Our wonderful cottage sits on the North Shore of White Lake just north of Muskegon Michigan. This wonderful lake is actually part of the White River that flows out to Lake Michigan thru a large Channel. History abounds in the White Lake area. Did you know that much of the wood used to build Chicago after the great fire came from the White Lake area? Originally built in 1935 and then extensively remodeled in the mid 90's. Old and New!
We purchased our Cottage several years ago and while we do not get up there as often as we should, this leaves an opportunity to share our home with select renters. We are on a protected bay as the winds from Lake Michigan are normally from the Northwest so calm waters are the norm. Nap in the Hammock, play a fast game of Badminton, or just lounge around on the deck. We also have two Kayaks and a paddleboat that may be used.
Old Channel Golf Club is less than 3 miles away and has 27 holes of golf available. The cottage is comfortably furnished and we ask that renters treat this as their own home and leave it like they found it upon departure.

This house was perfect for our group- plenty of space, comfy beds, well stocked, and tons of activities! The house has wonderful views of the lake from inside, and a nice big deck off the back. I can not express how much the kids loved the big rope swing !!! There is a nice fire pit right down by the water, great for camp fires and s'mores! White Lake is clean, warm enough for the kids to swim, and accommodates boaters/fishermen/and any water sport. Montague & Whitehall are just a short drive away where you can find Montague Foods(a very nice grocery store), Pitkins (this shop has everything, great for kids & souvenirs), and many restaurants(Harbor View Grill was a favorite). Bill the owner was great to work with, and very responsive to any questions. Everyone had a blast, the week went by much too fast, and we are all talking about when we can return!!!
Nothing like six inches of snow for Thanksgiving. But what a great place for a family retreat, and the owner, Bill Tait, was very responsive to making sure that we could all get into the property by having it plowed out. As other reviewers have said, the house is spacious, comfortable and well-stocked with the basics for an enjoyable stay. A wonderful view of White Lake with a beautiful sunrise greeting you in the mornings. There were seven of us adults and three small children, and we all had a great time. Cannot recommend this place too highly.
We arrived, 5 women and 8 children ranging in age from 18years to 10mos, after some consternation. We had a hard time finding the house - it was hidden like the treasure it is thru a resort parking lot, past a yellow house and on a tiny rock road next to a garage - but when we came around the edge of that garage all our hopes were fulfilled! Clean, well stocked with dishes and towels and sheets and condiments and cleaning supplies - we didn't have to run back to the store every five minutes - a godsend with all the rugrats in the house. All beds comfortable, rooms spacious, did I mention clean?? House was filled with light. Hammock swing and hammock - a huge hit with all - young and adult - baby's favorite place to nap. BBQ pits, chairs and table, fire pit, kayaks, paddle boat, games - we had everything at our fingertips at this lovely VRBO. The owners could not have been nicer. Decor very tasteful. Sand beach and gorgeous views. Older kids loved kayaking on White Lake. To dos nearby - DUCK LAKE STATE PARK - a MUST - on the channel for kids and on Lake Michigan for all, PEKADILLS - for lunch and ice cream and their gardens, the shops of Montague and White Hall especially the BOOK NOOK for sangria, PAGES for gem stone jewelry, the pool store on Colby down from PITKINS - had great Lake Michigan shirts and beach chairs and baby/adult floats, and of course PITKINS-REXALL for gifts galore. Im a shopper and LOVED these shops. Also rentals by the DOGS N SUDS had kayaks and bikes. Great bike trail - long and shady. Montague Foods is super handy. The Old Channel Inn for sunset suppers and Harbor View Grill had a great menu. Go to LEWIS FARMS petting zoo etc for the little ones, and Silver Lake for DUNE RIDES. Go south to MUSKEGON AND GRAND HAVEN activities, and just north for the dunes etc. DON'T FORGET to pick blueberries!! at PALMERS we find great berries.
I just cannot say enough nice things about a Michigan lake house vacation in Montague/Whitehall - and this VRBO made everything so perfect - a wonderful place to call home away from home.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! for sharing your dream vacation home with us!!!
This is an amazing rental property! The house was very clean, spacious and has its' own private beach and dock right on White Lake.
We stayed with our children and swam in the lake everyday. :) The lake itself was very clean and had amazing fishing....my husband caught a 20 inch bass right off the dock! The owners allowed us to use their paddle boat, lake toys and various yard games...we had plenty to do.
The beach has a wonderful fire pit that was great for having a campfire and smores right on the beach.
The owner, Bill Tait, was wonderful to work with! He was very responsive and worked hard to make sure everything was perfect for our stay!
We have been renting in this area for the last 3 years and this was definitely our favorite place to stay!!! We can't wait to go back. :)
We had a fantastic vacation in this spacious cottage-plenty of room for the entire family to spread out and relax. Lots of local amenities to keep us busy-golf within 3 miles, Lake Michigan beach within one, Michigan's Adventure amusement and water park within 10 miles. The beach and waterfront are ideal for kids, as we could sit on the back porch and keep our eye on things. Our kids loved the kayaks. The swing was a huge hit as well. We will definitely be back and look forward to another week on White Lake.
My family and I truly had a wonderful time at your home. The place was well cared for and very clean. The Tait's provided us with everything we needed and were very helpful answering any questions prior to our stay. The beach was perfect for the whole family and we enjoyed many nights by the fire. We hope to come back in the future and would recommend this home to anyone. Thanks again!
