We moved up from Long island in 1992 have raised our children here at Hickory Lane. It is a historic home that has history dating back to the 1700's! It has always been full of excitement and adventure. The river has provided us with kayaking, tubing, and other great water fun. It has also provided us a place to rest!
The River has its own rhythmic energy that renews and refreshes on a daily basis. Our children are grown and scattered throughout the USA, and still feel the draw of the river's welcome. I believe that this is what brought us here in the first place! Now we have the honor of watching our grandchildren enjoy all that it has to offer.
The Enchanted Easel, an artisan workshop with spirit, is now located in our home. You can take a painting class, pottery making, or other workshop while you are here. Many opportunities to nourish your inner artist!
We have also hosted exceptional parties including our daughter and son-in-law's wedding! Each year we hold The Carlstrom Jamboree in which family members come for a weekend of camping and fun.
The gazebo has become our favorite spot to entertain or just wind-down from our busy day. We feel it an honor to share our place in the country with others. We look forward to meeting and talking with new people along their travels.
Gina and Tom kaufmann purchased this apartment in 1992
Tom and I fell in love with this old house in 1978 and only dreamed to one day own it. The opportunity arose and we jumped on it! It took many years to renovate, (it was built in 1794, this is NOT A TYPO!). and at last our dream came true. The apartment in which you will stay, was home of my mother in her final years. This home is full of love, happiness and history that we will be honored to share!
You will be surrounded by tranquility and grace. The river revives and exhilarates you. Although the apartment is adjacent to our home, you have your own entrance and deck. Don't worry, you are provided with the privacy you seek. The gazebo is also wired for internet so you can actually work from the edge of the Delaware River if need be, be we recommend you just relax and take in the beauty of all that surrounds you here at Hickory Lane.
My significant other and I wanted to go away for the weekend last minute and contacted the homeowner the day before checking in but she made everything so easy and convenient for us. We were able to go to the house and pay once we got there the next day. Gina was so helpful in telling us about all the local places to visit as well as other fun things to do nearby. It was great fishing, hiking, and just relaxing right by the river. It's a small town but there was still so much to do. I will definitely come back to this place whenever I have the time to. This place is great for family or friends!
We had an awesome whole week in this house.
It was my dream to stay in place like this, away from NY. Beautiful, calm, refreshing.
River is amazing and still, we made couple of rides by catamaran with our 20 month daughter and she really liked it.
It’s a great place for the families to relax. Our children were out whole days long, just playing on the personal playground, walking and running on the grass, playing with animals. We met dog, cats, and horses there. We saw many deers, chipmunk, squirrels. There is amazing nature!!! Sweet little town in walking time from there with farmer’s market on Sunday, where we bought yummy ice-cream and cookies.
And I should say special world about owners… They are great persons. It was perfect to have them close, to have a little chat about small things, about their place and life in general, very authentic.
We already talked about coming back in Fall, and I hope we will!
My husband, our 2 children, and I stayed here and had a fabulous time. The cottage/apartment was so nicely decorated and CLEAN! The owners provided some snacks, coffee, tea, etc. and the refrigerator had condiments and what-nots. The property was breathtaking. We took the kids swimming in the river and watched an eagle flying overhead. One of our highlights was a suggestion by the owners to hike up Jensen's Ledges. I highly recommend this! Callicoon is a nice little town with a little bit of everything. We will definitely go back.
This is a beautiful waterfront location. The river is very scenic and it is excellent for recreation. The property is well cared for. The hosts were very nice. The rental unit is attatched to their home, but feels private. The interesting village of Callicoon, is only minutes from the apartment, and offers a variety of dinning choices, and amenities. We love the location, are already thinking about our next visit.
Bethel Woods Center for Performing Arts is just 20 minutes away. Forestburg Playhouse has the most amazing plays like Guys and Dolls, Driving Miss Daisy, and The Music Man to name a few. They also offer a children's theater. These shows are performed in an old renovated barn. Cabaret Evenings are amazing and the food is scrumptiously created by Jill, from Jill's Kitchen.
While in Callicoon you must take in a movie. We have the only movie theater in the county! This beautifully appointed Art Deco gem sits just 2 miles from Hickory Lane Farmhouse.
If you enjoy the outdoors, Jensen's Ledges, a great hiking trail over looking the Delaware River Valley, a great way to get reacquainted with nature.

Guide fishing tours are available through Sweetwater Guides. It seems that often, there boats are right outside our home in our river's eddy catching walleyes, bass, shad, and other aquatic dwellers.
There are many places in which you could rent a kayak, raft , tube or canoe. Soaring Eagle Campground is just north of Callicoon, in Long Eddy,NY. You can rent a watercraft from there and float down to Hickory Lane! Lander's also offers River Trips. They have many locations along the river.
