Kendall Farm Cottages in Downeast, Maine, a coastal country sanctuary offering the loveliest lakeside rentals perfect for a relaxing and rejuvenating eco-adventure, romantic or family vacation on beautiful Boyden Lake minutes from the ocean. Our cottage built in the 1930s has distinctive character. Wildflower Cottage rests atop a hill with westerly views of Boyden Lake and to the east across fields of wildflowers and our farm. One room has a double bed, loft with two twin beds, and a third single bed on the wrap around porch (linen and bedding included). More information about our other cottage may be found on our website listed below.

Kendall Farm has been in our family for five generations. We have a large beautiful organic vegetable and flower garden, raspberry and wild Maine blueberry patches and an apple orchard available for visitors in season. The 200-year old cape homestead and one of the largest original barns in Washington county are important structures on our farm. The Bugbees and Goldings built cemeteries on the property that date back to the early 1800s and are a treat for individuals interested in genealogy. We are honoring this legacy by sharing our cottages and home with you in a way that preserves this beautiful environment and our family history.

Our location offers easy day trips to Cobscook State Park, Moosehorn National Wildlife Reserve, St. Andrews-by-the-Sea and Campobello, Canada, Eastport, Lubec and Sipayik, Passamaquoddy Indian reservation. We are also centrally located to three golf courses and a rich tour of local fine artisans and an abundance of other natural wonders of the area including the highest tides in the world and the Old Sow, the largest whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere.

Or you can simply swim in the lake, swing in a hammock, read a book and listen to the loons and watch for soaring bald eagles while you relax, refresh and rejoice.

About The Owner

Georgiana Kendall, is a 5th generation Kendall at Kendall Farm living in her family’s 200-year old homestead with her friendly cat Seamus and usually has a few other critters for the summer. She graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick in 1990 and a M.S. in Adult Education from the University of Southern Maine in Portland, Maine in 1997. Following graduate school she joined the Peace Corps and served the Tsonga people of South Africa as a school and community resource volunteer. She has resided on her family's farmstead for over a decade after many years of travel. She now stays close to home to honor the farm, land, lake, friends and family.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1800

Why The Owner chose Down East

As the 5th generation Kendall on Kendall Farm, Perry is my home. I spent summers as a child with my parents, family and friends frolicking in the riley waters of Boyden Lake. I enjoyed swimming, frogging, fishing, snorkeling, jumping off the raft, swinging in our hammock, and running up the hill to help my grandmother weed and pick vegetables out of her garden followed by Gram's delicious homemade doughnuts. We spent evenings playing Scrabble and card games. We spent quality time together just enjoying each other as I hope our guests will do with their family and friends.

What makes this cottage unique

We call Perry, Perrydise and it feels like it every time I drive down the maple lined driveway. I look out across the lake and watch the sun transform the sky with bold colors of pink, orange, yellow, and purple and I know I really am in a place of peace and love and beauty. My favorite place on earth is here at Kendall Farm after so many years traveling the world. My family and I enjoy hosting people who appreciate what we are doing to preserve the history of our land and ancestors while treading lightly on our environment, the lake and the land.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Thank you for this wonderful camp, fortunate to just relax in such beautiful surroundings for rest in the hammock and in general, a place to regenerate and renew. Maybe the next residents can finish this puzzle! We especially enjoyed the wind off the lake and the call of the loons."

A family tradition continues

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have been coming to Kendall Farm since the mid 1980's when Georgie's Gram Leona lived on the farm. We fell in love with the lake, the cottage, the loons and Eagles. We spent hours playing board games, swimming and boating. My son learned to sail on the lake and later learned to drive on Kendall Lane! Now in our 70's my husband and I returned in August after many years . Georgie continues to host guests in the two classic cottages! Wildflower was ready and filled with fresh farm flowers on our arrival. Georgie has a wealth of knowledge about the area and will help you plan day trips if you can tear yourself away from the lake. When you enter the farm grounds, see the lake and breathe the pine and flower scented air you will unwind, slow down and relax and start planning for your next visit.

Peaceful Lakeside Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a lakeside cottage that was also accessible to the ocean in Downeast Maine. Watercress Cottage offered that in a beautiful, peaceful setting on Boyden Lake. We were welcomed on arrival by our friendly host, Georgie, and her two pet ducks, Garlic and Dill. In our rustic cottage, there were colorful bouquets of flowers, a jar of homemade jam, and a bottle of Georgie's concord grape wine awaiting us. The cottage was clean and comfortable and practically on the water. During the day we had access to a canoe, a quiet dock to sit and read at our leisure, and warm, clear lake water to swim in. At night, we roasted marshmallows while listening to the loons and gazing at the stars. There are many daytime destinations within an hours drive of the cottage for sightseeing, hiking, dining, and even golfing at the eastern most golf course in the US in Calais. We travelled into Canada a few times as well, and especially enjoyed our trips to Campobello and St. Andrews. We will definitely be back! This is an ideal place to enjoy the peace of the lake, with the opportunity to explore and enjoy the beauty of Downeast Maine.

