Keywords: Charming, Home located in the historic village of Pepin, WI, birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder from 'Little House on the Prairie'

Pepin Cottage has 4 distinct sleeping areas. Downstairs has a pair of twins and a full size along with the half bath. Washer and dryer are in their own rooms, if needed.

The back porch has a single bed overlooking the backyard. It is suitable for someone who may have difficulty navigating stairs. It comes with an adjacent full bath.

Upstairs houses a room with a pair of twin bunk beds with safety rails. The beds are very comfortable. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed. An iron with ironing board are located upstairs if needed.

We have a great spot for a 'girls weekend' outing or a multi-family vacation. Family reunions are really fun at Pepin Cottage.

We proudly display all four seasons. In the winter, our village and the surrounding villages have many monthly activities (check Pepin, Stockholm, Maiden Rock, Nelson, Wabasha, Lake City and Red Wing websites). Don't forget ice fishing. Spring shows all the new foliage, the new crops of leaves, corn and soybeans. Watch the ice flows break up. Summer weather is spectacular. Try our beach, the boat harbor next to the beach, the beach-front shops. Bring you appetite to try out the many restaurants. Bring a boat and we have a spot and the slip by the harbor. Fall colors in September and October are worth the trip. The sugar maple trees show almost every color of the rainbow. Take a stroll anytime around our village to see great sights and to meet great people.

Why Jim Morgenstern chose Pepin

We chose Pepin as a vacation destination because it is the most friendly town in Wisconsin, the scenery is awesome all the time; there is so much to see. The local merchants are visitor friendly. We have numerous great restaurants. We are close to the Twin Cities and all of southern towns in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Pepin and the surrounding communities have numerous events 12 months of the year, which have an appeal to artists, those who enjoy film, fishing, boating, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, eagle watching and much more. The 'Laura Days' activities in September offer great enjoyment for kids.

What makes this house unique

Our home is situated in a quiet neighborhood. If listening carefully, you can hear a train whistle in the far distance. The home is very uniquely designed. Everything is very 'custom,' from the ash inlaid cathedral ceiling to the stainless kitchen in custom hardwoods. The home is a true work of art. You can enjoy a easy 3 block walk to the boat harbor and all of the local shopping. Several eating establishments are within 2 blocks. AND, if you come in by boat, we have local transportation from the boat harbor to our home for you and your luggage.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We came down from Minneapolis to check out the Pizza Farm in Stockholm. It was amazing!! We had the best time and perfect weather. Thanks so much for the wonderful cottage. We plan to come back with our kids.

Very nice property

  • 4 of 5

The stay was nice but for the price it should have internet and some type of television service.

Owner's Response: Pepin is a small community that experiences frequent and very short power outages. Each time this happens, the internet and sattlelite box have to be manually reset. This causes huge frustrations for folks staying. So we have put together a library of movies for everyone to watch plus an invitation for everyone to bring some along. There is high speed internet at the local library (inside and outside) that is about two blocks away.

Pepin, Wisconsin was a great place to spend the Fourth of July weekend

  • 4 of 5

Clean, well decorated home with plenty of space. Home was clean, with a well appointed kitchen. All other necessities and other amenities were within walking distance of the house. Great restaurants, taverns and entertainment. We were also blessed with great weather.

The beach, restaurants, coffee shops, taverns were close by and we enjoyed the great view of Lake Pepin which was a few short blocks from the house.

A mile north was a nice winery with a very reasonable Wine Tasting offering. A few miles to the south was a nice place to drop the kayaks in the water for a 3 hour trip down the Chippewa River then the Mississippi and then back up the backwater and pull in about a quarter of a mile by road from our launch.

A minor issue was the missing grill as advertised but as soon as the owner was notified the grill appeared.

Additionally the advertisement did mention beachfront but as mentioned above the beach was about 3 blocks from the house. The harbor did have a nice public beach that appeared well taken care of.

Owner's Response: Our rental home is located in the middle of everything: (1) exactly 1 mile from Villa Bellezza, (2) 3 blocks from the boat harbor and beach, (3) 1-3 blocks from shopping, restaurants and bars, (4) 3 blocks from music venues, and (5) 5 miles from the round barn wedding venue. At night renters have quiet for sleep. A great venue for fishing and hunting trips, family reunions, and "girls" weekend getaways. We have space for boats and several cars. There is much literature for local sights in the dining room. Come often for your "home away from home."

Cute and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights and had a wonderful time. The house is walkable to the waterfront, shops, and restaurants, and best of all for our daughters - down the block from the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum!

Plenty of beds, comfy and quiet house. Great kitchen had everything we needed! Thank you Jim!

Celebrating 81st and 90th Birthdays in Pepin

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, very clean and snuggly home. We were in Pepin celebrating my mom's 81st and my aunt's 90th birthdays, both of whom are Pepin natives. We had a great party at the Nelson Stone Barn! Our family enjoyed the gorgeous, well-stocked kitchen, fabulous grill, and enormous open spaces. Very comfortable couches to spread out and visit. Wonderful stay! Thanks so much for making this weekend extra special, Jim. Our families will be back :)

Owner's Response: Pepin WI is directly in the center of the Lake Pepin shoreline and there are many communities. From the village, everyone can take day trips and only have to drive a few miles. WINTER is Pepin has excellent ICE FISHING and over 150 miles of SNOWMOBILE trails, many of them clearly marked. The house is very warm. Think Pepin for a last minute getaway, a family reunion, or a "girls' weekend."

Summer Vacation Delight

  • 4 of 5

Great Lake Pepin getaway! Time was split between girlfriends and family time with fantastic activities and fun to please both. Sailing, Stockholm art fair, winery tours, pizza farm, hiking, blueberry picking, Lark toys and swimming. An hour and half from St. Paul. Can't wait to go back! Thanks Jim!

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed our little village of Pepin and "took in" so many of the local activities and places to visit. Pepin Cottage is in the middle of so many communities that have so much going on. Our dining room bay window is full of literature that tells what is happening in our area. For those who are with family or a girls weekend out, we offer a quiet spot for enjoyment. Even during the cold winter months, Pepin Cottage is a warm and welcoming place to stay.
