the sky. Don't be fooled by some cabins that use a zoom lens to showcase their view, only to arrive and find it underwhelming. You will not be disappointed!! Watch summer storms sweep across the fields, see Brasstown Bald get covered by snow in the winter, or just take in the serenity of a sunset that sets the fall foliage aglow with yellows and reds. The location is incredibly peaceful, the cabin is nestled in the woods and the sounds of songbirds will greet you every morning. Mooing cows in the adjacent field add a special touch to the overall feel.

The porch of our cabin has an average high in the low 80s, even in the middle of this brutal heat wave! The porch is in full shade and faces north, which means you can sit outside all summer in total comfort!

Please note: the stairs in the cabin are a bit steep and might not be suitable for elderly or disabled visitors.

Around the cabin: The cabin is situated on one acre, however with the fields in front of you it feels like one hundred. Walk down the stairs to the front of the property and sit on the log swing-set, roast marshmallows around the fire pit, or take one of the most picturesque walks you can imagine down the country road out front. This is not a through road, so there is little traffic that will distract you from the natural surroundings. A short walk will take you past aged barns, babbling mountain streams, and, of course, splendid views of Track Rock Valley and the Choestoe area. This road would also be perfect for bicycles or a quick jog.

Recent renovations include central heat and air, new tongue and groove wood, a brand new metal roof (sounds great when it rains) and a full renovation of the kitchen with all stainless steel appliances.

Choestoe: Choestoe is an old Indian word meaning 'Land of the Dancing Rabbits.' However, if you ask any of the locals you will know it is synonymous with one of the most beautiful areas in the North Georgia mountains. Before you even arrive at the cabin, you will know you are some place special. No matter which direction you come from, the drive up to the cabin is incredibly scenic with mountains in every direction.

  • 3 Bedrooms, Sleeps 7
  • Master - 1 queen
    Downstairs - 1 double
    Smaller - 1 twin/ single
  • There are three bedrooms, the master has a queen and its own bathroom. Also on the top floor is a smaller bedroom with a twin size bed and its own private porch (this porch can only be accessed from the bedroom and not from outside of the cabin). This bedroom would be perfect for one adult or a child. Downstairs there is a third bedroom, it has a full size bed and its own large porch with spectacular views of the mountains. The bathroom is on the main floor, and would require a walk up the stairs. On the main floor, there is a large sofa, a love seat, and a very large inflatable air mattress. We used to have sleeper sofas but they weren't very comfortable at all, so this air mattress is much more comfortable for our guests. This cabin affords great privacy because there are three separate floors, which helps to isolate the noise.

The cabin includes everything you will need, just show up with your clothes and food. We use it often, and therefore it has amenities like paper towels, spices, sugar, flour, many different cooking utensils, a coffee grinder and a nice coffee maker, plus high end appliances. There is a 42' HDTV, there is a Wii video game system that also has Netflix Streaming, giving you access to over 10,000 movies and TV shows. There is a propane grill on the porch, and you will have trouble finding a more beautiful place to grill. There is wireless high speed Internet that works throughout the property...sit on the swing and check your email! There is also a hammock, firepit, and children's swing-set. To preserve living space, the stairs in the cabin are rather steep and might not be suitable for elderly renters. We have rented to many people and never had a complaint, but feel free to ask if you are concerned.

Sightseer's Paradise

  • 4 of 5

Brittany and I visited the Choestoe Hideaway in Blairsville for 3 nights - November 18-20, 2017. 26 years old and fresh meat in the real-world, this remote cabin was a perfect place to getaway as a young couple.

The Hideaway is perfectly located because it is central to several towns that offer more fun than 2 people can have in 3 days. The ~20 mile drive to surrounding towns, Blue Ridge, Helen, and Dahlonega, was exhilarating to say the least.

My favorite part of this trip may have been in the Jeep Wrangler, handling the twists and turns of Hwy. 180 while traversing Blood Mountain. Or watching the Chattahoochee River cut through the town of Helen, as it has done since the beginning of Time.

Taking a guess, I would say that Brittany's favorite part of this trip was grilling steaks and playing Scrabble by the fire Sunday night. Either that, or "looking" in every single store that Helen had to offer.

The house was perfect for us and my complaints are minimal. If you are a charcoal-kinda-guy, don't let the gas grill fool you - that joker will get hot if you can get it lit. We had burnt steak Sunday night, but I guess that is partially the grill operators error.

Another heads-up is that the floors are somewhat unlevel and there are weak spots in certain areas. Don't get me wrong the building is structurally secure, but it'll take your equilibrium for a spin if you're not careful.

