Smelled like our fishing camp

  • 2 of 5

We have stayed at Perdido Towers several times - always 5 stars. However, when we got off the elevator, the smell hit us. As we opened the door to the condo, it screamed of rotten fish. It was definitely coming from the fridge. We arrived at 6 pm (a late check in) and so we called the after hours number for perdido reality. They said there were no other rooms available for us to move to, but someone would come "fix it" in the morning. My husband went to publix and bought Lysol and airfreshener. He thoroughly wiped down the whole inside/outside of the fridge and freezer and the countertops. The next morning a housekeeper and manager from perdido reality came and again thoroughly cleaned the fridge/freezer and floors with "enzyme cleaner". The smell seemed better, but was back within a few hours. While cleaning, the housekeeper said multiple times she thought the smell was coming from the neighboring condo. But then she accidentally admitted to being aware of the smelly fridge when she cleaned it before we arrive. It didn't add up. I wonder how long this fridge has been rank and how many other guests have had to deal with this before us. I would not stay in this unit until they replace the fridge. (When we got back home, the fresh fruit We brought back from the trip tasted fishy - we threw it all out). The condo was otherwise very clean, and well maintained. The a staff and residents/guests were wonderful.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that your rental with us was very clean and well maintained and that you were happy with our staff. On occasion, we have guests who express dissatisfaction with some aspect of their vacation experience. Our priority is guest enjoyment so we were quick to respond when you reported a fish odor in the refrigerator. We'd like to share comments from our housekeeping inspector who came to your unit. When he arrived, he immediately detected a "cooked, greasy fish odor" in the enclosed elevator lobby and in the entrance to your condo and kitchen. He had our housekeeper reclean the refrigerator and treat with an enzyme product. They also pulled out the refrigerator and cleaned behind it. The inspector's impression was that the odor originated from cooking in the adjacent unit which shares the enclosed hallway. Since the lobby is enclosed, odors can linger. Therefore, they also treated the elevator lobby, floors and rugs. Our inspector reported that he passed you in the walkway the next day and asked if everything was alright. According to him, you replied "everything is great." He also asked you to call if the odor returned but we did not hear from you. We have had no other complaints from guests prior to or following your stay. Our inspector reinspected the refrigerator following receipt of this review just to make sure.

Family vacation with kids and grandkids

  • 5 of 5

We took our kids to Destin when they were young & wanted something closer and less crowded. The area was perfect, same white sand, clean beaches but very private and not crowded. We could leave our beach chairs and shade pavillion on the beach the entire time and no one bothered it. The location is about 10 minutes from restaurants and businesses and not as congested. The kids, ages 1-15, had a great time even with a few rainy days. This was one of several condos we rented at Perdido Towers and the most upscale furniture, decor and TV's but still family friendly. The view from the balcony was great. The kitchen was well stocked and even had a crock pot! The townhouse layout is great for families. The Towers layout is great with each elevator servicing only 2 units on each floor. We would definitely return here.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay so much. We agree, Perdido Key is not as crowded as other locations, but yet is close enough to everything so that local amenities can be enjoyed. Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your experience and for your kind words, which are much appreciated.

Very nice, clean unit. We had a blast staying there. The kids really enjoyed the unit and the pool. The weather didn't cooperate all the time but that didn't stop my kids from keeping a smile on there faces, that to me is the measure of a successful vacation. You know how after you get home from vacation, you cant wait to sleep in your own bed. Well, this time i wish i could have loaded the bed that is in the condo and brought it home with me, very , very comfortable. My hats off to the owners for a very nice place. Can't wait to come back.

Restful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Myra & Kenneth were very accommodating when it was discovered that the condo was double booked. They placed us in another condo overnight and moved us into their condo as early as possible. Their condo was very cleaned and well maintained. It felt like home away from home. Thanks for sharing your place with us.
