Overview

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

Our beautiful home is in a wooded area but just minutes from the beach. It is a custom built house and all the furnishings are stylish and new. The 5 bedrooms have a cottage feel and when the large living room windows are open, the breezes waft through with the smells of the lowcountry marsh to make you feel as if you are in 'The Prince of Tides'. We are located in the shaded part of the island with lots of privacy and palmetto trees. The large screened-in porch has a 6 person table, rocking chairs, and wonderful hammock all with a lagoon view.

Each day is a choice of riding bikes around the island, sea-shelling on the large quiet beach, swimming in the pool, tennis, volleyball, jogging. Maybe just take a book and lounge in the hammock for the whole afternoon. Or if you want to take a day to shop, Beaufort has little boutiques and beach shops, casual or upscale restaurants all with delicious FRESH seafood. The Hilton Head outlets in Blufton are 40-45 min. away. Hunting Island State Park is next door with its bird watching,big waves, lighthouse and native SC ecosystem.

Harbor Island is a gated island community with 24 hour security. If you want boardwalks, traffic and overpriced tourist attractions, then this is not the place to spend your vacation. However, if you want a relaxing, natural, away-from-it-all island then you have found the perfect place to share with your friends and family.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This house exceeded our expectations. Extremely clean and a beautiful new upgraded home. The golf cart made it easy to zip to the beach whenever we wanted and easy to take all of our "stuff". We definitely will be return guests to this lovely home.

Quiet Secluded Island and House

  • 5 of 5

We loved loved loved Harbor Island. We were very tired of beach traffic and fighting crowds on the beach. Harbor Island's beach is very natural and family friendly with large tidal pools at low tide. Great sea fishing as well, as my husband could walk far out into the water.

The house was perfect with a large screened-in porch with rockers and a hammock where we spent most of our time. Clean and tastfully decorated, it was in a shaded and private part of the island. We will definitely return here.

2017 Spring Review

RESORT

- easy to find location, sign in, security gate, and to get into property;

- good security on entrance and felt safe/secure during stay;

- it’s a hike to grocery store, shopping, liquor store, restaurant options,… so load up on way in;

- unfortunately prop amenities were dated (pool, tennis courts, clubhouse, gym,…) and given minimum maintenance effort;

- eg. no designated bike paths inside/outside property, gym equip older than most 2nd tier hotels, “putting green” was 3 flags on grass in community area, basketball goal was welded slab;

- community also dated and not as well kept as other resort properties we’ve visited, wasn't just b/c storm damage but several homes were run down and we were told hadn’t been lived in for years. resident said property owners older and didn’t want HOA maintenance charges for community areas and kids activities;

- seemed property caters to retired and snowbirds. Permanent residents (apparently most of community) not very “kid friendly” and seem to tolerate families visiting. Another family we met visiting for first time said they felt there was a distinct “get your kids out of my yard” attitude;

- example: residents reported our family to security 5 times in our 3 day visit b/c son was driving golf cart. Honor student with learner’s permit and I was in seat next to him each trip. Security validated our status and acknowledged we were following rules. One lady actually walked up to my mother at beach complaining someone drove cart on beach path - we hadn't driven cart that day b/c our cart was broken. Seriously?

- cell reception and wi/fi (at home) is spotty but hey you’re on vacation. Although might be issue if longer term stay as clubhouse doesn’t offer workspace nor wifi and there are no hotspots in area

BEACH

- was very private and quiet w/o typical noise, smoking, drinking, radios,… one can get w/ crowded resorts;

- beach beaten by hurricane w/ several homes on beach quarantined and construction in process but easy to find areas away from the hammering;

- however, not possible to get to beach from this house w/o a car/cart. Map and pics of beach in advert make it look walkable but definitely isn’t;

- also from street to beach is long narrow boardwalk in most places so consider this when carrying gear as grandparents or babies might be tough at this distance;

- unfortunately if goal is relaxing sound of waves reading a book, collecting shells, kids riding waves,… this probably not your spot. Entire beachfr

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that this renter did not care for our delightful little island. Harbor Island has been named in Southern Living as a hidden gem in beach communities and so many of our guests as well as my family, which includes 2 school age children , love the atmosphere on this quiet island. Harbor Island is perfect for taking a book to the beach and looking for wildlife that you can only find on a natural coastal beach that is uncommercialized. I believe our renter might have been be happier with the atmosphere of Myrtle Beach. Taking into consideration that this renter called the property manager for towels downstairs when there were stacks of them in the upstairs laundry room, makes me believe that he would not be content anywhere he stayed.

Great week at Harbor Island!

  • 5 of 5

Great house for large family. Everyone had their own space and we had plenty of family space as well. The house was clean and had everything we needed. Close to Hunting Island SP as well as Beaufort SC.

Family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Great house for large family. Everything was clean and well decorated. Loved seeing the owls off the back porch. Our only problem was we couldn't find the pack n' play that was listed on the web site. However, Harbor Rental was great and brought one over for us. We will definitely consider this cottage again! Thanks for a wonderful week!

Owner's Response: The housekeepers found the pack-n-play broken and tossed it out. There is a brand new one ready for use now! :)

Beautiful & Relaxing Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a wonderful vacation in this fabulous home! The pictures here do not do the home justice. Our family of four, my sister's family of four and our parents all stayed with plenty of room. The home was in tip-top shape, spotless for our arrival! The screened porch was an excellent place for morning quiet time and evening dinnenrs!

Amazing two weeks with plenty of room!!!

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from renting this house for just under two weeks. The house is perfect for a large family with plenty of room and a huge screened porch for hanging out in the evenings. The house is decorated nicely with plenty of linens. We loved the hammock!

We had everything we needed for a wonderful vacation. Plenty of parking for all of our vehicles. And the beach at harbor was perfect. I cried when I left. We will be back!!
