Stay at La Fourche (circa 1790) a fabulously restored, historically significant, estate property located in the heart of Keswick hunt country just minutes to Charlottesville. Walking distance to Keswick Hall, the prestigious resort hotel, and close to Clifton Inn as well. The perfect setting for large family gatherings, wedding-related events, touring Virginia historic sites and vineyards, and attending UVA graduation, class reunions and football weekends.
The oldest part of the property is the Tavern, originally called Traveler's Grove in 1790, and is now part of the main house. During the 19th century, La Fourche was the hub of this side of Albemarle County where visitors came to stay at the inn and change out their horses and locals came to drink at the tavern, vote and use the post office. The main house was constructed just after the Civil war and was originally an Italianate-style clapboard 3 over 3 house. Early in the 20th century, new owners added the third floor, dormers, stucco facade and Greek revival styling complete with two-story fluted columns.
When you arrive and stay at La Fourche, you will feel transported to another era yet with all the comfortable, modern conveniences that you could desire from big, flat screen, HD TV's and a Bose stereo for your iPod to a Cuisinart and Dualit toaster in the kitchen and 2-person soaking tub in the master bath. Large, tastefully decorated bedrooms in the Main House--on the second floor: 1 king in master plus twin daybed, 2 twins and double in the Red Guest Room, 1 queen in the Blue & Gold Guest Room, 2 twins in the Children's 'Train' bedroom; on the third floor: 1 queen in the Grey Guest Room and 1 queen in the Black & Gold Guest Room. Five full bathrooms plus two powders rooms. Fully functioning office area that seats 4 comfortably features WIFI and amazing westward views of Monticello.
Tavern Cottage apartment has a separate entrance with galley kitchen, downstairs bedroom with 2 twin beds, full bath upstairs and upstairs bedroom with 1 queen and 1 twin bed.
Smokehouse Cottage, just steps away from the Main House, features one bedroom with queen bed, a galley kitchen and living room with twin daybed and twin trundle. Washer-dryer. Private patio.

Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We purchased this historic home in 2003 and have painstakingly restored it to its former glory. The original heart pine floors, six fireplaces and woodwork represent the finest of original Virginia craftsmanship. La Fourche, French for fork in the road, because the property was at the crossroads of Albemarle County during the 19th century--one way leading to Richmond and the other way leading to Washington DC.
Why the Owner Chose Royal Acres, VA, USA:
As graduates of the University of Virginia and the Darden School, my husband and I cherish coming back to Charlottesville. The countryside is spectacular, and the northwest vista from the house incorporates the mountain view where Monticello sits, the home of Thomas Jefferson. It's the perfect blend of country while being just 7 miles from the University grounds.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
Perfect for family reunions and housing wedding guests. Large home with cottages offers lots of privacy, yet generous rooms for entertaining.