Thanks for a great, comfortable stay.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Reese and Brittany

It turned out that reality was considerably at odds with what was on the website. Not recommended

  • 2 of 5

The first thing we noticed was the wall –to-wall carpeting which was filthy, but that may have simply been the impression created by several large, dark stains on it throughout the main floor. Of less importance on the main floor but very irritating: an overhead light in living area flickered as if it were a strobe.

Still more about lights: Light switches for stairways are normally found next to the stairways. After much trial and error, we finally located the switch, on the half wall outside the kitchen, maybe 10 feet away from the stairway. With the stairway illuminated, we were finally able to climb said stairs, only to find there is no switch at the top to turn the light off! You have to climb all the way back down to accomplish that, and then go back up—in the dark. (There is a switch at the top of the stairs, which I think controlled a single light at the top, but then I can’t be sure, because that switch wasn’t working. I cannot imagine any county or state electric code allowing this situation to exist, and I know that it is not in compliance with the NEC. (And speaking of that stairway: the HomeAway description does state, “the stairs in the cabin are a bit steep and might not be suitable for elderly or disabled visitors.” This is a textbook example of understatement. People with impaired movement simply cannot avail themselves of any bed in the cabin, upstairs or down. And the difficulty in climbing to the top floor is compounded by the lighting situation described above.

And speaking of building code requirements: we could find two smoke detectors in the cabin. One was not operating and the other was disconnected.

The linens on the beds and the pillows are from another generation and should be replaced. The decks really need to be washed and cleaned.

The coffee maker uses a cone shape filter instead of the standard basket type. The owners do provide some filters—there was three of them. We brought standard drip filters, but they did not work very well.

Upon entering the cabin, you are quickly brought down to a more unpleasant reality. The owner should provide more current pictures of the cabin interior, especially those stairs.

But we think some conscientious upkeep, suggesting a modicum of pride of ownership and respect for renters. Better kept cabins are available for a comparable price-we visited several.

We were very disappointed, and feel we must let other potential renters aware of the deficiencies.

Owner's Response: This person left a nasty message in our guest book (I mean really, who leaves a nasty message in a guestbook that everyone is going to pick up and read???) and is generally the type of renter we try to avoid at all costs. Unfortunately, you can't always tell what someone will be like when you rent to them. After reading their note in the guestbook, I reached out to him and sent him an email responding to his concerns, but he never responded back. So, I will leave it here instead. The interior has new floors, new carpets, and new hardwood. There are no stains. The cabin was built in the 1970s so is not subject to these "codes" that he speaks of. If you want to stay in a brand new cabin then this is not for you, but I think our description and photographs show that quite clearly. For what it's worth, this renter NEVER contacted us with any concerns or complaints, he simply wrote a nasty message in our guestbook and then left this review. I think if you look at the many other positive reviews for our property here on this website you will understand that this was the result of one person's opinion and does not truly reflect the cabin. We rent our cabin on another website as well and it has NO negative reviews and 74 positive ones.

Nice cabin, great views and location.

Nice cabin with great views. Good location, short drives to Brasstown Bald, Helen, and numerous trail heads.

Only complain is that the dryer made holes in every piece of clothing we put in it. :(

This place is a slice of heaven! It was quiet and relaxing. And the kids enjoyed having Wii, swings, and Netflix. Everything you needed was here. I could sit on any of the three floors and look at those mountain views all day. The second level had the best though. Thank you for a great stay at your cabin! I wish I could have stayed here the night before, but the power was out due to hurricane Irma. The owner called me once the power was back on and we were able to go there for a short stay...wish we didn't have to leave. I could used to living here!

Choestoe Hideaway is a charming cabin on a hillside overlooking Track Rock Valley, Brasstown Bald, and the tallest mountains in the state of Georgia. At 2100 feet of elevation, the cabin puts you up in the clouds where the breezes are fresh and cool, even in the hot Georgia summers.

When you go on vacation, you want to be close to everything, and that is exactly what you get when you stay in this cabin. A short drive will put you in Blairsville, Helen, Young Harris, or Hiawassee. The Hideaway is literally surrounded by mountains, meaning no matter what direction you head off in, you will be greeted by the beauty and grandeur of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Literally on the edge of the Chattahoochee National Forest, the cabin is nestled back in the woods while still affording spectacular views of Brasstown Bald and the tallest mountains in Georgia. Vogel State Park is only 4 miles away, and you can be hiking the Appalachian Trail within 10 minutes of the driveway.