The best place to unwind

  • 5 of 5

This is real Maine. No fancy furniture, no LL Bean, no lace-edged towels or shiny faucets. Just a beautiful rustic cottage outfitted simply with all you need to enjoy the pleasures of Down East -- the food, the serenity of Boyden Lake, the bold coast hiking, the lobster and all the rest. The proprietess is generous with her garden, her spice rack and her vast appreciation and knowledge of the area. A wonderful spot for a summer vacation. Don't forget a daily dose of the hammock!

Pure and Simple Bliss

  • 5 of 5

We chose to spend our Honeymoon at Boyden Lake on Kendall Farm in Perry, Maine.

Looking for a quiet getaway with privacy and beautiful surroundings we were drawn in by the photo of Wildflower Cottage. We actually booked our stay at Watercress Cottage because Watercress was not available....we arrived in the pitch black of night and were greeted by twinkling lightening bugs, crooning loons and an insatiable curiosity of what daylight would bring. When we awoke, our hearts were smiling. The beauty of the day brought us a crystal clear glistening lake, steps from our cottage, two whimsical ducks (Garlic and Dill) greeting us with a morning "hello" and so much to explore on and off the property. Our cottage offered charm and comfort, our deck and dock offered us a meditative sense of joy to be so closely intertwined with the beauty of nature.

Our lovely host, Georgie, offered us a home away from home that we could barely bring ourselves to leave at the end of the week. We drove back to Connecticut and chatted the entire way about how truly blissful the week was. We can honestly say, this was the best week of our lives. (and it wasn't just the honeymoon talking!)

We will be back over and over again, leaving may only get harder and harder :)

We'll be back!

How can you feel at home when you’re over 700 miles from home? Listing the countless touches to which Georgie oversaw could not possibly capture the totality of the experience. Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple or with a small group, there is a place for you at the cottage. Most importantly, there is room to ponder, to rest and to figure out what you would like to do next. Once you’re at Watercress, there isn’t a need to leave. However, if you must, it’s also an excellent home base from which to discover local food, beverage and crafts. There are countless Down East delights within an hour drive, not to mention various historic points. One of the things that stood out the most for me was Georgie’s thoughtful assessment of our interests with careful tailoring and detailing of options for our stay. Just know that you’re in the best of hands when staying with her.

So hard to leave!

  • 5 of 5

I've just returned from my third stay at Kendall Farm Cottages and second at the Watercress Cottage. Too many years have gone by in between visits so I greatly look forward to trips Downeast to relax and reconnect what's important. Upon arrival Georgie greeted us, this time with quirky ducks Garlic and Dill in tow!

We settled in to the cottage, made cozy and ready for us. After a long drive the comfortable beds and breezes off of Boyden Lake helped us to feel we were far away from it all. At night the loons on the lake called to one another, and I thought, "what a gift, to ask 'hey, did you hear the loons last night?' rather than, "did you see that last episode of x.'"

Our week was filled with canoeing, hiking local trails, visiting Campabello for Tea with Elanor and many other inspirational moments. Georgie made sure we tasted local delicacies, including dips and dressings made from herbs grown right on the farm - and of course plenty of crab, lobster, chowders and pies all as fresh as can be.

Clearly, there are lots of things to love about a stay at Kendall Farm Cottages, but together they make for an amazing experience that serves as getaway, restoration, local adventure and wonderful hospitality. I can't recommend visiting enough, The only problem is that it is so very hard to leave. We're already planning our next trip!

Our area offers some of the best whale watching trips on the east coast of the USA. We also have lots of wildlife to see including seals, loons, porcupines, moose, deer, foxes, and black bears. We also have terrific fishing for salmon, white perch, brook trout and large and small mouth bass in our lake plus deep sea fishing just 10 minutes from your cottage.

The area is rich with wonderful lighthouses and you can spend a lifetime hiking the stunning trails in our area or canoeing the waterways.

There are two letterboxes on-site at Kendall Farm and several at area parks and tree farms, blueberry, raspberry, and apple picking. There are ferries to and from Canada, a brand new Biological Research Station and touch tank in St. Andrews, NB, Canada, environmental and outdoor community learning center that offer fun workshops for adults and children, gourmet cooking classes 5 minutes away and just 5 miles away the Sipayik Passamaquoddy Indian reservation. We also have local and international 18-hole golf courses and great guides for a kayaking adventure on one of our famous rivers like the Dennys River, a guided paddle on a lake or an adventure on the bay.

Just five minutes from your cottage is a great shop to purchase local foods, meats, cheeses, wines, and gifts to take back home with you. The Red Sleigh ... Gallery, Gifts & a Gourmet Farmers’ Market under one roof! Conveniently located on Coastal Route 1 between Calais and Eastport, this historic building is now home to nearly 100 artists, artisans, jewelers, farmers, food producers and bakers--all from wonderful Washington County. The Red Sleigh (whose 200 year-old building was formerly a post office, a general store, and antique shop) is proud to be a green business. We recycle bags, jewelry boxes, and packing materials. We reuse antiques, jars, wooden boxes and other materials for our displays, compost, and use a composting toilet. Monthly Open House celebrations promote our artists and food producers and showcase many of the area’s talented musicians. We also offer a selection of wines, regularly scheduled wine tastings, free WiFi, ticket sales for Eastport Art Center performances and a local events board to all of the cool events in the area.
